Bass fishing can get a little tricky during late summer and early fall. Understanding where the dead zones are on your lake will help you to locate bass quickly!

During late summer the water on your lake is going to stratify. When it does this, it will separate out into 3 different layers. Some of these layers are literally considered dead zones when it comes to bass fishing!
During the fall transition you will have a fall turnover. When this happens the the whole lake can feel dead at times, however, the great thing is that if you escape to 3 main areas, you will be able to continue catching bass!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

Went to high school with Ty, he’s the real deal! Been deep into bass fishing since he was a kid, like trailered the Javelin to school to make it to his tourneys after deep into it! So cool to see him getting traction like this on RU-vid. Dudes a stick, and a real good guy!

Great video, lots of great Intel. Thank you. Enjoying the channel very much sir. Your tips really help, definitely catching more and bigger bass. I fish the Mohawk river in upstate NY so the oxygen levels stay the same all year. This info helps when I am fishing lakes here. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

As usual awesome video and clearly the best I ever heard this explained. I struggle to catch Bass in the fall but thanks to you I have a better understanding of what happens. Do you have or can you make a video that better break this down for bank anglers as well the best baits for that situation. Once again thanks for breaking this down it will really help me be a better angler.

Bro this is a great video. I've been paying more attention to the thermocline this year and I've been catching more fish. It is usually pretty visible on my graph. I like there the thermocline intersections with a point of drop off, prime spot for me. The suspended thermocline fish in open water are tough to catch, haven't really figured that out yet. Again, great video.

Great video! I have one thing to point out though. In my studies about oxygen content in water it's taught me that colder water actually holds more oxygen than warm water does.
@Badkharma21
@Badkharma21 Год назад
bottom line. fish shallow, like during the spawn. the top of the lake never really loses its O2 content provided you are getting wind and waves. this keeps the upper layers suitable for fish. also, like you said grass and inflowing creeks supply dissolved 02. in new brunswick during fall we push up into the far reaches of creeks on the headponds here and they are choking with bait and bass. it is some of the best smallmouth fishing on the eastern seaboard.

Hey! Awesome video. I'm trying to grasp the concept of higher O2 concentrations in the epilimnion than in the lower colder temperatures/layers. Is it the water pH, contact with wind/air, and vegetation that make it more concentrated with O2? In other videos the concept that colder water holds more O2 and may be beneficial for the outcomes of catch and release fishing was explained and seems to be true. I'm going to do more research tonight but figured I'd see if anyone has insight. Thanks!

I'm torn about these info. I've followed this type of info for years. However, since having the livescope, my view has changed so much. For example: This entire month, we have been in the 100-109 degrees. Our water temp is 94-96 degree. thermocline being at 46 feet. However, livescope is showing suspended bass at 60-65ft. We been pulling fish at 60-70' all month long and still pulling them today...

Doesn't this also happen in the Spring? So I suppose the surface water temperature can get colder than the water on the bottom. As it warms and reaches the same temperature on the surface as the bottom temperature we get another turnover. Can you explain the difference if it is beyond this along with the relation to the location of the bass?

Question, do very shallow ponds, say 10-12 ft max depth, typically have all 3 layers of oxygenation?
@chrisaman982
@chrisaman982 2 года назад
It's possible, but less likely. Shallow bodies of water are more likely to be mixed by wind action.

If I go into a 10 ft deep creek. Will there be a thermocline in there as well?
@BassFishingHQ
@BassFishingHQ 2 года назад
Probably not. Creeks tend to have moving water, which stops a thermocline from forming

In ri lakes are 10 to 13' deep on average? Most under 10'. I did extend length on drop shot. Sept we use lot of creature baits. 2-4 ft crankbaits and some topwater or spinnerbaits. Sound good?

Remember the higher the water temp the less dissolved h²0 it can hold. Though not often but you can find some smaller bodys of water with 90+ water temps. When that happens the warmer water simply can't hold h²0.
