Dolly's from the heart, Whitney a power ballad; both are great, Dolly's will always make me tear up a bit more - just gentle.

Dolly's is definitely from the heart, coming from an emotional time in her life that put her on a new path. Absolutely loved the history and her awesome performance.

Dolly is honest, not sung operatic style, like Huston, which would spawn all the American Idol wannabes that just over sing everything ,with all the whoa ,whoa, whoas ,like Christine Agulara does ,that gets on my nerves,....like ,just sing it normal, and skip all the fake scripted fake emotional crap, its disingenuos

Thank you for telling the story behind the song. Dolly agreed to join The Porter Wagoner show for five years. After having great success with the show, Dolly was ready to spread her wings and become a solo artist. Porter was not happy with Dolly's desire to leave even after seven years. He did agree she could move on after he heard this song. Unfortunately he sued Dolly for millions. After Dolly became a global superstar, Dolly heard news that Portor was having financial issues and was selling his music catalog. Dolly simply purchased the catalog, and gave it back. Dolly has a beautiful soul. You should react to "light of a clear blue morning." This was Dolly's first song written after leaving the studio for the last time. Its simply amazing.

You are telling the truth about Dolly Parton. She is truly a National Treasure, a storyteller, accomplish songwriter, with such a sweet and beautiful voice. Dolly is said to of cried after hearing Whitney Houston’s version and she said: “I never thought my little song could be so beautiful”. Few know that Dolly continues to make money anytime a talent show feature her song and a lot of money off Whitney Houston’s version of I will always love you”. Coming from a dirt poor family that lived in a house with no electricity, no running water, and only candles for light. She has always gracious with giving most recently: 100s of millions of dollars in finding a vaccine for COVID-19. I ❤️ her.

I have always loved Dollys versions the most. She has done some amazing live ones. It is one of very few times I think the original is almost untouchable. Whitney Houstons version is most known of course, but not my favorite. I like it more calm and peaceful. I love Angelinas rendition more than Whitneys, because she is closer to Dolly. Thank you again, Deborah, wise comments as always 💕

Angelina took Dolly's touching melismas and Whitney's vocal strength. She made a new song synthesis. It turned out brilliantly from Angelina.

Dolly and Angelina's versions are very expressive and emotional. Out of the 3 that I did, Whitney's was the only one that I had listened to...a lot. Love Dolly Parton and the story behind the song and Angelina of course had a quieter approach to the song as Dolly did. Just beautiful!

Hi Deborah, WOW I totally forgot about this. I remember watching this in on TV back then. (If I remember right it was on a show called Hee Haw) I watched her sing Jolene back than too & loved those 2 songs, I think it might of been 3 songs by her at that time I liked. I was starting to get into Queen, Heart, & Aerosmith etc leaving Folk, R&B, & Old Rock etc . What a trip, how much time has passed & how the music has changed & how somethings got better & others a whole lot worse. Well God bless you sweetie & your family.

What i used to enjoy the most about Dolly is her album in which she signs with Kenny Rodgers. They were musically completing each other very well. Dolly has a unique spendid, brilliant and unimitable voice. I will add, especially in her high notes and touching melismas and vibrato. If you only allow yourself to put aside your bias concerning country music and focus entirely on Dolly's vocal abilities, you may fall in love with her immediately. Even with her Christmas songs!

Jacques you are so correct regarding people's impression of country music. When people hear the word 'country' music, they immediately tune out. I am one as well that never really gave it a chance. But hearing Ms. Dolly perform this beautiful song definitely gave me a different set of listening ears

As a postscript to their story, in Porter's later years, when he was struggling and Dolly was big time, she bought the rights to all the songs he'd sold and gave them back to him.

Thank you for making the effort to learn the background of the song and share it with us. Few reactors I have seen are willing to do this, which is really pretty easy to do in the age of the internet. It adds so much to our understanding and appreciation of the song. Your analysis and commentary is also thoughtful and valuable. Keep up the good work. And can I dare to hope that if you ever react to a song in a foreign language (say, for instance, Nessun Dorma, or O Mio Babbino Caro ... or even Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto), you will read a translation of the lyrics first and let your viewers know what the song is about? As opposed to those reactors whose reaction is, "O wow, that was great even though I have no idea what he/she was singing about!" Nothing wrong with being impressed by the mere sound of a performance, of course, but I prefer people like you who also care about the meaning! I hereby subscribe, because you really do Have Something to Say. God bless!

Replying to myself ... OK, just saw your reaction to Je Suis Malade, so I see you do pay attention to foreign lyrics as well. I should have known. I'm not a native French speaker, but I think you even pronounced it correctly! Your commentary on the meaning of that song was also spot on! Everyone who sees this and hasn't seen that one should go find it right now. Kudos to you again, girl!

Yours is the best reaction to this song I've ever heard. You took the time to understand the song's context -- which made it possible to understand and fully appreciate the lyrics. It's an unusual, maby unique, purpose for a song, and the underlying emotional impact is unique. You saw all of that, and explained to your viewers why everything about the song is beautiful. Thank you!
