Thats why when black girls stare at me in the eyes now I feel a little defensive. I've had women tell me to smile. I'm never offended. Being told to smile has been a mix of just checking to see if I was having a bad day or even explicitly stated that I'm 'too handsome to be walking around "frowning"'. It's simple to respond to. Smile, say thank you, ask her how her day has been, if you're feeling bold tell her "Well, now that I have a good reason to smile. . . " then smile at her & so on- conversation ensues- it doesn't have to go anywhere. I think women's beef is that they don't think the men asking for smiles are attractive. Or, they just have poor manners & don't know how to talk to people so they walk around with the perma-frown & rage if someone speaks to them. I do understand the prospects of leading someone on becoming a burden, but "smile" isn't asking for your number. It may lead to that. You should know how to turn a man down without being a witch by now. Ladies, if you think a man looks like he might be about something & you don't want to waste time hoping he catches subtle clues & missing out on him as a possible love interest- go ahead & try the "Smile" line yourself. If he's with it, he'll take it from there. Just be ready to banter back & forth a little.

I used to be like this. I was the sweetest girl ever but nobody would ever know that because I would constantly be in my thoughts & walk around with a frown. I used to hate when people told me to smile especially men but as I started to get closer to God and become more feminine I started smiling more. One time I was in the mall & a security guard told me to smile . I wasn’t smiling because my feet were hurting from walking all day but I put on the biggest smile and showed him and he smiled at me & I realized how cute he actually was but then I ran off😭😭 I try to smile at everyone now when I’m out even though I’m really shy. It doesn’t hurt to smile girlies!

I’m sorry but I’ve been asked by a random man before to “Smile for me.” And I in fact didn’t smile for him and kept it going. Now, I’ve had a man say to me “you look too beautiful, To Not be smiling.” Now that line in fact made me smile and persuaded me enough to stop and get to know the guy. I think the way a man says this can make a huge difference in how receptive a woman is to it.😊

Men don’t understand what it’s like to navigate the world as a young woman. When a man says something like “smile beautiful” to a young woman in public, if she responds by smiling 9/10 times the men take that as the door opener to further interaction. They will change course and start walking with her, asking her name, asking for her number, is she single? Now she’s in the position of having to get him to leave her alone and far too many react with anger when it ends up going that way instead of what they were hoping for. Men take eye contact and smiles as an invitation. Every single female reading this can relate. Happens all our lives until we get too old to want anymore.

Part of being feminine is having a light and pleasant personality when out in public. For example when a man holds the door for me walking into the post office I always smile at him and say thanks 😊. Or I guess you could just keep headphones in 24/7 and act like you can’t hear anyone. We all need to do our part to be nice to others. Sometimes you can brighten up someone’s day by giving them a smile. It certainly doesn’t cost you anything but you’re just putting a little kindness out into the world.
