This doesn't do anything besides make you feel better. The flap you see is the first of a pair. if you don't push the nozzle past the 2nd fuel just dumps on the ground because the gap is not sealed. The aftermarket cap is not keeping any additional dirt out of the fuel system.
If the dirt and debris gets down into that near the flap entrance, into the funnel so to speak, it never goes up and out. Eventually it would get pushed down to the second flap, and then past the second flap. Because this cap seals tight up on the rim, debris never has a chance to get down near the flap doors, therefore never gets pushed further down the nozzle.
