The fact her Insta was listed as a public figure originally and not a brand then that seems to me like it’s a personal page not a retail page so they shouldn’t be able to take that from her. If it turns out that she has to stay at JLM until the contract expires. I would be designing the most crappie looking gowns and let them know that this is her new line, or it’s a budget line for the people who can’t afford 6k for a dress.

It's this type of thing where I wish Leverage was real. "People like that.. Corporations like that. They have all the money.. They have all the power. And they use it to make people like you go away. Right now, you are suffering under an enormous weight. We provide.. Leverage." Oh how I wish people like them existed to take down corrupted companies like this. Praying one someone takes the initiative to work their way into their business and ruin them. That would be well deserved karma.

All the did was give a platform the grow. They did not make her. She made herself, she designed the dresses not JLM. Her personality is what got her so many followers. They love her not just because of her dresses but also because she is so lovely and so kind.

Point 1: When Hayley signed that contract, it had become a common practice in the fashion industry, and the designers that signed similar contracts ran into similar problems. Many of them lost their businesses (Zac Posen). Coco Chanel did the same thing and resented the loss of control of large portions of Chanel, and that was back before World War 2. Point 2: No one, at the time Hayley entered into the contract, could foresee what social media would become. And no one could have known all of the ramifications of that contract. Last week the courts decided in favor of JLM retaining control of the social media accounts. Point 3: Hayley did indeed have legal representation at the time she signed the contract. It wasn't enough. I think had Hayley or her attorney truly understood what the full ramifications were, she would have never signed that contract. And there should have been a provision for her to buy her way out of the contract, had the situation become untenable. Point 4: Hayley herself has moved forward with a proposal for a name change. She is planning to start all over. Hopefully, in the near future, the dust will settle on this conflict. This is a clear warning for up and coming designers, entertainers, and entrepreneurs about the danger of selling either all or portions of their company or its name. These sorts of conflicts have become all too common. Investors are critical for business success. But what are you signing away when you sign that dream contract? The times change quickly and what you sign today could have far-reaching implications for your business ten years down the road.

I totally support Hayley!! Even though there was a contract, I feel that the JLM company carried it TOO far when they have her unable to use her name and her personal accounts. That is just ridiculous, and any company that carries it that far, is just so money hungry that they do not care about doing the right thing…even are willing to use “shady” practices. I will never even look at (or have young ladies or brides that I coach or direct) JLM products!! I wish Hayley the BIGGEST success in the next phase of her career. In the end, I think she will win out because she is the one with all the talent!! JLM, shame on you!!

The stupid thing about JLM trademarking her name is that she is no longer designing for them and now if the add dresses to the name it will never be the same. And in 5 years Hayley will have her own brand again and we will buy from her directly so the JLM Hayley dresses will be old and obsolete.

I also heard on a documentary from some musical star that this is also the reason that Prince changed his name to the ‘artist formally known as prince’ and came up with a symbol. They had a contract where they owned his name. And I remember watching the movie about Tina Turner, and she had to take her husband to court to keep her stage name.

What ever happens with Hayley, from now on she needs to register her name as her own. She then needs to trademark all of her designs. I’m sure she could get the money to buy her own space and hire seamstresses to do the work. Then start up her own social media again, explaining that she is no longer in the employment of the other company and has started up her own business. With what I have seen of her designs, she will definitely have word of mouth references from other happy brides.

It's a waste of time to copyright or trademark designs. All a person has to do is change 30% of it and it's not yours. When I was in fashion design school they told me that if a person changes a button or they change the pattern or they change the material or they change the lace etc., that it won't hold up for being your design anymore.

JLM sounds like they had the same lawyers (Dewey, Cheatum and Howe) who "bought" Bob Ross's name. However, Bob Ross's son was warned by one of the owners of BRI, "Annette called me two days after my dad died, and she said, “I want you to listen to me carefully… Any Bob Ross art products, anything related to art or painting… you can never ever make those, distribute those, create a business around those-nothing. But if you would like you can do anything not painting- or art-related that you want. You can do Bob Ross pickles, Bob Ross shoes, Bob Ross whatever. But you cannot put the Ross name on a painting- or art-related product, period-ever-for the rest of your life.” Be careful what you sign.

When I first seen the title and start of this video, I was going to jump on you. Now I say good for you, I didn’t know this information and I’m glad I do for when I find a dress. Her name should stay her name, her designs should be her designs. And that company will lose customers because they are tearing her. Preach!!!!

Clearly her mom should be the one to sue JLM as she gave her the name and signed her birth certificate… THAT should be a legal loop hole!!! Ahh man that’d be dope! Lol Birth certificate should trump business contract! FUCK they really did her dirty! Never trust a business as they are only about what you can do for them not what they can do for you, if they DO do something for you, that shit ain’t free! I also get the legality but the fact it’s legal should be illegal haha Businesses should not be allowed to have that stipulation! Especially “in perpetuity!” I’ve taken business classes for voice over and they told us right off the bat, “never sign anything in perpetuity because it means forrreverrrr” and I was thinking “oh hell no if it’s my voice/name it shouldn’t even be an option you own it at all!” Yeah ok she signed it, but it was her first contract, how old was she?? There should be competency clauses against that shit, some kind of protection for first time business signers. (Oh and child entertainment! I have a very big issue with that as well, and actors have the worst of it, there should be protective representatives for them from their own parents.) Young and eager will get screwed every time.

No, it's not. Hayley signed away the rights to her name so whether or not you think it's right or wrong is a moot point. JLM is doing exactly what their contract allows them to do. Hayley made the mistake of not having an attorney look over the contract before she signed her life away & she does freely admit that. What consumers can do is not support JLM & refuse to buy Hayley Paige wedding gowns. Hayley can still design gowns, just not under her name.

She can’t. She’s under court order that she cannot design or sell anything in the bridal arena until August 2022. Even if there’s no label on it. I’ve made comments about wanting so badly to have a Hayley Paige dress but not if she’s not getting paid for it.

I don’t agree with what JLM has done, but it was all in the contract, including her social media. They were able to prove that they were instrumental in helping her set up all of her social media. Legally they’re in the right, but they lost the public relations battle big time

when bad things happen to good people....i hope she can come out with her heart, soul and spirit intact. these kinds of things have a way of making people something/someone they aren't and while i will never wear a "hayley" dress (past all that now) i enjoy what she does for the people who love her dresses and designs----including me! she's part of what i've come to call "the fairy godmother team" for brides....as she helps make dreams come true too...i thought she worked/designed in "partnership" with klienfelds. have never heard of the other "company" associated with her name! hang in there hayley!!! didn't come/get this far for nothin'!!!! and in the end----IT'S YOUR TALENT!!! that got you where you are as a designer. didn't prince go thru something like this too for HIS music rights?...hang in there!!!

Many corporate contracts have non-competes and is why she is this situation. (Non-competes are not forever) JLM may have given her opportunities but her public persona also has helped created her success, as well as her creative talent. So, do you want to give your money to JLM, a company that is more concerned about their bottomline and think they are immune to any public backlash and treat their employees like crap? or, do you want to support designers with fair practices? boycotts can help force companies to make the right changes.

I agree with you, ethically, the accounts on social media, shouldn't ever be anything but the property of the person. JLM is ethically a real piece of work. They have long since recouped their investment. I won't purchase anything JLM now or in the future. There is nothing to stop JLM from continuing to be unethical in every phase of the industry. Don't trust JLM.

I think Hailey should continue under her another name I would never suggest anyone to buy Jayla contour gowns who could feel right about taking anyone's name. But you can tell she's not all there money hungry Jayla, Hailey you keep going do you your gowns and you I think your amazing.

She lost the court battle. She is going to change her name. But, JLM are now suing her fiancée personally for using her (birth) name and trying to sue her for defamation. 🙄

I believe that Hailey Page has a right to her name & brand. If they treat all of their designers this way pretty soon they won’t have any designers that want to work for them at all… And where is the encouragement for a designer to be actively present in this type of business if they cannot move on and take at least their name with them… She built the name, it was her designs and her own creative imagination that brought success in the first place... on the other hand she could have been unsuccessful and possibly had negative ramifications of her work with they have taken responsibility for that also? I don’t think so… Let her move on and let her take her name with her. If JLM wants to use her creations, then they need to be supportive of her!

I am not a lawyer either but despite legal craziness -I feel JLM is morally bankrupt and could do the right thing and they helped her build but they were her designs and her dresses that made that sold and the way you said that -they treat her -her person as a thing to be monetized-so isn’t that the same as modern market prostitution or market slavery, so to speak ?

I think JLM did her wrong and they did it in a horrible way they tore her down and now she is in a battle for her name rights and JLM is fighting her for it to where she will never be able to go back to doing what she loves doing and this is why so many other fashion artists have taken their own lives like Kate Spade and i hope and pray that they do not do the same to Randy Pnina or Lazaro or any of the other wonderful wedding dress designers or other fashion designers and artists

Takeaway… ALWAYS re and reread and have a lawyer or at least someone who knows legal jargon read it. I’m sure if she realised she would loose the rights to her own name forever she would never had signed with that clause. But once she gets a new name and designs under than, there will be no new designs from her under that name. There maybe ghost designers working under the brand name, but it won’t be the same. And if new designs start appearing under that name, we’ll we then know. And her true followers will know and it will get around the industry and I’m sure other companies will be hesitant in getting those dresses but hopefully will get in her new branded dresses and promote her under her new name. No more wedding dresses for this arsehole company from their beautiful designer.! They might own her name, but they can force her to design anything in the future unless it’s in the contract too.
