Great call. I laugh to the point of tears every time he roasts someone. He's at a restaurant with a beautiful young date. Frank Sinatra and company are in the same place. DR's goes over to FS's table. "Frank, I've got a lovely young lady here tonight, I was wondering if you could come over and just say hello"?! FS, later in the evening visits the table to speak to the couple. "Hi Don, how's it going". "Frank, can't you see I'm eating"?! Gotcha Frank!
"Today we witness the marriage of the stammering idiot from Chicago.... with his hooker wife from Bayonne New Jersey. I almost dropped my pants and fired a rocket."
The ONLY guy in Hollywood that could tell Frank Sinatra to go stuff it and Frank would laugh and do whatever he wanted...Btw, when Frank Sinatra was asked to host the Reagan 2nd Inauguration party we just saw, he said I'll only do it if Rickles is in it...That's some serious support...
@@deftone366 That was not the correspondence dinner that was the innauguration. As far the dinner is concerned have you watched it lately? It's not the same, it's full of personal attacks, vicious in some cases and you can thank Trump and Hilary for that because the one in 2016 started the vitriol.
What a great comedian legend! This is great to see. Thanks so much for posting! I thought he would cry when he was talking to Martin. I love these old comedians because back then, it was all joking. No one took the comments seriously. It was comedy! It was teasing! It was great!
I remember watching Don on Carson, he always cracked me up, even as kid. I wish that I had seen him live. Don and Bob Newhart's very close friendship seems very odd considering how outgoing one is and how mellow the other. But they loved each other like brothers, traveled the world together with their families. RIP Don and Bob.
When Don said he had Clint over a barrel he wasn't kidding. Clint was a busy man while shooting in Yugoslavia. His mistress arrived with him when the shoot began, then she left and his wife arrived later that day. After a week his wife left, and he took up with a local. There are some rough cuts on YT of Don ripping into Clint on the set and making him laugh. Don Rickles was unique because he had the inside story on lots of guys in Hollywood and TV and never spilled a bean on them. He was just too nice a guy.
Am I the only that thinks he had a certain "it" that huge stars have where they make you somehow fell like you're the REAL fan and everyone else doesn't really really see the special something you do. I know v that sounds weird and it's hard to describe. It's like you forget they're huge stars!!! Like epic stars. I feel a little scared or worried for him. But also he's in complete control! Like a verbal acrobat! Same with like Julia.... Like she's a combo of an awkward nerd and model so you almost feel like you're the only one who noticed how beautiful she is. If anyone understand this or can back me up... It's uncanny to me so maybe someone else can explain it better!
On a talk show that didnt last , the son of a NY godfather 8:21 wrote a book on his life after his father tried to whack him . He went to Vietnam as opposed to Al Pacinos character in The Godfather who went to Korea . The book is allegedly about this family . Anyways after he came back from Nam he went to work for his dad . The family went to Vegas to expand . Don Rickles was opening for Frank Sinatra . The Godfather shows up and when Rickles is doing his act he targets the godfather with his warmth . He really goes to town with the insults and pisses off his dad . He tells his son " I want him dead . " His son explained it to him they cant .
