Big was always punishing Carrie for his own poor life decisions. He couldn't introduce her to his mom because he'd already introduced her to so many girlfriends. He can't give her a key because he's given out so many keys already. She couldn't have her big dream wedding because he'd already been married twice. We don't talk enough about all of the emotional baggage older men have and how they use it as an excuse to only give the bare minimum.

I’ve just had an epiphany!! Based on the looks of Mr Big’s first wife Barbara, his second wife Natasha, and the woman he was checking out in the clip, Charlotte would have actually be much more his type than Carrie ever was!! Park-avenue girl with a classic style, brown hair, pearl necklace and from a traditional family

It seems that the only reason you would accept breadcrumbs is if you see the guy as someone levels above you lookswise or wealthwise. If you consider him an equal you would never accept breadcrumbs.
@insightsbyv

Totally agree.
@mariarusek1851
@mariarusek1851 4 месяца назад
But the "problem" is most if not all women are hypergamous that means we choose men who in fact are wealthier and more good looking - especially in today's day and age. If a woman considers a man as an equal, she ofthen wouldn't date him. For example Carrie wouldn't date mr Big if he wasn't successful or good looking or if he would always conform to her will. I think, in order not to accept breadcrums, we need to recognize our value and know with certainty where its' foundations lie, instead of thinking that we're equal to somebody. Thinking of yourself as an equal to somebody needs you to compare yourself to others and then decide if you are lesser, greater or equal. I think a truly confident person doesn't do that. Moreover it needs you to know what equality really means.
@hipnhappenin
@hipnhappenin 4 месяца назад
Mmm not always. I accepted breadcrumbs from a guy who was mid lookswise and who I for sure made more money than. I put him on a pedestal for the sole fact that I wanted a relationship with him and he didn't want one with me. So I felt I had to earn his love.
@missmatti
@missmatti 4 месяца назад
One thing to add to this is that it doesn’t always mean objectively better (looking, successful etc) than you but it’s what you PERCEIVE as better than you e.g. “omg I can’t believe this person pays me attention”. Once you know you have self worth you will stop accepting breadcrumbs. Also it is very helpful to stop viewing people as better/worse than you (vertical relationships), and instead view them as equals (horizontal relationships) as described in the book “the courage to be disliked”.
@danielapardo9776
@danielapardo9776 4 месяца назад
For me it was not money nor looks, he was very smart. I didn't consider myself as cultured, connected (networking), or intelligent enough to be an "equal" to him, or to make it in my career. To me he was leagues above me and kept accpeting the bare minimum and sometimes even less. In the end, I just accepted the fact that I wasn't what he actually wanted but my most authentic self. It's not that he was too good for me, is just thst weren't a match. Everyone has strenghts and weaknesses. We just have to work through it. I think that if I kept going to him I would have perpetually felt less than him, which would have prevented me from focusing on myself and growing. I think our goal has to be growth in any problem we face.

I hate how sometimes they sell Samantha like this open minded person and then she says things like that, that are more misogynistic than anything. She sometimes acts like men are stupid and just for sex and other times she herself acts like she has to be like men even if she caught feelings. She often deny herself and feel shame at the very little critique from men

she was very naivee but he was just weird and uses her. Sometimes she was a friend for him,sometimes girlfriend...he was bored with his life and has space to mess with others. In the beginning he was simple 'I dont want to be in relationship' and its a shame she wouldnt listen. In later seasons he just played with her feelings. And she played with Aiden's feelings.

I love discussing big and carrie's relationship with my friends, overanalyze everything, work out motives and underlying problems and all that, but honestly at the end of the day the truth is that he just does not give a shit. Not about carrie, not about her feelings, not about how she sees him, not about if she respects him or not. The man could not care less. He hurts her constantly not because he wants to be mean, but because he simply does not think of her. He does what he wants and if she happens to be happy about it then he'll reap the benefits, but if she's upset he'll take none of the responsability. Men who hurt you constantly may not be trying to be mean on purpose, they do not care about you, they do not see you. And honestly that's worse.

The fact that Carrie kept being in love with Big shows how immature she was. These are the kind of relationships you grow out of in your 20s, when you realize you don't care for toxicity, but being loved and building something real with someone who takes you seriously. I know some women take a longer time to get there, and some never arrive there at all, but Carrie willingly gave up a perfectly healthy relationship with Aidan in order to go back to toxic Big. Eh why?? My ass woulda sent him off a long time ago. You don't want me don't waste my time

I’m loving your Carrie & Big series! Rewatching this show in my late twenties I have a whole new perspective of just how toxic these two were. Big is constantly evading the tough conversations, belittling Carrie (from her column to her friends to her interests) and although Carrie acts out in immature ways it’s usually Big driving her to it by being so inconsistent.

I just finished the first 3 parts yesterday and has been checking for the new part. I'm looking forward to it, I am rediscovering the show. I always felt like Big was just content spending time with her and having low key fun, and she was always trying to define the relationship and take things in a serious direction. They just wanted different things - he wasn't leading her on, he communicated through his actions SO MANY TIMES that he was not interested in having a long term committed relationship. In the end, she finally gets him to give in, but really she should have cut this off and found someone with the same partner goals. I don't fault him, because SHE is always cornering him into being what SHE wants and what SHE needs. Behavior is a language - she never got the memo, though.
@misseskimo1
@misseskimo1 3 дня назад
Totally, but also the gaslighting he puts her through is pretty intense. He avoids questions and dances around the issues, he knows what he's doing to keep her on the hook. She shouldn't still be falling for it, but people can be so manipulative, that's how abusive relationships happen.

It's really sad that you think that way. Men are unfortunately socialised to get away with a lot of things that women do not, and are even encouraged to oversexualize women constantly. It's not inherent or a part of nature, it's just cultural and something that should be called out and questioned. Women like you, who say "just accept it" are complicit in this problem unfortunately. Also, where does it end, with this line of thinking? Do you also blame rape-victims, or ask them what they were wearing, or if they were drunk? Do you teach young girls to cover up more, so that the boys in class don't get distracted? Men are not stupid animals with zero restraint, they can choose to behave appropriately or not. And a lot of good men are 100% monogamous, with no interest in looking elsewhere.

Big is not new. He’s a 40 year old man. He knows that checking out other women in such an obvious way right in front of his girlfriend isn’t cool. Absolutely all of this stuff comes from not being sble to find wellbeing within ourselves, snd looking for love in the wrong places: someone who doesn't give love because he doesn't have it, he doesnt get it. When we feel good within ourselves we naturally socialize with people who are the same, and therefore kinder. We lesve situations that are less than good quicker. I truly used to believe I had to do a lot to be worthy, all because I felt horrible. Now that I feel better and i have healthy friendships, i finslly know that I'll neet a kind man who wants to be happy together, because i feel comfortable in life. Gosh things really can get better!!! Never balme yourself for your past or dwell on bad memories, now we feel better & know better ❤

Speaking of big not wanting to hang out with Carrie’s friends. I loved how he went from this to surprising Carrie with her friends at their second wedding at the end. This is where he grew a bit. He went from not wanting to meet Carrie’s friends to knowing how important they are to her and have them be with her on their special day. Did it take him too long? Yes. Was it bare minimum? Yes. I still thought it was a cute moment though.

It was cute indeed! ❤ To me it shows that he really hasn’t changed a bit. He jilted her at the altar which is way worse than not coming to have diner with her friends . And it was for the same reason: he couldn’t make a compromise for only one day and give her what would make her happy. At the end of the movie, he gets exactly what HE wanted ( a small wedding in court) and she compromised again ( after having been humiliated in public) and she’s soooooo happy because he invited her girlfriends. Yep. Again. Bare minimum. Breadcrumbs. 😢

My partner and I are both bi, so we like to look at attractive people together. But that's what it always is, something we share. We see someone attractive, we point them out and we can engage with that together. I personally don't think there is anything wrong with acknowledging that other people are attractive, but Big's stares are complete disrespectful. He stares at other women purely for his own satisfaction with no regard for the woman he is with, and its so gross.

I disagree that "its good that Carrie finally told Big what's bothering her." She DIDN'T tell him, and this led to her EXPLODING and PUNCHING HIM IN THE FACE. Then she had no choice to "explain" herself. She busted his nose/ gave him a black eye. That's not a "little smack." I think it's called abuse. I would say the same about her throwing food across the room.

I can’t express how grateful am for these videos. Am seeing how relationship I’ve had is so unhealthy and realising I’ve done so many of these things and it’s so clarifying why can’t go back. Thank you

This show made 30 year old women think it was completely acceptable if not desirable to have an emotionally unavailable man. Despicable. This series is great!!!👍

I don't remember if they were serious at this point. Yes he called her his girlfriend but I don't think he meant it.

Big manipulates Carrie with her severe daddy issues. Neither is a good person, but he is crummy goblin wanting to horde petty treasures for his own convenience.

Yeah super red flag if he doesn't want to know your friends. I mean it takes time but they've been together long enough and he totally dismisses her...

When people say they don't know, could it mean they don't know the person that we'll yet and they just feel spark and chemistry? S.g. there is banter.I imagine in such cases it's not a sign of potential toxic relationship. Of course, this has nothing to do with Carrie, I am just rambling. 😀

I just love your commentary and analysis, you are SO spot on, you should be a relationship coah! I never gave much thought to Carrie but my gosh she was so pathetic and insufferable. She really let Big walk all over her until he got old and tired and married her. I think Big is awful, he's so selfish and careless, but I am more mad at Carrie for letting it happen for so long because she refused to accept reality.

If he loves you, he won’t disrespect you, he won’t do anything to jeopardize the relationship or hurt you and risk you leaving, if he looks at other girls in front of you he doesn’t value or love you. Love is special lust is not.
