Firstly putting your content on public display like this 💪👏👏👏👏👏. I have been doing EICRs and PIRs before that 20 years. Recorded myself doing some 3 phase testing last week and didnt make clear about the Ze test I did! It happens. Its really difficult to cover everything perfectly. Plus perfection does not exist in the first place! I love your content Mike. Real world sparking for people out on the ground helps encourage and provide insight to lots of current and future sparks. Keep it coming, look forward to the next one. #bettertogether

Quality video mate! Really informative. I’ve got the tester before this the KT64 and I’ve also got a Megger 1730 and I prefer my Kewtech. Like you say the RCD all on one page is great, the fact you can just turn the dial (on the KT64) for PFC/PSC not having to change your leads over is ace. Find the readings to be really accurate and consistent too and I’ve had mine about 6 years. Keep up the good content mate

A good way to null your plug lead out is on a safe d40 clip, also its a lot easier carrying out your r1+r2 and figure of 8 connections with kewtech jumper link leads that way you only need to remove your main bonding conductors from the earth bar for the parallel paths, also check both sides on the socket fronts as they can vary hugely sometimes. Probably a C3 for the room stat cable, Keep up the good work, Look forward to viewing some more work on the industrial videos.

Another cracking video. I'm surprised you say you're nervous, as you seem a natural in front of the camera: a very amiable, watchable chap! Keep up the good work. Watch the kewtech luminaire adaptors, they're expensive but poor quality. The ES one I've got untwisted from the metal ES part leaving it in the lamp holder. Well annoyed given their price. I hear what you say about the armchair electricians but you do raise some interesting points perhaps worthy of comment - just stop here and ignore them if you're not interested. Re the 10mm2 from the MET to the head. While it may not meet the required size by the local DNO, the adiabatic can confirm its adequacy electrically. Re the 0.05 ohms resistance of the main bonds, GN3 seems to suggest that this is not the resistance from the MET to the bonding clamp (pg 45) (I know it's in the IV section but the same presumably applies to lengths when I&T). Re the type AC RCDs. The main issue is perhaps the presence of loads that introduce DC. The much maligned codebreakers suggests that C2 be given where such loads are present, or turn the loads on and test the RCD while under those loads (which may damage the load). When checking the cooker R1+R2, did you check whether the hob and and oven are actually connected to the cpc? Re splitting the ring at the socket, it is perhaps advisable to break the ring elsewhere also, to check you haven't got a figure 8 ring. Yes, this could be checked by the increased resistances for the figure 8 but you don't know if those resistances are figure 8 or spurs, unless inspected and split apart, so simply breaking the ring in two places is quick and simple, so ideally at the CU and farthest point. Re all the other sockets being within 0.05 of each other, that's incorrect. The 0.05 only applies to the difference between r1 and rn in step 1 of testing a ring final cct - otherwise you couldn't have an increased resistance of a spur. See: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UesYHVsZD-E.html Nothing wrong with pressing the plug onto metal to null the leads! According to section 3 of GN3, no sampling of domestic installations is applicable because they are simple installations. For that globe fitting at the bottom of the stairs, the kewtech adaptors would not have helped because you still needed to unscrew the base to access the cpc. And did you flick the switch to check polarity? Careful yanking the leads out of the tester like that, they can be damaged internally, and they aint cheap. According to electrical safety first, the heating controls e.g. zone valve, should have their connection to the cpc confirmed, so not just at the socket. You're correct to just note issues with smoke alarms on the cert, as suggested in BPG4. I prefer to disconnect main bonds in simple installations to confirm continuity, to negate any effect of parallel earth's, then reconnect and check for 0.05 between the conductor and pipe, which checks the clamp connection is sound. This was another televisual feast, so thanks for doing it. 😀 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎅🎄🍺🎉

I try not to disturb the board, well as little as possible, so normally link out bus bar to earth bar then flip each mcb to do the r1r2. Do the ring from a socket then go around and take the highest reading. Some times it’s difficult to access the wiring in the board if it’s been poorly done in the first place. Great video, I’m pleased you mentioned how long these can take. Much easier in an empty property. Keep up the vids.

A tedious job very well demonstrated! I have a Kewtech KT63 which annoys me intensely with it's auto off and constantly having to null the shortish leads. I have just bought a Megger 1711. Not used it yet, but noticed that the leads are a bit longer. Was tempted to go with the KTplus but was in two minds. Just one little thing.....the central heating system is plugged into a switched socket. That should be a DP fused connection unit or a non switched socket outlet I believe. People working on it may just switch it off at the socket, leaving the plug still in, thus not providing double pole isolation. Really great video though!

Just a quick question? If you are trying to null out 50m of single core cable (yes multi strand ) while coiled in a 300mm diameter circle will this not give you a different inductive resistance value as to when you then pull out say 10m from said reel and therefore give you a lesser inductive resistance value? The voltages and currents are small when measuring resistance but can be significant. Just a thought. Great videos and I thoroughly enjoy watching them. D.
