Oh... my.... God... this is stuff you'll never see today on network television. He's chewing the carpet up, wrecking the place! He's making fun of black people, white people, Jews... everything. This man is a national treasure... a real American.
I think my favourite part about Don is how many people don't realize he's a voice of your childhood. He was Mr. Warmth for a lot of people but he will always be mr potato head to me.
"Where do you go to the beach out here? "its been about 15 years" this not an interview, just asked a question and the kid did 20 minutes on how he got started. "
Don Rickles was the best. Saw him at the Stardust in either 07 or 08. During his routine he sat right next to my wife, looked at me and said, "The pictures are that bad"? One of the highlights of my life.
Hiram Bullock, a class act of the highest order, I saw him with his band performing in the 90s. Awesome guitarists and singer, and, like Don Rickles himself, Hiram Bullock was a genuinely nice and funny man in his own right. R.I.P. both of them legends. Thank you very much for posting.
Redlinesixtynine don was the last of that great generation of entertainers, shame he’s gone but Frank, Dean and Sammy Davis have got there old buddy back now!
To see Dave with Don in '83 and all the way up to 2013 he had total love and respect for the man he just sat back and let Don rip in to him better times. At the tribute to Don at the Apollo when Dave comes on at the end Don lit up like a firefly 2 beautiful men real men RIP Mr.Warmth
One of the most compelling inteviews of all time. One of my fav Don Rickles moments ever and also see Lettermans face at the end when Don should genuine interest in Daves success and longevity. This my friends in my opnion was Don is rare perfection mode. I mean hes always 99% but this was start to finish sharp and his brain firing furiously on all cylinders. Really special. Loved it.
Letterman was ALWAYS the closest thing to Carson. He will always be remembered as the last old school host. None of the new hosts have anything special.
I sure miss Rickles. And Dave. Rickles lashes out at a black guy in the band and you think "Whoa, that's racist.." then he turns to Letterman and eviscerates him ten-fold with an equally funny brutality and you think "Whoa, the black guy got off easy." Rickles was a machine gun spraying insults every which way. But the truth is Rickles was one of the kindest people in show business.
@@Salieri21 you're dead wrong. He actually does. Maybe not in this segment but many, many times he made fun of Letterman's whiteness by calling him "Indiana Wonderbread" or just "Wonderbread" and telling him he can't be a Jew because when he takes a shower his body is "cream white." He spared nobody.
He was, he made sure everyone was aware of their disabilities, shortcomings, failures, ethnicity, religion, creed, sexuality, age, financial status, status, political affiliations, loneliness, mistakes, foibles, infatuation, epistemological........
@@paddle_shift His going for the black guy in the band is plain unfunny though. Dumb negative stereotypes, crime, the harmonica?, I don't understand that, but the tone is racist. 'them the breaks'? fuck off.
Great appearance of Don! After hearing about his death I had to watch him roast Frank Sinatra! Also him with Howard Stern on David Letterman show, and also Don on Howard Stern's Show! Don is doing a great show up in 😇heaven😇 now I bet! R.I.P. Don!
For some of you commenting below, Rickles joked about everyone. It didn't matter what color you were , who you were or where you came from. Rickles point was we re all here to laugh and bigots were the biggest idiots of them all. Rickles was one of the best comics ever. His ability to just think on his feet is legendary.
@@harpoon_bakery162 Don't be so soft. The great thing about Don is that he made fun of everybody no matter their race, gender, religion or country.Unlike modern leftists,he didn't discriminate between anybody when it came to making fun of them as he treated everybody equally by equally insulting him.
@@cosmicwanderer891 i appreciate his humor. I guess it was cutting edge for his time. I suppose they weren't offended but since I wasn't there, I could not really know. I just remember seeing those roasts and every once in a while there were negative ohh, and aw's and disgruntled sounds but the people he was ribbing were laughing but at times you could tell it was a fake laugh.
@@christopherporter2459 Cause it is important to know why it is no longer like this. And obviously leftist ideology is to blame ( called Democrats or Liberals in the US.).
They laughed at blacks and blacks laughed along, they couldn't do much at that time. Now, when blacks are fed up, white people are complaining how come we can't insult blacks anymore. I am European white and not American, thank God!
He stretched a bit here. he's always searching for common ground with someone he is not particularly familiar with and he does an amazing job, when he finds it, he blossoms. The start of a great friendship.
No one quicker than Rickles. Back then you circled the TV guide when he was scheduled to be on any show. He was like Mickey Mantle. You had to tune in when he was up. In his prime, un-f*cking-touchable! Facts.
I think Dave during the intro was apprehensive about being on the receiving end of Don's legendary bite but by the end was won over to begin the long relationship they would have.
1983 when nobody got offended at all...fast forward 2021....let’s not even go there.🤔Don Rickles, Dean Martin with The Rat Pack, Robin Williams.....too many LEGENDS to name....Rest in Peace...beautiful Soul.💔How young David Letterman & Paul from the Band were here.
I've seen a lot of clips since Don's passing and this is one of the best. Some great lines. "I married a valium," and one in response to David (can't remember the set up) that didn't skip a beat, "Yeah because you're my life." (You have to see it within the context of the show.)
I love Don’s jokes but one of my favourite things about him is when he gets earnest at the end of an interview, they don’t call him mr warmth for nothing
