It have its own 'language' to set and navigate, nowadays I could easily set retroarch up on many of the device because Im quite fluent of what it expect from the users, but back then when I try to setting it up for the first time its surely a nightmare

@@Roll3er there's normal dolphin and then dolphin mmjr2, mmjr2 is based off a older version of normal dolphin and is being worked on by the community

For games like new super mario bros I just map the shake function to the L trigger and move the cursor to R stick. Unless you're playing something like wii sports it works out

But what if they add support for dolphin bar it’s just usb and the bar manages the Bluetooth connections. Works very well on pcs and doesn’t need any drivers at all

@@TheOswaldChannel USB is just a connection, every device requires drivers. Otherwise you could use anything on Playstation and Switch too. The Windows version on Xbox is stripped down compared to Windows on PC. OS Builtin drivers does not have feature parity between PC and Xbox console. I am not saying it won't work, I am just throwing something to think about why it might not be possible. Especially because you can install apps on PC with root rights and do what you want, while in Retail mode the installation and system access of Xbox apps is limited. Can you use any generic gamepad on Xbox in example? (I don't know, just asking.)

@@thelonejedi538 Have you tried using the OGL renderer in retroarch on Xbox? It's far, far inferior to either the DX11 or DX12 ones. And there's no option for Vulkan, because Vulkan isn't supported on Xbox. DX12 would be the best choice by a country mile. If there's one API that's unneeded, it's OGL.

how do I add games directly from the xbox ssd??

Wind Waker looked even more amazing on the Wii U with the updated visuals. Both versions look amazing and I do not mind playing either of them.

I remember when it was released the freaking backlash it got for being cel shaded. But you can now see how well its graphics have aged compared to Twilight Princess. There's no contest.

@@Zontar82 yeah, I mean it runs a lot better in standalone. I'm on series x retail mode and RA dolphin worked but with stutters and low resolution. Here it runs with almost no stutters, full speed and at 1440p flawlessly.

Yes, but you lose the features of Retroarch, like shaders etc.

@@Zontar82 fk RA. Its bloated and stupidly complicated to configure. Also if u give a person a controller they usually wont know how to start a game...........its just bloated and not inuitive software. I always hated that about RA and thats why i always, if i can, use a Standalone version.

@@davetech356 way less difficult than setting up RetroArch. Here (if you use USB on retail mode like me) I just configured my USB drive with a tool called Xbox media USB to format and give permissions needed by dolphin and did what MVG did here. Since I already replayed through Metroid prime, starfox adventures entirely without an itch.

What point is there in adding retroachievements support to a platform that doesn't even have any games with achievements?

@@robg1163 beacuse it is fun and most of the retro consoles that does not have retroachievements, now can have thanks to emulators like flycast for sega dreamcast, aethersx2 ps 2, duckstation ps1....

The Pictobox requires efb2ram instead of efb2texture only or however the settings are called these days. And it needs cpu efb access. If any of those 2 settings is wrong, the game crashes when you try to use the Pictobox. On regular Dolphin, there are game specific ini files provided that automatically enable those 2 features for the game. It's possible that RetroArch doesn't ship with those files, maybe even intentionally, because those 2 settings might cost you 50% of the performance in this game. The performance loss is likely not an issue on a series s, but one a xbox one x, the game might even be playable with the hacks, but certainly not with them disabled. Protip: If this works, create yourself a hotkey that switches those 2 settings, because switching them on the fly should be stable. Well, if you switch them before trying to take a picture.

Speaking from PC experience, the PS2 core in RetroArch is way behind and still experimental with known problems. So it won't be good und XBox either.

can the wii mote work without a sensor bar? I'm pretty sure it works with candles in the right position and other crazy non powered hack for those of us whose sensor bar has just died.

@@jemiebridges3197 nope, that's the thing the input from wii mote can't be recognized by the Xbox. I don't know if someone will create some hacky way of doing so, just like adding gyro to Xbox controller was invented, but until then we can only hope for Microsoft's official support of the Wii mote.

I've always been wary of retail mode workarounds like that, since it seems to be exploiting the beta program or whatever MS has setup for testing things.

What’s even more awesome is that, since emulation is CPU-heavy (moreso than GPU-heavy), they all work nearly as well on the Series S!

@@GamerzPro1231 No PC can match the Series S's size, quietness, performance, or thermals at anything even remotely close that price point. And I'm not sure any PC can match the Series S's low wattage, at any price point. Ditto the Series X, with the potential exception of wattage.

I have Retroarch running around 40 consoles fine on Series X, it's not for casuals that's for sure.

If it's a good front end you want, I highly recommend Launchbox or Playnight

Not sure why it's known to be like that. My old gaming laptop with 8750H and 1050Ti can run it perfectly, and IIRC so are iPhones (or at least I remember it running well on tbe iPhone 11 and DolphiniOS. I might misremembered it though, so take the iPhone claim with a grain of salt).

There is OGL support on Xboxes, but it's VERY limited and honestly even DX11 is better, let alone DX12. What would be really interesting is a port of RPCS3. Older versions had DX12 support which was dropped to simplify things, but if someone cared enough they could in theory port it to UWP. Can you imagine how funny it would be for Xbox to support PS3 emulation before PS5 does?

@Kirby0Louise Yeah, issue with OpenGL is its really slow so therefore wouldn't be ideal. True, they could add back DX12 to RPCS3 however there have been so many updates and DX12 was always worse than Vulkan that it would still be a massive undertaking.

None of them are the best consoles. All consoles have their good and bad points. I have pretty much every recent console but I don’t favour one over the other but I do like my PS5 the most because my account is there and I enjoy the exclusives.

I've tried this in the past. In the end, nothing beat the physical experience of pushing the power button and hearing the GameCube boot up. I feel like the medium is often overlooked. It's part of the experience!

@@cakeisamadeupdrug6134 That doesn't change anything for the GameCube. You can run PAL games at 60 Hz 480p through Swiss. Anything older, however, is indeed borderline unplayable on original hardware without using NTSC roms on a flashcart.

Not really. Their CPUs are almost identical so emulation will be practically identical unless it becomes GPU limited like raising the internal resolution past a certain point

I have the originals but R4 is a blurry mess by today's standards, so was wondering whether to buy an XSX or XSS. Are you saying the XSS could upscale to 1080p no problem, but might struggle upscale to 4K? I've seen programs like DuckStation can offer things like that. Cheers 🍻

Perhaps if/when 4k is enabled on the emulator? I bet you could crank everything up to max in the settings and have a pretty darn good time. Keep in mind the emulator is pretty early on right now so things like 4k just aren't enabled right now.

Here you must keep in mind that some of the games doesn't support really well full 4k so generally we tend to select 1440p. It's an awesome middle ground between excellent performance and sharp visuals. Edit: and I'm also on series x
