Created by the Washington Motorcycle Safety Program, this video follows a motorcyclist who helps a teen driver learn about safer choices while sharing the road.
I was recently hit by a car whilst on my motorcycle, due to the driver failing to give way at a roundabout. Spent the next two weeks bed ridden, and over 2 months on crutches - it has been 4.5 months since, and I have still not recovered completely and am now out of work. All the driver ever said to me was "didn't see you" while I was laying on the ground in the middle of the road. Not even a sorry. He's probably forgotten about the whole incident and continues to live his life, but for me, I'm reminded with literally every step that I take.
As a fellow rider I hate that these stories are all too common. I have never been in an accident with my bike but I can sympathies. My roommate lent his friends his bike for the week and he was struck and killed by a van turning in front of him. The van driver never checked to see if anyone was there. The move was so sudden his friend could not react in time. My roommate decided to hang up his helmet after that and not ride again. I suppose he felt guilt (even though he shouldn't have had to) for something that another careless and reckless person did. A friend lost and another fellow rider off the roads. I hope things turn around for you and you continue to heal physically and mentally. I hope you are able to find work and get your life back. I know its a cliche thing to say, especially at a time when the world feels very unfair but you have your life. I don't say that to belittle your experience but to encourage you to fight back against the misfortunes that life presents us with.
spiznas Maybe because sorry doesnt do anything and that guy knows it. Many people grew up with people telling them sorry dont do shit. And now they see no point in apologizing since itll anger most people further.
this was a cinematic masterpiece i mean it's insane this is even free to watch the fact randy and ian stopped im time just to talk once and never again is absolutely devosating concidirning they could've been good friends i mean i cried to this for HOURS
In driver's ed we watched a video involving corpses and real people and I was completely unphased, but I know bikers and my dad was one. They're good people. The gore didn't keep me up, it's me fucking crying over some fictional dude named Randy.
As a Motorcycle Safety and Awareness instructor for ABATE of Illinois, I applaud this video and the folks involved in getting it produced. This is one of the best, hard hitting, get into the kid's head videos I've seen. I have shared this on my Facebook page and asked everyone I know to do the same. Awareness is the key to preventing motorcycle accidents and this video hammers the reasons why home like no other I've seen, including the one we use for our classes. The only thing I might quibble with is the motorcyclist could have more appropriate safety gear but that is a different conversation. Good job.
The State of Washington knocked it out of the park with this PSA. It would be great if they put it on TV in 30 to 60 second PSA's, the viewers would be hooked and waiting for the next episode.
Alot of people in my country wouldn't have a clue about how intense this ad is, there's alot of uneducated people living in Jamaica, this ad is so deep I love it.
"Hey Ian, I really should have more gear on. Preparing for your mistakes is part of my responsibility as a rider. Take me to the nearest place where I can buy something that is gonna make this hurt less and possibly even save my life. I'll teach you some stuff on the way about driving around motorcycles." - Big Bear AKA Randy
When the aorta tears, it really doesn't matter how much less that elbow rash is going to hurt. Those left turners tend to be beyond personal protection.
Jim McGee I realize this video is an attempt to educate the non-riding population about being more cautious and aware of motorcycles on the road. That being said, I can see the argument that the video is not for riders but for drivers - so, I shouldn't be addressing the rider. However, assuming the injuries that occur from the accident portrayed are going to be above and beyond the help of proper riding gear is 100% not a responsible, or valid, argument to have. On top of that, who are you helping? I speak from personal experience when I tell you that "elbow rash" is not the only thing proper protective gear helps protect the rider from. Ignorance is bliss? Maybe on RU-vid...from your comfy chair. Not on a motorcycle! Merry Christmas!
NOSQUIDDING.com couldn't agree more. The problem is that people take 1 driving course when they are 16-18 years old. And then go 40 freaking years without an evaluation. That's insanity. I'm proud to say I receive enough speeding tickets to require taking a safety course once per year. I've avoided countless accidents on my bike. And before I _even_ bought my bike, I bought my gear. We should all HAVE to take a safety course once per year. It would increase state revenue, decrease traffic accidents, and prevent idiots & the ignorant from driving.
You are free to make unfounded comments, but I must laugh at how far off you both are. With miles will come humility. It is from funerals that I added my comment. The reaper will escort us ALL out, with armor, leathers, or jeans.
Why does Randy have to get back on his bike tho? I feel like there could be a way to escape that limbo and somehow reset time while avoiding the situation
@@Thechist781So sad.Yes,he could not escape his fate..maybe,that is what he would have liked to do-to warn the young dude before it was too late for him.But he could not.
Randy: oh, you’re approaching me? Instead of staying in your lane, you’re coming right to me? Ian: I can’t crash into you without getting closer. Randy: HOHO! Then come as close as you like. Randy: THE WOLRLD! 0:56
Niesamowity film, wzruszający i dający do myślenia. Na pewno godny udostępniania dużo bardziej niż cały ten głupawy szajs, którego pełno. Mi się podoba, bardzo. Zapraszam do obejrzenia do końca.
This video saves a lot of lives. Thank you for making this video and publishing it. I am both a driver and a rider. This video is useful for both people driving cars and for people riding motorcycles. Thank you again :)
Now do one where the car turns in front of a semi tractor. Drove for years, can't count the number of car drivers who looked me right in the eye as they pulled out in front of me or cut me off.
Very well made. I know drivers ed can be a bore for kids but I really hope this helps get the message across. I wish it had a little more shock value at the end, such as actually showing an accident, but it's really quite good otherwise. As a rider and a driver, thanks DOL, if this even prevents one accident it's well worth it.
i saw this video a few days ago in class and then i realized that the guy who plays Ian was the one who trained sway and hype house but still this is a good video to learn from!
When I ride my motorcycle on the wet road or under the rain I ride 5-10 mph less then the speed limit, and drivers are constantly tailgating me, signaling and yelling me. I hate it.
i have the same problem. there are FAR too many clowns like ChicagoSpartan on the road. that is a sad fact drivers like ChicagoSpartan NEVER get the picture until they KILL somebody then they are sorry and didn't mean to. SHIT!!!!!
I'm a motorcycle rider and had 6 in my lifetime. I've been looking at the motorcycle safety videos which are helpful and most material already known. Some I find of no use but is in the course they have you take today. I was just wondering why they don't have the same number of videos for 4 or more wheel drivers making them aware of cycles. After all the cars are the problem in... I would say at least 70% of accidents. I had one guy looked me in the face while sitting in the center turn lane and was looking at him to see if he saw me, and what did he do? He pulled over into me and forced me between his car and the car in the lane to my right and I was now riding the line. So much for... I didn't even see him!
Nice video, but didn't touch on 'Ian's" distracted driving early in the video. Eating, fiddling with the stereo, taking your eyes off the road or even just driving with one hand while behind the wheel makes a car driver far more dangerous to other cars as well as bikes.
I had to watch this for drivers ed, this is the most heartbreaking, earth shattering, tear summoning, ball twisting video i've ever seen. Randy just wanted to teach Ian how to drive safely on the street with cyclists!! They could have been best friends!! why did it have to end this wayy??? *be carful around motorcyclists, Kids.*
This is an excellent video I would like to show when presenting Share The Road with Motorcycles. ABATE of Iowa has been educating the Drivers Education students for many years now and I am interested in using your video in the class rooms to help educate students and businesses.
Damn good video for sure,If People could really start to realize how dangerous a vehicle can be, the damage it and the driver can inflict on someone in so short a time, with all that speed and weight,We have survived without cell phones for decades, we can at least pull into a parking lot if we really need to make a call. At 30 mph if you take your eyes off the road for three seconds you will have gone 132 feet, 176 feet while you took 4 seconds to unwrap that burger and you will have traveled 220 feet for five seconds as you looked for your freaking fries! and you will not have seen the road. At 50 mph, taking your eyes off the road for 3 seconds means you went 220 feet and not knowing what the hell you were doing. I suppose accidents would greatly decrease if everyone would be charged for vehicular homicide and it would be up to the driver to prove his/her innocence.
horrible, but, also brings awareness to us all, that we MUST share the roadway with others, also paying attention to what is all around us without taking our eyes off the road.
as a fellow motor cycle rider , I have seen instances like this far too often. fortunately they've been near misses. they've happened to me, they've happened to those I ride with. I must agree wholeheartedly with BIG BEAR, when you are in your car, PLEASE ,,,, look TWICE bikes, because of their size are VERY difficult to see , and it's hard to judge their distance and speed. please, please , PLEASE, watch out for motor cycles, for I don't want have to die ,,,,,,, like Randy had to. so, DON"T KILL ME!
I ride all year round in Seattle/Renton/Snohomish I can't tell you the number of times people push me out of my lane when merging. It happens so much that I don't even care anymore. If anyone reads this the biggest thing I want people to know is that at NIGHT MAKE SURE its a motorcycle not a CAR even though the headlights on a bike look like a CAR that's faraway at night. So many times people will pull out 30 feet in front of me while I'm doing 45 (the speed limit) even if I'm in the far left lane. Or worse people take a left turn right in front of me doesn't matter what lane I'm in.
This is actually a pretty cool commercial. It would've been beneficial to include the previous year's and current year's motorcycle death and injury statistics to really show how many people end up as victims. It is almost a daily occurrence here in Florida. It really sucks when the driver of the vehicle gets a reckless driving ticket and the biker gets the Coroner's Certificate. Driving.seems to be about 4th or 5th >most Important things to do while driving. Texting, tick tock, music selection, fb, etc... You know, everything else EXCEPT driving and paying attention.
I can't believe they would take down a video such as this that helps all of us be more aware of the motorcyclists we all share the roads with. . . . . Absolutely SINFULL to have had it removed!
My son, John, was killed in an incident just like the beginning of this video. The driver of the car was distracted by something, they would not say what. The person received a negligent driving citation, while I lost my 23 year old son.
Jerry, I cannot imagine the pain that you carry in your heart for your son. I hope that this project can play a small part in ensuring that sons, daughters, friends, wives, husbands, and daddies can come home every day.
I am sorry for your heartache, had a friend up in Rehoboth,Mass.Barry Bonner, went out with some guys who were drunk, hit a tree by LaSalette shrine, he never made it home. Not that it will bring back your son but the person who only got a negligent driving citation has some very bad Karma heading their way.
Whether the driver intended to kill Jerry kershner's son or not, that is what happened. Another driver died because of their negligence. I just hope this driver doesn't repeat that terrible mistake, and perhaps kill a mother and her baby
Idk why but my driving teacher showed us the most horrifying driving videos to exist like holy sh*t This one had be spooked, and then i saw the one where a kid calls his mom while his car is filling up with water, WHILE his friends are screaming for help Like Jesus Christ do they want me to drive or have ptsd while driving.
Sorry to hear that Paul, People just don't take driving anywhere as seriously as they should. The States should be VERY strict dealing with negligent drivers, two to three tons of steel at speed is deadly dangerous and people don't have enough respect for that.
