These bearings were taken from a RUNNING 2006 BMW E86 Z4M with 94,000 miles.
How lucky was this owner?!

It shows you the quality of BMW if you have to replace the bearings at 90thousand miles you have cars with over 200 thousand miles and don't need it done 😂

It’s the owners fault, he cheap out on oil changes, these vehicles are performance machines, driving hard, and still waiting to change oil at 5k mileage is not prohibited, plus the majority of bmw owners don’t use the correct oil, they get that Walmart cheap stuff, or they go to random cheap lube shops.

An occasional oil analysis would go a long way towards detecting bearing wear before it becomes critical. If someone can afford this vehicle they can afford an oil analysis once a year.

Use a Fully Synthetic 5w/50 instead of 10w/60 engine lubricant. Especially if you don't track/race your vehicle often and live in a cooler climate. Frequent oil/filter changes are absolutely essential for these 'M' cars. Always wait until oil is at the correct temps before spirited driving.

I wonder if the bearings are made to quality standards anymore?

With the condition of that number 3 with that crater will be ok to put new rod bearings without sending the crankshaft to the machine shop ?
@ladin425
@ladin425 4 месяца назад
I suspect something is wrong with that crank. Why would a lower bearing be in that condition?
@Suncoastrealestatemedia
@Suncoastrealestatemedia Месяц назад
Did the crankshaft need to be polished? Supposedly mine need replaced. They want to replace the whole engine in my Jeep for $12-15k. I’ve thought about just pulling the oil pan to check them.

Dude these crankshafts are amazing, my m54b30 was knocking because of bad reassembly whenever this motor was "overhauled"(by idiots) , and still the crankshaft looks relatively decent. I bought some precision measuring tools to see how much i can polish the crank. Bmw crankshafts are usually solid, the issues are with the rod bearings mainly.

Idk, guessing there could have been oil starvation and those are closest to the oil pump? Just a guess. Also usually these cylinders are a bit cooler than the rest.

Two factors here: one main is oscilation and flexing of 6cylinder crankshaft where bearings work hardest in the middle of it so cylinder 3, 4 and main bearings in the middle have the hardest life. Second is as someone mentioned 1st is the closest to oil pump.

Yes. I don’t think it’s as bad as e92 but I wouldn’t run them longer than 80,000 miles. Just not smart
@BreakStuffClub

It’s blown out of proportion. I have 169k on my s62, still on original bearings with no sign of abnormal wear. Not saying it doesn’t happen but mine has held up well thus far.

I'm surprised how badly worn these look. I have replaced them on my e46 m3 at a 175k and they were nowhere near as bad as these with much higher mileage. Wondering why that is.
@FIVECENTFISH
@FIVECENTFISH Год назад
a well maintained higher mileage car will always have better results than a neglected lower mileage. people never change their oil, and some just turn the key and start driving the second they turn it on.
@DAVEXR2007

@@FIVECENTFISH Frequent oil & filter changes are paramount with M engines. Also, oil warming to correct operating temps before hard driving is a key factor in preserving your engines too.
