@Bob; When it was popular was it in English? Reason is I’m here because this song was in American Horror Story and it was in French… Beautiful song. I was born in the 80’s so just curious
Yes he is Spanish, at school we were taughr of his entire life from birth to death, his favorite songs and bible verses. His life is amazing. His feast day is on August 8.
Doesn't our sweet Debbie look like an angel? Yes, there was goodness in her heart always and that goodness brought a spiritual glow to her angelic face. The world over loved her voice, her face, her dancing, her versatility - a real born trouper. There will never ever be another Debbie Reynolds!
I agree...I saw her on the Ed Sullivan Show a few times (Ed Sullivan was seen in this clip), and this woman was quite the singer. May she and her daughter Carrie Fisher rest in peace.
@@fabulousmistic4980 It’s The Singing Nun with Debbie Reynolds and Ricardo Montalban. (1966) It’s the, loosely based, biography of Belgian nun Sister Sourire who had the hit song, Dominic, in the 60’s.
LOL, I literally felt completely ripped off as a kid when i saw this movie. I had learned the song and could sing it word for word in french (though i didnt actually speak french). When went to see this movie, and Debbie Reynolds sang it in English, i had and 1960's ish WTF moment (age 9 mind you). I wanted to leave the theater. I told my mom "she's not saying the words right!!!" My mom reminded me most people wouldn't understand it because they don't speak french. To which i replied "I don't speak french!!!" She couldn't argue the logic, and we left the theater. 😁😁
Dominique, nique, nique I will tell of Dominique His goodness to acclaim And I pray the song I sing Will some simple pleasure bring That the world shall know his name! I will tell of Dominique as I sing this little song And when I sing the chorus all the world will sing along! Dominique, nique, nique it was good Saint Dominique He lived for you and me From his labors long ago Came a better world I know! And his love shall always be! “Though I‘m poor” said Dominique as he spoke unto the Lord, I will be your humble servent and your love is my reward! Dominique, nique, nique I will follow Dominique His burdens will I share For his courage will I pray His teachings to obey! His words shall be my prayer! By the kindness of his heart and the labor of his hand He brought love and understanding as he wandered through the land! Dominique, nique, nique I will tell of Dominique His goodness to acclaim And I pray the song I sing Will some simple pleasure bring! All the world shall know his name! Dominique the mighty warrior was a soldier of ther Lord His armor was devotion and the Gospel was his sword! Dominique, nique, nique it was good Saint Dominique He lived for you and me From his labors long ago Came a better world I know! And his love shall always be! Through the blazing heat of summer and the chill of winter snow I will follow Dominique! In his footsteps I will go! Dominique, nique, nique I will follow Dominique His burdens will I share For his courage will I pray His teachings to obey! His words shall be my prayer!
wow its so weird i searched this song and learned the words bc i liked it. this was a while ago. just saw a tiktok with a debbie reynolds in it and i did some digging and here i am again. small world
One can imagine Carrie Fisher watching this and cringing. How would she face her friends at school? But it was fun to see Samantha's mother Endora (Agnes Moorehead) and Fantasy Island's Mister Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) in this clip.
Obviously, Debbie Reynolds knew how to play guitar. Her left hand keeps changing cords in this clip. That's a sign that the person is really playing the guitar, as opposed to pretending to be playing it because it will be dubbed in later.
This isn't the actual English translation of the song. These lyrics must've been written for the film. That said the real English translation does a pretty decent job of rhyming.
Mary Ford did a cover that had the closest translation of the French lyrics, but also made it rhyme. That said, this movie version is no slouch either, not just despite the liberties, but because of it.
Gente eu assistir esse filme quando era criança, eu e minha irmã amávamos cantar essa música. Mas não lembro o nome do filme, alguém sabe por gentileza? Não estou encontrando aqui no google. Quero assistir novamente!🌹😊
This is a weird scene. Was CBS supposed to ship three entire camera chains plus a video recorder (at that time as big as a small bus and very delicate) to Belgium, or an entire troop of nuns plus a priest to the USA? In real life, the songs were recorded in a Canadian nunnery, and the singing num just had 2 nuns singing backup, and the local Mother Superior to act as translator as the singing nun didn't speak English. Only 4 nuns present, plus Ed Sullivan and a film camera operator.

Those are just american actors. Back in the day the US was under extreme censorship when it came to things like news and culture, so american actors were put in place of the real nuns. The real singing nun (Soeur Sourire) and her ensemble can be seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eRr6bBiUrLE.html
A CHRISTIAN FOLLOWS THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST CHRIST IS THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIGHT NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY JESUS CHRIST NOT FOLLOWING THE LIFE OF A MAN WHO DOES GOOD JESUS CHRIST IS THE WAY
Calm down bro, Saints are highly respectable people, and Saint Dominic is a very underrated person, this song isn't saying Dominic is Jesus figure, it's just praising a holy Saint.
Nonnen met make-up ? Typisch Amerikaans. 🙄 geef mij maar de film “Sœur Sourire” een Belgisch-Franse versie (2009) geregisseerd door Stijn Coninx. De actrice Cécile de France speelt haar rol voortreffelijk 👏😇🎸🎶
Who is this Dominique of whom she sings? You say he was a "saint" from centuries past. Who took it upon himself to travel about spreading the "gospel" message. (That word gospel translates as "good news".) That ancient man is NOT who she is singing about. The first clue is that she was inspired to write the song by the little boy named dominic. Recall the scene in the school yard. She quickly makes up a brief stanza, out of her head. Which projects and visualizes what he WILL Grow and mature Into. It's about him. Hint, hint. BUT, he is merely a generic representation of a wider group -- ALL of humanity. I DARE You to listen VERY carefully to the WORDS (even moreso than the catchy tune). The song is Really about YOU! It challenges You on 2 levels -- Present AND Future. Firstly, to hear the message, absorb it, yourself. And live by it. Secondly to manifest it continually in your life, as a form of "teaching" it to other people. Thus spreading the "good news" of a changed life -- a spiritual awakening. Those of you commenters who profess to love this song. ... are YOU up to the REAL challenge Sister Anne is placing before you? A man came to Jesus and asked how he could acquire the kingdom of God. Jesus answered: You must do TWO things. Obey the commandments. AND teach others to do likewise.
I try to live a good respectful life each day and be kind to everyone. I fail sometimes. My gosh in heaven Bradford Russo your message was long and I lost interest after your second sentence.
