There's just nothing like Johnny Carson and these characters anymore! 48 years old and I still remember staying up late to watch Johnny with my mom. Just such good times!
Nail it. I've been watching Jonathan winters, probably one of the most humblest. Also Robin williams. May they all rest in peace. If you haven't been seeing any of them guys you need to check it out it's amazing
My, I was in High School when this aired. It brings back great memories! What talent graced our Television sets in those wonderful days. Johnny was and will always be the best TV Talk Show host! What I miss is seeing actors and celebrities who are very well spoken like Michael Landon. It is sobering to know that all these wonderful men have passed on. I miss them all!
There are countless celebrities today who are interesting and well-spoken. But if you have it in your head that it's a thing of the past, you're going to count all the wins and dismiss all the misses. Watch the Graham Norton show. You get tons of class from a ton of people.
I've literally watched this five times straight no script no beforehand 'what we gonna talk about' just pure intelligent conversation with old school sharp humour fantastic
“We need to laugh at ourselves” God damn I wish more people would watch don rickles cause he was such a great comedian that made millions of people laugh for decades! Nowadays people are so easily offended that’s why the world is in the shape it’s in
Loved Johnny Carson. He never rushed his guest, they all sat there and talked like they were hanging out. These days the talk show host rushes the guest thru a five minute segment and its usually only to promote their nee book or movie.
I never realised Mike Landon was such a funny guy. Man he was handsome, my grandmother liked him and Blue Boy from the High Chapperell, im 62 now and those shows were when i was a kid in the 60's. RIP to all on stage.
I enjoy seeing how Johnny Carson, Don Rickles, and Michael Landon were comfortable enough in their own skin to rib each other and laugh at themselves, unlike today, where nearly everyone is getting offended or canceled.
I miss Johnny Carson, He was and still is the best late night host I've ever seen and I love & appreciate having the ability to watch these classics now!🤣🤣🤣❤
Thank God I came to this time machine this morning. Oh how times changed, so much more innocent fun back then. The humor of Rickles is the best. Wish these time machines were a permanent stay at times but back to reality.
The BEST EVER!! Johnny Carson and his GREAT Guests!!! Just good humour and conversation, no dreadful.politics et al!! So wonderful to see these wonderful Gentlemen having a good laugh together! I will always love watching Johnny Carson's Shows especially with the hilarious and great late(so sad) Michael Landon and others!!!
This is a commentary section about Jonny Carson and Don Rickles. I know Jesus Christ is the son of God but what does religion have to do with this show?
Johnny Carson was an all-time great he's irreplaceable. He is the one talk show host that had class. He shows were funny a lot of people watched his show. Johnny Carson was the real deal will be forever missed even as a teenager I watched him remarkable man brilliant!
The genius of Carson was that he let Rickles and Dangerfield go wherever they wanted to go. He didn't interrupt. He didn't try to direct what was going on. He just went along for the ride like the rest of the audience and viewers. And it is irreplaceable.
I couldn't understand Johnny back in 1972. Once I learn English in 9 months what a joy to finally laugh and enjoy his show. He was my inspiration to inmerse my self fully in English. He will live forever
Amazing how Michael Landon was already a legend at that point and the world had yet to see what would further come out in the production line from him. Only one can wonder if he had lives through the 90s and 2000s what he would've been able to create.
Rickles was killing it! I'm 56 yrs old, and in this era it was known as racial stereotypes. Not racism. He made fun of everyone including himself. There was no malice intendid. It was brutal but not mean. We really need to not take ourselves so serious. Sad.
Don Rickles was a fantastic comedian and actor. He was a wonderful man and did not have a cruel bone in his body. He was one of the first to show it's ok to laugh at yourself .
@aspenrebel - true, ,so true... Big Joe: What kind of deal? Crapgame: A deal, deal! Maybe he's a Republican. You know, "Business is business." OR Crapgame : [into field phone] Hogan? Yeah, it's me. Listen... I gotta favor to ask ya. Will you quit cryin... I haven't even asked ya yet! What the Hell's the matter with you? All so good, all so perfect. A good comedian, and a good actor too.
Never knew that Michael Landon was that witty and sharp tongued and what a chemistry he has with Don! I hope your pencil has a rupture brilliant. And this is what I call a handsome man.
@@BigLee93 No, he was quoting from the Carson episode, when it WAS a new show just starting. Obviously now it's a very old show, thus making the OP feel very old.
Good talent and comedic talent has slowly died and we will never see great talent from the past again! Thank you for recording these shows so we have something good to watch ! Loved them all and it was worth staying up for every night and the ones today could learn a lot from these people!
Thank you for this. For 25 minutes and 23 seconds, I was transported back in time to an era when television was actually very enjoyable, with giants like Carson, Landon, Rickles, and McMahon just relaxing and having fun, along with millions of viewers. Today, a one-hour TV show is 35 minutes of the actual crappy program, and 25 minutes of stupid commercials.
Those were awesome times with only one TV and the whole family would watch rather than everyone running to their own rooms to watch. whatever they wanted. Of course Johnny was on late at night so kids would have already been in bed but I remember us gathering for Carol Burnett, Red Skelton, Jackie Gleason . And. Ed Sullivan on Sunday. Wonderful memories of days long gone.
These days were great, R.I.P. to all of them. Man those were the days. Pure comedy no one got offended at anything. Today you can’t say boo without saying sorry.
I saw Don Rickles in person in Lake Tahoe about 35 years ago. He made fun of everybody, and he was funny. Today, he wouldn`t be able to get a booking, because he was not PC.
This is an example of a great interview of a bygone era. The banter of Michael Landon, Don Rickles, and Johnny Carson was 😂🤣. When Landon says what a fine actor Rickles actually is and Carson responds, "You can tell from the reaction people feel the same way." Johnny was a true magician of an interviewer being able to facilitate fun discussions with different personalities. They're all so relaxed.
Rickles used that audience reaction (or lack thereof) gag on many occasions. Carson zinged Rickles with Rickles own gag, and Rickles loved it. Johnny had many well timed zingers in his pocket, and that was one of them.
I was born in 1969 and grew up on Carson, watching with my parents. Even as a young child, when I knew Rickles was on the show, I was just glued to the TV; even with a lot of his material going over my head. He was such an amazing performer.
My dad and I would stay up late just to watch this. It’s so nice to watch this . This brings back some wonderful memories. I don’t think this can ever be duplicated.
Now tell me.... How can you not like this? These guys were classics and legends in their own time. We didn't need electricity back then....these guys could light up a room .
Light hearted teasing, everyone got the joke...no political talk, no bashing of political figure..just pure entertainment. Miss those days. Michael Landon was a genius in his field, my kids grew up watching his shows. We owe him a debt of gratitude.
Like Rickles said, "Learn to laugh at ourselves". As someone that got picked on quite a bit in school, I learned this independent of Mr. Rickles' or Mr. Chappelle, two inspirational comedians/actors that helped me confirm what I thought I knew. If you learn to laugh at yourself, and make jokes about your own "quirks", it not only takes away the "fun" from the potential jerk/bully, but it helps them (that really are normally insecure themselves, not some afterschool special nonsense, based on actual experiences) open up/relax, as well as others. As people become more acquainted/comfortable, then the jokes about others come into play, but all in the sense of fun/sharing our own "issues", just in a bass-ackwards sort of way.
Michael Landon was absolutely amazing and I agree with you that we do owe him, what a generous man he was and what great lessons he tried to pass on,anyway take care regards Scott
I’m with you on the nostalgic sentiment 110%. Regarding your comments about, “everyone getting the joke; no political talk; no bashing of political figures” however, I once thought the same as you said But the more I’ve watched these vintage-era Carson and Letterman archives as an adult, I’ve come to the conclusion that both shows-especially Letterman-had plenty of “cringe”, “confrontational, and “political bashing” comedy. The difference is that a considerable portion of the performers were lifelong professionals capable of utilizing a seemingly effortless and masterfully deft genius, they could hide their more ‘edgy’-for lack of a better term-comedy underneath an unstoppable, lightning-fast stampeding barrage of ‘mass-appeal’ comedy that made me laugh so much and so loud, all their ‘edgy’ stuff went clear over my head as a kid. But it’s definitely there-especially on Letterman-and you can find it You just have to avoid asphyxiating from laughing at the oceanic volume of “surface level” jokes on the way down 🥳
Michael Landon is very quick witted and hilarious here. I love Don Rickles very much. Television at its best. Used to go to bed watching Johnny every night back in the day. 62yo now. Thanks for the upload.
I am 61 myself, I use to do th same thing. In the 70's I was in high school, I had to go to bed a watch the tonight show. My mom thought I was sleeping... I had a small t.v. in my room. I have serval thing I have to admit the Tonight Show play in in my life...2of them first decided I really like John Denver music one night . 2nd the classic clip that is still on RU-vid of when Dean Martin surprised Johnny one night ... It was Bob Hope , Dean Martin, George Global. From that night I fall in love with Dean Martin, i would go to bed early on Thursday just to watch Dean's show.... T.v. in kids room not really good idea but I am sure glad I had one so I could enjoy The Tonight Show 😊😊😊
Used to watch the monologue before crashing every night but when Rickles was guest hosting, you weren’t getting that much sleep. Listen to Don Rickles ‘ Hello Dummy ‘ record from 1960s Vegas act. It’s way too much
Bob J me too....life was simpler and entertainment was classic.... Now we are not allowed to leave our homes and we’re waiting for a virus to disappear 😷... Sad.....
Man, I miss these guys! Some of the best, honest, most spontaneous live television ever! Carson was a master at his craft, as was Rickles! I was 28 when this show aired, and I remember it like yesterday. Great days!
Back in the day when they understood that life is hard enough already and people needed entertainment to cheer up, not to discuss political correctness or identity politics.
Me too. I've scrounged all over RU-vid looking for Rickles clips and this is one of my favorites. But this episode also caused me to now binge Bonanza episodes as well.
Think I’ve seen all of Don’s interviews with Carson but this is my favourite, Don was on top form in this interview and generally at this time in his career, the interplay between him, Michael and Johnny is fantastic to watch. RIP all 3 and Ed!
Never fell for that staying up late for talk shows, maybe a few when I couldn't sleep, but not deliberately. Same with Saturday night live ,that was an hour or hour and a half shows with only 2 or 3 good skits.
Johnny Carson sucks. Broke the first rule of stand-up comedy… Never laugh at your own jokes. And that whole golf swing shit… He did that a lot at the end. Because his jokes didn't hit. He was too freaking old and should've listened to his writers instead of overruling them. Letterman did the same thing at the end. Steve Colbert would do well to avoid political humor and just concentrate on humor like he did on the Dana Carvey show
@@trekkiejunk Ehhh, honestly though I've been analyzing the actors/comedians of this generation. They are all acting in accordance to politics and the ones who don't, get squished.
@@trekkiejunk exactly modern actors musicians are just average untalented people, everything they make is rubbish infact its worse than rubbish its poison
@@trekkiejunk Nope. Talk shows now are nothing but liberal political propaganda. And actors sit there like robots and promote their next film. All pre-planned questions. No one interacts like this anymore.
This clip is over 40 years old and seems new and fresh. That is so crazy, especially knowing that every person on this show is now deceased. WOW! Where does the time go.
This is just Gold, One of my favorite episodes. Rickles was at the pinnacle of his career. Landon was amazing, he just put Rickles in his place. So much chemistry here. Watch the facial expressions on Rickles as Landon answered.
and in many instances , less apologetically , when set along side his performance in this clip which features a surprising number of disclaimers and sermons issued by Rickles before and after his "zingers". However, Rickles was granted special dispensation by the hypersensitive powers-that-be and their brain-dead disciples in his later years and wasn't 'called out'/taken to task over or criticized re: remarks or attitudes he expressed that had any other person today been a party to - they'd have been crucified.
There is literally no one that was or is more entertaining on late night shows than Mr. Don Rickles. He is the epitome of laughter at its peak quality. I am so thankful to have found RU-vid clips that show cases his acumen, for being 25 years of age, was unable to see him live. Rip Don, you simply are the greatest most respectful entertainer that will ever live. Thank you.
Wow..the 3 of them played so well off each other..great tv..unlike the utter shite that we have to endure now where the host wants to be the star ..rip gents
I do . I’m glad you can too , don’t think we’re all in shambles the world would appreciate this stuff if they only could let go a little and give themselves a piece of they’re own mind . Lovely comment and thank god we all can delight in this wonderful corner in time .
Same here I would stay up from late 1960 Thur high school in 1975, realize what real talent was. Now days can't stand t.v shows. I just watch RU-vid for my entertainment.
supergolfdude so true. It’s March 2020 and we’re stuck hiding in our homes because a virus is holding the world hostage. Can’t listen to another minute of the news. Came here for a very needed laugh! It helped!
Me too love them all... glad to say that Doc is living up here in his homtate of Oregon and still performing at 91 . He made Oregon proud to have someone like him b put us on the map.
