Kevin Cela Yes. Just start for 10 minutes every day, and you'll soon be doing some great stuff. Use the clicker reward method and you'll both enjoy it. Take a look for videos on clicker training to get the know how. I've trained dogs a lot older so don't worry.
They always say this dog is aggressive and doesn't like other dogs. My akc Akita is the exact opposite. No aggression period. Plays with all animals that are friendly. But i love her, and she is very alert, not a lot of grooming but anywhere they lay when shedding will be covered in hair. Can adapt to any environment size as long as they are stimulated twice a day for an hour.
The Akita, by nature and breeding, is a loyal, protective, and aggressive dog. It has been bred to be aggressive towards other animals, and protective of it's immediate family. Now of course, all Akita's are not like this, each dog has it's own persona. But overall, they usually fit the mold the breed was made for.
@@ifuckedyourdad8984 I think it's more like denial because the Akitas that were given to the Americans were, to put it simply, mutts. At the time, the breed was nearly extinct and the remaining Akita had been mixed with other breeds, those are the ones who were sent to America. The Japanese Akita Inu that we see nowadays is the product of a rigurous and strict breeding program designed by a Japanese association to return the breed to its original characteristics and appearance, yet the American Kennel Club won't recognise them as different breeds because it would be like admitting that the American line is not the real thing.
I had an akita. Her name was Mocha and she was adopted as a puppy a few years before I was born. She died when I was 20. It's still really hard for me to accept it. In my opinion she was the best dog ever, but I will say, from experience, Dogs101 are almost 100% correct about owning an akita. She was very territorial and very independent. She liked to play and be petted but didn't like to cuddle. She liked her space and was a tough, strong sturdy dog who didn't trust many people out side of her family. So if you want this dog, that's great! You'll have a wonderful experience, but do keep in mind I promise you, if you don't train it right, that dog could become very aggressive during unfamiliar situations.
thing is they are too close to actually say they are too diffrent. but I dont agree with much of what they say. I own an akita and most of this shit is bullshit.
people do have Inu Akitas , not in Japan. Just got to find the ones that are good. I had a few in california, yet i decided to go with an american akita, shes 6 now 95 pounds of pure beauty. And hopefully after this week of breeding we get puppies!.
My parents had an Akita Shepherd mix for years named Oso. He was VERY loveable, and not agressive at all. He was more like a giant lap dog. He did like to run and play though. He just recently died of old age. He was about 15 or so. We loved him very much. RIP Oso.
I've been watching this show for years already, so that's a favor to them right? So why can't they at least delete this episode and make a new one that mentions Japanese Akitas and American Akitas? AND HACHIKO!?
Yeah my aunties dog growing up was my favorite dog ever, he was calm but also aloof and would let you know if he didn't want you around lol. And she had this other little dog that would shake a toy in his face and he tore the toys head off lol.
Gentle and calm rings bells for me - my own akita was registered as a therapy dog. We visited a local hospice where staff, patients and visitors were just besotted with him. He had an uncanny ability to recognize people that didn't want to say hi and would just walk past. He was particularly good with children and, in turn, they seemed to instinctively realise that this 30 inch, 100 pound furball was no threat. He got me through some tough times and is still sorely missed.
my akita, almost a year now he is just a sweet heart. he never barks at other dog or attack them. he loves people and let anyone pat him. his favorite thing in the world is to play with other dogs at the park. he is a little territorial but never aggressive I was a little worried before we brought him into our family because of this video, but I guess some akita are naturally friendly like my dog, so not all of them are aggressive and dangerous only thing, they are big dogs and other dog owners think my akita is attacking their dog when he just wants to say hi
+Shelly Kim That is the same with my Akita and she is the only 12 weeks old. Never barks, just minds her own business and licks people when she see's them
We have a 1yo Akita Ken and she is scared of everything. No signs of aggression whatsoever. Loves to play with other dogs but she introduces her self kinda wildly which makes other dog owners nervous 😂. But dangerous as a kitten.
I have a 4-1/2 year old male Akita. I've only seen him show real aggression to one dog; a little runt who chewed on my boot when I was trying to get it away from us on a walk. My akita does not generally like other people - other than his "puppy pack" people - but will tolerate them. The akita is beautiful, but they are very intimidating with what I like to call their "1000 year old" eyes. I get a lot of "what a beautiful dog!" - from 15 feet away. LOL. Not many people want to approach him, especially when he lays his appraising gaze upon them. I consider the akita to be the King of dogs and wish I had discovered this breed in my younger years. Overall, he is the best dog I have ever had. I sleep very well at night knowing he is in the house. A warning to those considering this breed as a pet: If you are not willing to put in the work necessary for this breed, do not get one! They require training in their early years, and socialization; more so than other breeds IMO. They are willful, smart, and prone to ignore orders they don't think are necessary. Patience, consistency, love, and a firm but respecting hand are crucial.
@@sukhmand5327 In a word. No. Before I got my akita I had a few other dogs, a husky (another Northern Spitz breed) being the closest in the independent, willful category. I will tell you the akita is a unique breed in many ways. If you have never owned a dog, they are not a good choice. The akita is a naturally dominant breed, and if they don't think you are worthy of leading, they will rule your world. They are also easily bored and will do things just to entertain themselves - which may not fit into what you want from them. Finally, they are not a "try out" dog. By that I mean if they bond with you, they are with you for life. Or should be. They are not a breed that is easily re-homed if they don't work out for your situation. If the breed interests you, I would suggest one of the other breeds in the northern spitz branch - husky, alaskan eskimo dog, or so on. They will be challenging, and give you an intro to what an akita will bring to the table. They will also teach you how to handle an independent dog, and if you are diligent, teach you how to train. As one site on Akitas said, "Akitas are not for the faint of heart." They're right.
It's been 5 years on this day, since my Akita named Bear passed away. I loved him so much you couldn't understand it. When you have a pet of any kind, treat it with love and respect that it needs and deserves no matter what, because you will receive it back from them. I pray every year to God to let me play with my best friend one more time and have a spot in heaven for him. God.... I miss you Bear and I love you and I will see soon. It'll just be like old times, I promise.
My brother has the japanese akita... They get aggressive once they get comfortable unless you train them really young also IT IS a big dog... Mines only 3 months and already as big as a normal sized labrador
Own 2, I've had a lot of breeds, and they are excellent dogs. If you train them early on in puppyhood that you're the leader they will have undying loyalty, and be constant pleasers, plus they give their owners tons of love. They would be my number one if it weren't for the German Shepherd. :) Another plus, they are super big, and great to hug!
I have an Akita and he just turned 12 and unfortunately has taken a turn for the worst and I am not sure how much time he has left. This dog is the definition of loyalty and is an incredible pet, that is if you are a good owner and know how to take care of it. He not so much aggressive to people that I know as much as he is with other dogs, they are very territorial. Best dog I've ever had, and an even better friend :) love you Cobi!!!
My akita died just recently. She was only a puppy when I was born. We were basically the same age. Very strong animals and loving. As a puppy she would kill a lot of birds; since their breed is known for hunting skills. Love love love that dog and miss her so much.
Everytime I watch "Hachiko", my eyes gets full w/ tears. Damn, not just Akita I'm in deeply in love w/ each and every dog in the world till death. No matter cute or not cute, big or small, bring them on cause' I love them all. God bless them all w/ love, better life & longer life. :) :*
I had two Akita's that lived with a German Shepard/Great Dane mix and three Pugs. These are not aggressive/territorial dogs. The way they're raised and socialized is EVERYTHING.
ah lovely shit. akitas are amazing being american akita or the akita inu. they are not agressive they are great with children its actually one of the strong parts in their breeding and they are so loving and loyal
I've met a few Japanese Akita dogs and they were pretty good with other animals - each dog is an individual and has it's own personality. Some are more tolerant than others.
I remember the Tale of Mary and three puppies Japanese movie. One of the best animal movie in the world. I think they are Akitas. Mary doing her character better than a human. That was a true story happened in Japan.
I've had 3 Akita's, and one of them birthed 7 others. These dogs are tough, so you need to show them dominance right off the bat. These are great dogs, especially for those looking to protect your family. They will put themselves in front of danger to protect you. To them, you are 'part of the herd', and they'll do anything to protect you.
Akita can be very shy around strangers. Most of their aggression tends to be aimed at other dogs. This is often a huge problem. Owners should make an effort to socialize them from a young age.
fuzzyzombielove ur rite i have an akita dey need a stong owner i seen first hand the damage an akita can do ant trust me when dey get into a fight they will kill the other dog an i mean realy like kill it mines ok with bitchs but hates males
We've had our Akita for nearly nine years. He is one of the finest dogs we've ever had in the family. I grew up with pure bred German Shepherds. I've also had a Chow Chow and a few other breeds. Each is great in their own way. None is like the Akita in my opinion. There is one main problem that one has to contend with and that is the shedding. I've come up with my own solution in dealing with our Akita's twice a year shedding. None the less, it is a mess. We've learned to over look that problem because our Akita is a part of the family. Just like each of us has physical flaws to contend with and yet accept one another it is so with the shedding of our Akita. We've really grown close to our Akita. He sort of talks when he's hungry or bored. He sounds like Scooby Doo.....He will bark from the living room when strangers walk by on the side walk. Other than that he seldom barks. A chow chow did attack our dog around six years ago on the street as he minded his own business. He unleashed his fury in a self defense mode, literally bulldozing right over the attacking dog. That dog immediately ran away in terror. Another time three loose dogs ran up to attack him. He stood there staring at them. Two backed off. The third a bull dog tried to attack our Akita. Our Akita simply brushed him off standing right over him. Our Akita didn't hurt him and has never hurt any other dog. I've taught him to be civil. He is weary of strangers that enter our home but is not aggressive toward them. He will simply go out thru his doggy door and wait till the stranger leaves........ Our Akita enjoys being with the family. He cannot stand being isolated. He is family oriented and is very protective.
I grew up with an Akita, most beautiful, gentle little man you could find. He was protective, when we moved he'd sit out with my brother in the highchair outside and growl at that one shady mover man, he just knew. Beautiful dogs.
My dad is from the akita prefecture and he really likes this breed. One time when he was just strolling around he saw an akita or akita inu he calls it with its owner. According to this vid, they're not very good with socializing....So what does my dad do? He just pets it and the dog doesn't do anything. Must have sensed that akita blood running in both of them ;)
Space being the key word there. Both Akitas I owned listened to me when I called them, rarely challenged me, and were good with strangers. Would I allow them around other dogs? Absolutely not. Instinct/genetics takes over no matter how much time or money you have. I'm not saying you can't own one but don't depend on training one second.
So I've been thinking about adopting an Akita from my local humane society and there was a video about her and it showed that she was trained and very sweet, I'm hoping to make her my emotional support dog. Would she be good for that?
+Haley Pierce Only if it is well trained and was already very well socialized. These are huge, powerful dogs and they can be dangerous, especially to strangers. Some are sweethearts, some can be very aggressive. And even the sweethearts can be protective of you.
+Haley Pierce akitas are great at emotional support. but its usually to the owner and the ones closest to their owner. they will die to protect you or people that you show strong love for. others they willl not care for.
Adopted an Akita 11 years ago. She was 1 1/2 years old and abandoned in the streets. This was the best thing I ever did, loyalty and companionship was what she brought to me. Were best friends and bonded so easily. My girl is unreplaceable.
Akitas are not aggressive I have oned two Akitas they are not at all the quit and lazy my first one died two years ago thow but I have another one that is sitting with me lol
+Johan Kjeldsen Myhre Maybe, but I try to take mine on runs with me and she just lays down and stares at me, also her favorite activity is not running around the huge garden or parking garage, but sleeping in my parent's room.
it's not actually true.. check akita history and origin, american akita and japanese akita. akita-dog.com is a great research website. you will find that japanese modified/improved in their opinion the breed in order to have a more slender body and certain coat patterns to the actual japanese akita. americans did not know about this plan and just crossed breed the existing akitas in america. therefore, it is thought that american akitas actually share more characteristics with the original akita than the modern japanese akita.
I had one of these as a kid. His name was chaos and was the best dog I ever owned. I sneaked the dog in the house on mothers day and lied saying it was a gift when it really was for me :)
I have a full-blooded Akita, and she is just a big baby. She loves people, but people are scared of her. Now on the other hand my mom had an Akita-Chow mix, and she was very territorial. She was still a good dog though.
Back when I was only a toddler, my parents had an Akita. One time I went to go play with his food and the dog just sat down and played with me. He was a food dog :3
ive got a akita Shes so Pretty and shes very old shes 77 in doggie years shes fine shes not making us pay extra and she dosnt shed alot =I so what are they talking about
Honestly, most people just don't train their dogs right if at all. Thats why certain breeds get a bad rep. I had 3 rottweilers when I was 5 years old, best dogs I ever had too. They were friendly and gentle because they were trained to be that way.
Shedding is all relative. Any double coated breed is going to shed their undercoat a few times a year, plus the usual shedding year round, and need regular brushing to prevent mats. But someone with a non-shedding breed such as a poodle, is going to think they shed a lot.
Carolyn Black exactly. i have a Border Collie, a Boxer and an Akita... the Boxer sheds the worse in my opinion. her fur sticks and weaves it's way into everything. my Akita's fur is much longer and finer so it sorta clumps together and cleans up way easier.
MarioIsLife for the Japanese and original version : Akita Inu, they're known to love sleeping and doing nothing of their days, they can live in an apartment without any problems, but still are very energetic and crazy once outside. And even though they're lazy sometimes, they need a strict education, since they are extremely intelligent, it can be very easy, as well that it can be pretty hard to teach them basic things.(Obey and learn INCREDIBLY fast with treats, may not even give a shit if your hands are empty). Most of the time, they do not get along well with other dogs especially ones that are the same sex as yours so you have to pay attention when you go for a walk with your dog. Mine is very aggressive when she meets other dogs...but they are awesome dogs if you're an awesome owner, hope it helped you :)
I can tell you from experience that apartments are awful conditions to keep a dog like this. I had a beautiful Akita x Alaskan Malamute and it was very difficult because of their coat blowouts and constant energy (needing walks). Look into it more before you do. It's a huge responsibility.
My Akita Bear passed a few weeks ago at 13 1/2. Adopted age 4 from a shelter he hated anything on 4 legs and at 104 lbs was a typical alpha male. With a lot of training he became good with other dogs even little ones greeting him while he patiently lifted his head up out of their reach. A friend's cat that thinks its a dog one day just walked over and lay down right next to Bear's massive paw - - he made a friend. Give them love and training and you'll have a beautiful loyal companion.
I had an Akita as a child. My dad named him "Bear," but he was far from aggressive. He use to dance with us and was the most obedient dog I've ever seen.
Many ppl think that they are the same even thought the japanese akita inu was first and it only comes im two colours white and, white and brown. But ultimatly they come from the same breed just two types of it and they are regarded as the same in many videos.
I have Akita Inu or (other name,Japanese akita)....American's think that Akita Inu and American akita are the same breed... it's very annoying..... and yes,I don't mean shiba inu.... shiba is a small japanese verison of akita inu...
I regularly babysit for my aunt's American Akita and it's the best dog I've ever known. Super sweet, beautiful, and loyal. Chased a raccoon out of the yard but nuzzled a kitten. Nothing beats walking her either. Man, the looks people give you when they see that dog!
AtomSoBomb That's so ignorant and foolish i got no words. I can only get physical. And that can't be done over the web. So, please, don't comment on my post.
oh my god! a little knowledge is a very dangerous thing...LIKE THIS 4 minute video!!!...ridiculous!! you can NOT sum up a breed in 4 minutes or 4 hours even...these dog 101s are DANGEROUS to any breed ESPECIALLY a unique, special breed like the Akita...i have 2 now and have had one before them...and before that i raised and showed champion rough & smooth Collies...what a difference!...but had i met Akitas before Collies i would have never had another breed!...if you REALLY want to know about Akitas do NOT go to dogs 101...go to shows, go to breeders, go to books and training classes!!! spend a year or MORE researching the breed THEN come back here and make comments!!!
I feel your pain. I had to put my Akita to sleep Friday. She was suffering from hip dysplasia very bad. She wouldn't let it really show but I knew how much she hurt. Even with hip pills. I adopted her 10+ years ago at the age of two, my best friend and companion forever.
We just got our American Akita. Male, 16 weeks, and the MOST WELL BEHAVED dog I have ever met. He’s very sweet and very gentle, doesn’t bark, and thinks he is a lap dog. We have been around a lot of kids and other dogs and he thinks they are just the bees knees. Very sweet and very gentle.
My mom’s boss had one of these dogs and he was overly aggressive due to the owner never being there. The dog bit my mom multiple times but wasnt put down ever. He once saved my mom from a pitbull that chased her. Loved that dog so much but never was given the proper love however he earned my respect. Love you Alfred the Akita
Yea, they're cool. I had one when I was a kid. She loved to run and pull me on my skateboard. I used to take her to Golden Gate Park and she could pull me almost the whole way.
yeah, I only mean by money so i can pay for food, vet check ups, grooming, and everything a dog needs. space so the dog can have room to play and run. (not counting walks). Right now i wouldnt be able to take one due to college life and apartments are not enough room for an Akita. :) thanks for giving me tips i'll ask questions when it gets closer to the time of owning one. down the road when i have a steady job and a actual house with a nice fenced yard.
