Emotions are entirely different from person to person, and they change from minute to minute. Using human emotions as a basis for design is like trying to build a house on a slippery slope. Digital Design for a specific market and a specific trend is much more progressive than designing user experience for human emotion.
I could be misunderstanding, but my take on what he is saying in this video is that we need to consider emotion as part of our design process. It may or may not be a huge consideration for the product or service we are designing, but in some cases, it may be wildly important. I design applications for business professionals. I see myself leaning towards creating applications that are functional, efficient, easy-to-use, etc. Some products such as certain types of clothes, shoes, jewelry, etc. likely should be designed based on trying to capture someone's emotions. Trends tend to be based on the fickle human experience and emotion, so I would see designing for specific trends to be somewhat similar to designing based on emotion. I am definitely open to everyone’s thoughts on the subject though. Each and every perspective helps us get closer to more effective products and services.
