A power mower makes perfect sense for a gardening business and maybe to 'busy people' who might be thinking "I ain't got time for dat!" but I think I'll be selling mine. My view is that while the reel mower takes a bit more effort to use on the day, it is much less hassle and expense in the long term! It's a bit of exercise that I enjoy in place of a morning run; it brings the same physical (and mental) health benefits. If, like me you enjoy gardening for its simple pleasures, there's something to be said for not having the overheads of time and money spent on maintenance and fuel. A push mower occupies considerably less space in my shed; I just have to pull it out, push it around the garden, wipe it down and put it away. I can even carry it through the house. Starting my petrol mower is often a faff because it's used so infrequently; even less now I have the Fiskars!

You need to do a cross cut when using a reel mower. It will give you a much better cut than a rotary mower.

I have a cordless electric reel mower and a Great States manual push reel mower. I've tried this Fiskar and I prefer the Great States' performance over the Fiskars. I think that having contact with the bedknife is more controlled and results in a more perfect cut. My Toro Greensmaster is phenomenal. Thanks for the video!

Yeah I finally broke down and bought a rotary mower cause the Fiskars just wasn’t cutting it. Kept leaving the weeds standing up, and there wasn’t much of any type of mulching. So I bought one of those Ryobi battery mowers, the 40volt self propelled one. Works fine for my smaller yard. There were some leaves in the back yard that have been there since the end of March. Now after 4 mows over the past two weeks they are pretty much all diced up! The Fiskars still serves a purpose for me though. The Ryobi cuts 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches, so if my next cut dictates going to 1.25 or 1.00 inches then the Fiskars will get rolled out. Over the past two weeks I just got the yard back to 1.5 inches after letting it get away from me to 4 inches tall.

I agree! It's not meant for the faint of heart! I love them because we have a small yard. You have to be on top of your lawn growth though. If you are letting your grass go to a 2-4 inches, a reel may not be good for you. You won't get a nice even cut because it ends up laying some some patches down. Your reel is way nicer than ours I must admit!

Your Fiskars reviews are really helpful while I decide which brand to go with. And the clippings aren't bad looking. I prefer to leave clippings for nourishment, and will rake them out a little, and use them to cover burned or bare spots, and have had success getting grass to fill back in with clippings. It looks good! However, you could probably find a used gas reel mower on Craigslist for about the same cost as one of those. If you had to guess, what percent of lawn guys use gas reel mowers in your area to do clients yards? In my area it’s probably 90%, unless it’s over an acre and then they’re using big rotary mowers set low.

The grass catcher they sell for it would help with all the clippings. It should be sold with the mower but they don't do it.

If you want to use a manual reel mower and not bag the clippings, you have to mow often, like every 1-3 days. Otherwise the cut clippings will be too long to break down and you’ll have big problems in a few weeks.

If you’re gonna go the reel mower route, definitely look into getting a gas powered mower. You’ll get a better cut

If the grass was shorter it would have looked better, with less debris. I use mine every three days during the spring with little to no clumps of grass.

Why is this even? It is not a commercial mower. Every manual reel mower is a once a week thing or forget about it. I don't know why this guy is trying to make a point of a reel mower's shortcomings in a commercial contractor situation. Can't wait until he tells us a make of pruning shears is no good becasue it can't cut down trees.
