All the comedians mentioned are American. So how do you know what other comedians there are "on the planet" that do not qualify for your list. Did you know that there actually countries and comedians outside of the USA?
I used to watch Carson with my mom who was a night owl. We used to watch in L.A. when the Tonight Show was on from 11:30 to 1:00 AM. No wonder I missed so many days of school!
It’s unfortunate that some of the great comedians of that time couldn’t have more serious sides of their personality explored. They always had to be “on,” and I guess Dick Cavette helped take on that role to add depth, but even then. I venture to say for example Chris Farley could have gotten an Oscar. I read somewhere someone in Hollywood had told Chris Farley he would be great in a drama. Dangerfield starred in a drama.
brian leblanc that is sad it's not the same quality never so much garbage on so many channels. It's all about pushing agendas down our throats instead of entertaining us.
Right on my fellow " baby boomer" 1963, May I was born...I enjoy talking to people the same age as me on here! I LOVE youtube for that reason, going back to my good days! Wonderful memories!
At one point, it seemed he wasn't laughing so much at the jokes but at Rodney's non stop bringing up stuff which Carson had to be a set up man....like he was laughing more at Johnny trying to deal with dealing with Rodney.
Few, if any, could make Johnny laugh as did Rodney. And, to his credit, Johnny could be a heck of a straight-man feeding Rodney lines. Miss them both!!!
Those were the days when entertainers went into the entertainment industry because they loved it. They would have been entertainers even if it meant they had to live on the street. Today's "entertainers" are in it just for the money.
"....the rabbit didn't die, it just stays in critical condition.". i LMAO every single time I hear it. Also the "....who's talking' here?" bit. Too much.
Two of my favorite comedians/actors. I never realized they appeared together on the Carson show. Granted it was before my time, but it's great to see these two on stage together with Carson. Wish they were both still around. Fatso and Easy Money are some of my favorite comedies.
Producer should've shown Dom more! He musta been crying over Machine gun Rodney. From 1st one liner....was a great set from Dom too...they both got a little outside for the times !!! Yay! Great post!
Man he was like a machine gun delivery wasn't he....ya had to love him... the love he never got at home came in Spades once he started to make it - and it never stopped... you were the greatest Rodney , Rest in peace young man !
Was this when Carson was still in New York City? And, somebody told me The Tonight Show was 1:30 hours long back then. Either way, Johnny Carson was the one and only, top dog, rock star talk show host. Whomever you feel is second best, is a very long way from this gifted host. Damn, I miss late night TV so much.
I just wanted to thank you so much Archilchus Moz, for sharing this. These shows were wonderful. It was such a relaxing and uplifting way to unwind from the stress of the day, watching these before turning in at night. Watching Johnny's show was an escape from the stress of the news and the daily grind of the day. None of the talk shows of today, offer this. Thanks again.
Amen never be another like him out could replace him. I remember when he retired and hated it no don't leave us Johnny! wah. You can't learn what he had.
+Paige Cat The difference between Carson and the rest of these hacks, less David Letterman, Carson made the show about the guests, these other make the show about themselves
Johnny Carson was the best of the late night hosts and knew how to get involved and sit back and very seldom every got into politics not like the jerks on air now. RIP Johnny and thanks for the Laughs
its like Dom Deluise just met Rodney for the first time and can't believe how funny this guy is. Rodney's not even fazed, he just keeps rolling with the punches, he did his job and killed it, "Bring on the next guy."
Rodney was cool, funny, and smart.he made me laugh!I could listen him all day,and still laugh my ass off! He was in a class by himself. He was the best of all the comedians.
@@jamesanthony5681 Obviously you are too young to remember him, he was an extraordinarily talented comedian, author and chef. Canon Ball Run movies, did the voices for multiple cartoon movies and appeared in a wide range of variety shows which included the Dean Martin Show. Hollywood legend.
@@kikionthetrailoflove7036 I'm old enough. I remember DeLuise on the Dean Martin show in the barbershop sketches, and in the Smokey?/Cannonball Run? movies with Burt Reynolds. In fact Dom & Burt used to come on the Tonight show together (promoting a movie, I guess), with Reynolds laughing uncontrollably at anything DeLuise had to say. Seriously, Burt would be on his knees laughing, and I used to think, wtf is so funny?? Crickets. I didn't know about the author and chef aspect.
Jack and Jill worked in an office together. The boss told them that he has to lay Jill or Jack off.Jill said "you're going to have Jack off because I have a hangover".
Shon C You left out Orson Bean, who was a gifted storyteller, among his many talents. Told a couple of the funniest jokes I ever heard. All are missed...
At the time I viewed this video, it had 407 dislikes. Probably people who were brought up with so called comics who use the F word. Rodney was the best.
I remember Rodney saying l saw this guy jogging naked down the street. I said buddy how come? He says because you came home early! That cracked me up lol😀
guyfihi I tried to find a show where Rodney and Rickles were together, I don't know if they would work well together, but it sure would be interesting. Rodney pretty much did more standup jokes in his interview, while Rickles interacted with the crowd and the host more. Two completely different comedians, but both hilarious, and took over the show when they were on.
It wouldn't work, since they would both try to be the center of attention. One insults and the other one is all about self-deprecation... Just doesn't work since it's all going in the same direction.
Looking back on time you realize what powerhouse and legendary comedian that Rodney Dangerfield was. If still alive I think Dom Deluise would agree, he could barely contain himself.
Too bad we don't also get the full Orson Bean segment... Look closely at the phone. It has an "exclusion key", something they didn't cover while they were at it, but that's understandable because it would have taken half an hour to explain.
Tears of laughter. Hand me a 'Kleenex' please. :) And to think of 20 minutes of one liner 'gags' and not ONE political reference or insult to whomever the president was. Not like today's potty-mouth political hacks that claim to be comedians.
