This is a Monstera Deliciosa otherwise known as the swiss cheese or salad plant. Often it's hard to know when to water this beauty. It's important to water correctly as persistant overwater or underwatering can lead to slow growth, deformed leaves, stunted leaves, rot root, brown leaves or in the worse case scenario death of the plant. It's best not to water on a schedule as watering varies between the seasons, the plant size, pot size, pot type. I can't advise to water once every week or once every fortnight as your household and outdoor environment would be different then mine. Best to get to know your monstera watering needs by the appearance and habit of the plant.
The first sign a Monstera needs watering is droopy leaves. The leaves don't proudly fan out anymore and Droop. If it's let longer without water the tips of the leaves will as this is the furthest point in distance from the roots. Then the edges will brown followed by the whole leaves browning and die. Followed by the stems wilting and then the eventual death of the Monstera. At any of these stages the Monstera needs a good watering to ensure the soil is only moist but not soggy.
Monstera don't like to be completely between watering they like 3/4 dry before watering. First step before watering your Monstera is to check the soil for moisture. You can you a watering meter and water when the arrow is one step away from being dry. Can use your finger and dig in the soil and check if the soil clings to the finger which means the soil is still moisture. I would rather not get my fingers dirty so l suggest using a stick like a chop stick. Go as far as you can in the soil and see if the soil clings to the chop stick. If the soil doesn't cling to the stick then it's time to water. No matter how dry the soil is only give enough water to make the soil moist and not soggy.

Hi Dadibble, Monstera have a front side where leaves grow out and a back side where roots tend to grow out. That's why leaves won't tend to grow at back. Root sticks will tend to take longer to grow, hang in there your monstera will grow. Is you want to grow the Monstera in a certain direction then direct the front of the monstera in that direction. Great tips, thank you. IM having issues with my monstera monkey mask. I can never seem to have luck with this variety. The leaves brown away regardless of watering pattern, gave it fresh soil, which I mixed up orchid bark, pearlite, charcoal and some premium potting mix. I have gave it a spray of neem oil too underneath as I did see some tiny black bugs on it. Any help on this one would be great.

Hi Elwood, Thanks for watching and your support. Yes, that plant is more fussy then a monstera Deliciosa. The only other thing l can suggest is give it a clear plastic sleeve or place it in a clear bag and leave slight opening at the top to give this beauty some extra warmth and humidity. I would move it a little back if it's near a window to make sure it's not the overnight temperature drop causing and issue. Also keep it away from heaters and air conditioners if it happens to be near one. Hope that helps and thanks for asking a good question. Happy Monstera Gardening ❤️
