I love that that she did not try to train it out of him to do what made him feel safe. Just gave him a healthy outlet to do it. Sometimes we try to overmanage our dogs behavior rather than letting them just be a dog and find solutions that work for both the human and the dog
@Eventide215
@Eventide215 2 года назад
Yeah it's similar to how you'd manage anxiety in a human. You learn what the coping mechanisms are that they naturally have then focus more on the positives than the negatives. Learning how to shift their coping mechanisms into something more positive and healthy. You don't shame them for their coping mechanism no matter how weird it may be to you.

YES I love this snippet especially!! You took away the bad side but left him able to do his thing so he can deal with his stress; great work Victoria!!! This poor pup needs more help than most of your clients. I hope he's had some vet attention too.

It would be very easy to stop George doing these things...BUT....do it incorrectly and you simply create a new and probably worse habit! The point is to comfort George..improve his quality of life..and still get things in control

I don't usually support crating or confining animals, but in this case I would definitely have crated him until the problem was able to be resolved. He was getting into some pretty dangerous stuff.
@3l3n4Wh4t

Many dogs with separation anxiety also have a confinement phobia. You need to be really careful with crating dogs with SA.
@littlekitsune1

@@flyezilla Yeah, that's why I said I'm not really for crating. I just meant as a last ditch move for his safety.
@Eventide215
@Eventide215 2 года назад
Saying you don't support something then say you would definitely do it is hilariously contradicting. Crating/confining animals only causes *more* problems regardless of anything else. Yes he was getting into dangerous things, and that's easily solved. Crating him though would have created some insane phobias and make the anxiety even worse. Crating in general also destroys your bond with the animal.

My dream is 2 rescue the oldest dogs no 1 wants from kennels , give them a home in their last year's Got assessed and refused, b coz I live in a flat with no out door space. So I bought a puppy on gum tree, think it woz a puppy ring coz woz not with her mum. She is hippo sensitive, and hippo vigilant of bangs and hands on her head. She's better now with reassurance n love. So I guess I rescued a pup. A pup should not have had as many problems as she did. Ps. I'm out every day on park with her so didn't miss a garden.

@@christophermc2 i agree totaly, ive been a dog behaviourist for 10+ years an befor that training horses. The fundamentals of canine behaviour start with solid foundations of leadership from the getgo....they are not fur babies that need or want coddling. What you do is tell your dog NO AND STAY . ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE
@valkyriedarquese
@valkyriedarquese 2 года назад
anxiety is more complex than just no and stay. This dog needed medication
@byuftbl
@byuftbl 2 года назад
That also isn’t SCIENCE based. That doesn’t solve anything and it’s not productive. More discipline isn’t always or even usually the answer. We make our dogs just sit and stay way too often forgetting that they aren’t robots that have to perform our every whim perfectly. That makes for a miserable dog.
@didialtair4722
@didialtair4722 2 года назад
@@byuftbl i think that what emma clowes want to say is that you can teach this dog to NO take things in the kitchen because there are a diference betwen more discipline and no discipline(in this case ).dogs are not robot you are totaly right and too much discipline or rules are not the solution you are right too,but some limits or rules are for his safety and hapiness .as u can see in the video ,for this dog,no rules with no obedience make him very very anxious ..it s logical if he can do and take wathever he want when he want to take when the human are in the house i will do it more when there are out...but the trainers had to adapt to the owner so in this case vistoria did very well.sorry my english is not very good...
@khirsah666
@khirsah666 2 года назад
@@didialtair4722 This is not a bad behavior we're talking about tho. This is serious psychological issue that dog is experiencing. It's canine equivalent of panic attacks. You can't solve it by saying sit, stay, no whatever. Dog will hurt themselves in that state of mind. They will bleed but still keep dong what hurts them like chewing. Some bite themselves. This is a psychological issue that you can't fix with a command.
@didialtair4722
@didialtair4722 2 года назад
@@khirsah666who s talking about a sit or a down command but a leave it or a " no" or out command...I m sorry but this psychological issue is the effect of the no rules home....and yes you can fix the fact that the dog can take something dangerous in the kitchen with a command . so because the dog need to chew he can take what he want when he want ,sorry in a house there are safety rules for everybody...in some case it s life saving🙏🏽.
