I put a switch in the abs circuit. You will get an error message on your screen, but this will help you remember that you have to set it back on the road.
On my first ride home from the dealer a rock hit my radiator, drained all the fluid and I stopped before it overheated! Crazy unlucky. I've since had the bike back and put a radiator guard on, would strongly recommend this upgrade for everyone.. Great bike though.
Good pointers. I think the most important thing would be a switchable rear ABS, and gear shift pedal....and an engine guard to cover the oil filter at least.. If the 21-inch front wheel is a necessity, then the V Strom DE would solve that problem. The handlebar risers and radiator guards can be fixed by aftermarket items though it's at a cost. They should have put at least a simple cover. I just ordered the 2021 V Strom XT Adventure (black) and hoping it will satisfying to ride and own.
Heish, that gear lever is really really reaaaally short! Or are those 58 sized boots? :D Great video as always! Im working on a Norden review (hopefully coming out this saturday) and im gonna mention your comparisson video (norden vs 890 adv vs 890 adv R)...great job there!
I guess the first thing to concider is to ask if this really is an offroad bike? Basically it’s a street bike with a slightly longer suspension. There’s loads of more practical offroad bikes than the V-Strom.
Yeah, that is very true. It is being marketed as an adventure bike here but the design is definitely for the highway. I was still surprised at how well it rides on gravel roads
The ABS cannot be turned off by a switch or setting, but there trick. This trick shows you how you can disable the ABS by fooling the system. Restarting your engine turns the ABS on again. Traction Control must be turned off (The TC light must be ON) Steps to take 1. Start the bike and move it a bit so the ABS light goes OFF 2. Put the bike on the central stand and make sure the rear wheel can spin (without moving the bike) 3. Grab and hold the front brake, while spinning up the rear wheel by switching from gear 1 to higher gears (up to 4) 4. If the ABS light turns ON (together with an icon), the system is fooled and ABS is disabled NB. You need to re-do these steps if you turn off the engine.
You could just wire a toggle switch to the appropriate fuse(s) from the fuse box. May still require restarting then bike, but you can bypass all that silliness of center stand and confusing the modules.
Maybe you can solve point one with footpegs from SW-Motech, they are with eccentric mount and you get more space and they are not slippery- but expensive.
These (very decent) bikes were (are?) well known to have clutch basket deterioration, I was just dealing with it yesterday. Suzuki tried to patch up the issue with some tweaks and changing a few part numbers. Anyone out there with a new model, and plenty of use, know if the problem still exists?
