So I was in the market for an X-e4 as the x100v was no where to be found (well at a normal price at least) and I liked to have the interchangeable lens capability. I looked around and found an add for an x-e4 with the 27mm mark II lens for a normal price. I drove down there to pick up the camera and check the lens and when I got there I got a heartbreaking story. The owner was a 50 year old man who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor which was impairing his vision (amongst other things). He proudly showed me his pictures he had made in the past 20 years, His wife had bundled some of his best pictures in a photo book she had printed for him and they were great. He told me he used to own an olympus penf film cmera and got into digital with the first x-e1 and had stayed there ever since. He showed me his camera and lens collection, there was an X-e1 with the 18mm F2.0, and X-e2 with the XF 18-50 and an X-e3 with a 23mm F2.0 tucked away behind these camera was an x100F and a 16-50 XC lens, both of which he said he didn;t like very much. As we talked I bought the x-e4 from him and we kept in touch through instagram where he looked at my pictures and commented and I saw that there weren't any new photo's being uploaded from his side. Then it was quiet for a few months, and I figured he was busy with his treatments. Until his wife sent me an email a few weeks ago, informing me that he had died. I didn't really know him very well, but I decided to go to the funeral, because I guess I felt like I had bonded with him. I knew none of the people that were there, but when I sat down for the service a lot of people that passed me nodded to me, like they knew me. When the service was done and we gathered to give our condoleances His wife told me that when he was in the hospital he was always looking at my pictures and he was telling everyone what he liked about my pictures and that they were taken by me with a camera he had sold me. He was so happy seeing the people cheer up from that, and she thanked me for it. When she told me that, I got choked up and teared up a bit, but I didn't know what to say, so I just thanked her and went home. A week later I got a notice to pick up a parcel at my local post office. I hadn't ordered anything, so I wasn't expecting anything. I had no idea (although you probably have, because.. story). I got to the post office and the parcel that was waiting for me was a huge box and when I got home I opened this box. The first thing I saw when I opened it was this beautifully printed book with the old man's pictures and then I saw why this box was so big. He had kept all the original boxes and his wife had sent me all his camera's and lenses in their original boxes. She had included a letter and I will not repeat all that it said, but she told me she had seen him so happy when he looked at my pictures and she knew that his beloved cameras would be in good hands with me. Ok, this is a very long story and maybe you are thinking, so what's the point? The point is.. The camera is just an instrument. It's the photograph that matters. Use those camera's you have got and ignore all the gear and promises of new gear.. In the end.. it's the pictures that last when the camera is already forgotten or given away. I will not have this man's camera forever, but I will never part with his photobook..
Thanks to your videos, in part, I decided to try out Fujifilm cameras about 1 year ago. I bought a used X-T1 and have loved shooting with it. Am now getting an XT-4 simply because I need to do higher resolution video and I love the Fujifilm experience so far. Thanks for this!
I have the X-T2 and the X-E3 both which I love. I think I like the e3 more. I don't use Fuji lenses however, Just my Pentax and assorted Russian/German manual lenses.
Well Michael, the huge difference is, your old lenses are 1) manual focus only and 2) being for small picture format, or better being said "fullframe" from the heyday. Not APS-C. You simply can't compare them. And FYI, i shoot since the later 80's, i've bought a Sony A7 Series serveral years ago, only for adapting my huge manual focus lenses collection. Fujifilm does have the best, biggest APS-C Lens LineUp bar noone into the business, by all brands. That is, because Canikons EF-S, EF-M and DX System is dying, no more new lenses since years, and so it's the same with Sony (almost) besides a few Sigma APS-C Lenses. The Focus is onto their 36x24mm Sensor format, hence therefore, they don't give much a damn about APS-C Users. So you have always the x1.52, x1.53 Cropfactor, when using your Fullframe lenses via Fujifilm, unless you use a LT II or Speedbooster (Ultra) for example..and even with that, it's never the same focal length then, but somewhat close to, because for instance, the Lens Turbo does have a x0.726 cropfactor, so for instance a 35mm Lens is like 35x1.52x0.726, which correlates with 38.6mm focal length, all right ? So from this PoV, it's not really interesting, to adapt ordinary SLR lenses, which have been designed for 36x24mm Film, to use with a smaller APS-C Sensor, because there's always the cropfactor of course - which renders the original focal length basically useless, unless you want this exactly. It's much better, -preferred, to use old manual focus SLR lenses via a 36x24mm Sensor camera, which some call "Fullframe", which is another stupid, silly moniker from the early 2000's - because it meant only parity finally, with the Sensor size of ordinary Film SLRs, that was, for instance, when CONTAX announced the #1 Worlds first 36x24mm Sensor DSLR, the mighty CONTAX N digital, and shortly after it was being avialable (2002), Canon introduced the 11 MP EOS 1Ds.
@@marcp.1752 You’re ignoring the main reason why people use fujifilm APS-C cameras for vintage lenses: Cost. We all know that a full frame mirrorless would be ideal to use vintage lenses on but the cost is significant and many of us accept the less-than-ideal results we get as a trade off.
Thanks for all your information on Fuji cameras. I started with the X100 and the X-PRO1. They were just so slow....but....the images they took were just so great! The more Fuji's autofocus accelerated, the more I liked them. Now I'm perfectly happy with my X-PRO2 and X-T3. I might climb higher up the ladder someday (I'd love an X100 F or V, but there is no way to get hold of one).
A very nice guide and overview! A couple of years ago I started collecting and using film cameras and lenses. Soon after that, I didn't like the digital dials of my Sony anymore, and just as an experiment bought a X-Pro1 for 350 euro. I found that one the most appealing since I love using range finder film cameras. I absolutely love the analog feel of the body, although I 100% agree that the optical viewfinder in combination with manual lenses is not that practical. I mostly use the EVF on my X-Pro1. You are right that the X-E1 would be a good alternative to the X-Pro1, but since I have quite big hands, the smaller cameras are not the right fit for me. Same story with the X-T10, etc. And then not so long ago, I found myself lacking resolution, and bought a second hand X-T2. I absolutely love it, on the X-Pro1 I was always missing the ISO dial, and I tend to use it quite a lot on my X-T2. In terms of image quality, I am also really happy with the X-T2, although the X-Pro1 has this "feel" to the images which makes it special.
This was very well put together! I am just getting into the camera hobby and man there's just something about the X-trans sensor that just does it for me. I 100% agree and I find that fuji cameras just take more realistic photos. There is this softness that you get which honestly can't be found in typical Bayer sensors. It's sort of akin to the audiophile world where R2Rs IMO provide the most organic sound vs traditional delta-sigma DACs.
I'm loving an X-T2 (which I bought second-hand). I mainly focus on landscapes (pun intended), so this seemed like a nice step up from my X-T1 in terms of overall handling and output. And still small enough to take hiking. Great channel, keep up the good work!

I primarily shoot with an X-H1 and an array of vintage glass. My favorite is a 50mm f1.4 Cooke Ivotal from a 16mm movie camera. A Canon LTM 50mm 1.4 is a close second. In a given weekend, I can go from shooting track meet action with Fuji lenses to street events to car shows with the same body. For traveling light, I carry an X-E2 with the Fuji pancake and a couple adapted Olympus PEN F lenses. After seeing your video on the X-Pro 1, I've pulled out the X-E1 again. It's only downside is a viewfinder that doesn't quite cut it for use with adapted glass.
Just one more thing I meant to include before - when you use the dual display where you mention that you have the reduced size full screen view on the LHS and the centre magnified in a smaller frame on the RHS - you can switch these round so the RHS larger frame becomes the magnified centre with peaking. Spanner>screen settings>dual display setting.
Took a break from Fujifilm for the last two years. Now I'm back with the X-T4. I did get two of the three first X-series lenses because I wanted the primes known for their character in my kit, the XF 18 and XF 60. I'm waiting for the new XF 27 with the aperture ring for a nice compact fun system to use. I also have the underrated XF 14 lens. The main thing that brought me back to Fujifilm was for the XF 80. With the 2x teleconverter, it is the only mirrorless designed macro lens greater than 150mm with AF which also means I get focus bracketing with it.
I have an X-T3 with a Tamron 18-300mm lens that I completely love!! I've always had a Canon, started with my AE-1 Program years ago, I shot MANY rolls of Fujifilm film!!! I bought the Canon EOS 10-s when it came out, it was the first autofocus I thought was worth it. I still have my SLOW autofocus lens that came with it. hehe Went digital with the Fujifilm E550, it gave some control for speed and aperture, a little point and shoot. I went through some of the Canon Rebel cameras, bought a new Canon 80D and went through some Tamron lenses and ended up with the Tamron 18-400mm lens. Also had the Canon 1Dm4, DSLR's are tooooo heavy!!! I decided to go mirrorless and bought a used (but nice) M50m2 and ended up with a Tamron 18-200mm lens. I wanted longer and got tired of Canon's lack of support for the EOS-M series. I played with an Fujifilm X-T3 I was getting ready to send to a friend overseas and decided to buy one for me. I found one with only 279 clicks on it and read about the Tamron 18-300m X mount lens and that was my choice!! With Canon I got lazy using the "Program" setting. Fuji doesn't have that. You can set everything on Auto, BUT you still need to adjust aperture, speed, or ISO sometimes. I LOVE the color reproduction of the Fuji!! With the Tamron lens I am VERY satisfied!! Tamron and Sigma both are bringing out new lenses AND that makes me excited!!
Personally, from a professional point of view, and being so old that l come from the film era, l love using Fujifilm cameras. They are so familiar for me to use. I started with the X100 and X-Pro1 as soon as they arrived on the market. I moved on to the X100T and F, the X-Pro2 and the X-T1. Currently, my wife uses the X-T1 and l have upgraded to the X-T4. My only regret is having given away my X100F. It was to a worthy cause but the appeal of that camera was so great that l really need to get an X100V asap. Strangely though, l find l get more "character" from vintage lenses when l use them on a Sony A7rmk3. Fujifilm's own lenses are excellent. (they've been in the business for over 80 years!) If you are on a budget, try the f2 primes (23, 35, 50mm) and you will not be disappointed. They are perfect for both street and B&W photography.
I must try more modern Fujifilm lenses - I hear they're very nice indeed. Full frame will always give a little more character from vintage lenses as they're able to 'see' the full image circle of the lens. I've never really noticed the difference myself, but I've found an aps-c camera can give almost the same results as full frame does if you use a focal reducer. Thanks for looking in!
@@Sukesh55 I think the 50mm f2 is more suitable for portraits within the f2 range. I find its longer reach allows for more subject separation and better results in half or full body shots. The 35mm f2 isn't bad, though.
Fuji S3 pro was a great camera that simulated film beautifully. Did tons of wedding with one. Would love to have a nice working one again. Great video.
I'm an X-t2 shooter. Bought it based on your recommendation. I love it. I also own a Canon 80d and as a self taught novice I found that the fuji dial setup made me understand the exposure triangle so much easier. Now I'm able to take the lessons learnt on the xt2 to the 80d.
It's so much easier to understand exposure when you're dealing with analogue (type) adjustments that are visible and tactile. I'm glad your photography journey is progressing well - enjoy, and thanks for watching!
I took a chance on an X-E2 for my first "serious" digital camera. The film style controls appealed since I'm older generation, and the X-E2 seemed to offer the best value. Still getting to grips with it, and I'm a bit daunted by the massive manual.
Well, this is a year later from your comment, but I say bugger the manual. (Listening to Mr. Zeno makes me feel like talking Brit.) Watch a couple of RU-vid vids about it and Bob's your uncle. Later you'll have specific questions to look up answers to in the manual-or yet another RU-vid tutorial.
Really enjoyed the video and your thoughts on these older Fujifilm cameras. I have a X-T3 and a X-T4. But my favourite camera is my X-H1. I originally intended selling it after I got the X-T4 but I cannot bring myself to do it. When I hold it in my hands it is like holding an old friend. Despite its bulk and weight it just feels right. It gives me a sense of confidence that I don't get to the same extent with the X-T3 or X-T4.
My XT3 is my workhorse for paid gigs and my XE3 is my street/daily carry, and this combination could not be any better when you use high quality vintage lenses👌🏼 I use my Nikon and Takumar glass interchangeably on the bodies, and I think they bring our the best of the X-Trans 3 and 4 sensors🔥
I bought an X-Pro1 body three years ago for CHF 250.- because it was a cheap possibility going into photography. Outstanding camera, beautiful results. I still use just this one, together with a Fujinon 16mm WR 2.8 and i have no desire to change soon...love it.
I bought a 2nd hand X-T2, silver version, for Landscape photography. Main reasons were the Analogue button/dials, but additionally the ability to use long exposures up to 15 mins, without going through lots of menus. Well built and not too heavy with the XF10-25 lens.
Thank you for another fine video. I have an XPro1, (2) XE1s, an XA1, and an XT10. I have 4 modern Fuji lenses and about 35 various vintage lenses that I use with adapters. Your comments are pretty much aligned with my opinions of these cameras. Overall favorite of mine (so far) is the XE1; I will likely buy a used XE2 soon, based on what I hear about it. Shooting vintage lenses is a wonderful hobby.
The colored focus peaking made a massive difference to me, going from XE1 to 2. Wish they had added red peaking as as a firmware update to the 1. The 2 is all arohnd faster to use too.
I use a X-100f for most of my creative work. I also have a X-E3 which shares the same sensor fitted normally with the 16mm 2.8. These replaced my Nikon DSLR and Sinar 4x5. Thanks for your research!
I started with an XPRo1 just as an experiment to see if I liked it . It cost me £200 4 years ago. A s/h 27mm for £250 was added to it. I liked the set up, but the EVF was a bit rubbish for manual focusing and the AF was slow and clunky. I kept it for a year and sold it and changed to a X-E2s, which had a better EVF and faster focusing. I liked it quite a lot but needed a grip for better handling. Based on this experience I tried a X-T1 for £200 in early 2020. I added a battery grip and later MHG for £50 each. I love the ergonomics of this camera with or without its grips so much and its large EVF I also now have a backup, and it is barely any bigger and heavier than the X-E2. The X-E2 was sold last year to help fund an X-E3. I like the X-E3 for its very small form factor (it could be too small for some), but TBH, I am uncertain I made the right choice in selling the X-E2s to pay for it. I do not like the colour images as much, but it is easiy to tweak them in post, so its no big deal. Finally I have a X-H1 which I got for £750 with a battery grip last spring. Frankly I do not like the camera. I like the shutter mech, the very big and detailed EVF, the build quality and the image quality. What I do not like is that none of the buttons and dials fall under my fingers where I want them to be, so have to shift my grip to reach them, the size and weight and the battery hungry nature of the beast. However I keep it because I need the IS for use with longer telephoto lenses.
Thanks for the review, I shoot with a few vintage Minolta lenses on my XT-2 and XH-1, I am guessing that the camera to your right is a Minolta. I agree peaking seems to be the best for manual focusing although the digital split image in monochrome is not too bad.
I got an XT-1 in 2018 to see what mirrorless was all about. I loved them on release as it reminded me so much of my Pentax SV that I bought in Wallace Heatons in Fleet St in around 1964/5. Remember their Blue Book? I loved it so much that I sold it after 6 months, but only as I fell over an XT-2 that someone bought as a second/spare camera, but other than checking it worked OK - he never used it! Now I have 2 XT-4s. I've recently become interested in vintage lenses so have found your channel very useful - and yes, I have subscribed!
I have 7 fuji bodies, XT1, XT3, each of the 3 XPros, X100V and an infrared modified X-E2. 5 of the 7 bought used in wonderful condition. I don’t care about autofocus speed etc. I do think the build quality, menu system, shutter feel etc all are improved on the later models. If a first camera I would recommend an XT2 or Xt3. The best value for features and weather sealed. If looking for the experience of photography - any of the XPro bodies or the X100 series.
LOL! I just watched The Art of Photography vid of this FUJI and commented this: Whoa! There are a few RU-vidrs I have to increase playback speed with (the much-adored Stuart Fillingham for example). This guy may be the first I've had to decrease to 3/4 speed, but great vid, exceptionally well articulated, perhaps too well articulated :) This guy I'm going for 1.5X
When I decided to go a bit more seriously into digital photograph, yours was one of the sites I checked out. I eventually chose the X-Pro2 after I decided to go with Fujifilm. I haven't had it very long, just under six months and picked it off of Ebay out of the US (£520+). I picked up 35mm 1:2 WR at an excellent price (£203) shortly after not far away. The weather sealing and the film simulations were a big factor in choosing this camera. I agree with you on trying to focus manually and I whine about the focus by wire. I have a have an old Nikkor 1:2 5cm I have sitting on an Leica iiif that I thought to get an adapter to fit the X-Pro2. I got the X-Pro2 as a travelling the ability to use the picture out of the camera was important without running it through software. Plus there isn't a lot of good raw software running on the Linux operating system. I found that Darktable distort raw Fujifilm images. X-Pro1 are hard to come by here. I couldn't find an X-T1 where the skin wasn't coming off.
did u try rawtherapy ? i use linux and darktable and dont seem to see the distortion problem on my xpro1's raws u seem to be talking about could you explain in more detail your problem?
@@Atokinox The distortion was apparent when comparing the in camera JPG to the Darktable JPG. The DT installation seems to be missing the lens & camera correction extensions which I am not overly desperate address as I use in camera software to create my images and one big reason I picked the Fujifilm as I don't want to pack a computer (other than my phone) when I am on the road (cycling on my trike which has a dynamo which allows me to keep my phone and camera batteries charged up).
@@Atokinox My camera definition and my lens profiles are not in my version of Darktable - I have an old and still supported Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS - I am not too concerned but the problem is simple - The Darktable JPG created from my Fujifilm X-Pro2 with the 35mm f2 differs noticably from the JPG created by the camera from the same raw - the do not register the same. When I get around to upgrading the distribution I will check to see if the problem is solved.
I use two Fuji cameras. The first one I bought is an X-T2 which I use still for video. I also use a GFX-100 which replaced two years ago a 50s-. The large camera is paired with a Leica S2 -which is better, due to a combination of lower resolution and better lenses, but with a much narrower range of use: the Fuji does whatever the Leica cannot-. I love the X-T2, which is light and simple to use, has a very nice image quality, better balanced color than the gfx leaning less to the magenta, and a fantastic kit lens in the 18-55. It’s a small gem.
X-T20 purchased new and it's still the one I pick up and take with me. I have a very ratty X100 that gets the odd outing. The X-T20 with one of the Lensbaby lens is a lot of fun.
I have an X-T2 2-3 years now and am amazed by how little improvement the more recent X-T4 or X-T5 cameras are compared... at least from a quality of the picture concern.
I enjoyed the video well done, Speaking as a Professional who uses Fujifilm cameras for both video and stills, I would add a couple of things Sensor wise, any Fuji X-trans camera from first generation to current generation takes excellent stills, however processor wise is where you get a massive jump in the cameras ability This is where the current generation jump out as being much more useful. the autofocus capability is much better on X-T3 (with firmware 4.x) XT-4 etc. not to mention the video features and capability. For video the is a massive jump in capabilities with the X-T3 For stills I have and would be happy to use any of the cameras and have printed up to 19"x13" gallery quality, using an X-Trans 1 sensor camera (X-Pro1) and X-Trans 2 (X-T1/10/E2) and that size was limited by my printer not by the camera, I have printed way bigger for posters (larger than A1) but the details is not as critical when the viewing distance is several meters away. As far as lens go, I love using vintage lens with the X-T10 (I have sold or donated all other cameras that are not using the X-Trans 4 sensor apart from the X-T10), however, i have also had lots of fun using the cheap Chinese made manual focus lens which sometimes are as cheap as some vintage glass and you don't need a mount adapter. But also if you are on a really tight budget, there is the XC 35 F/2 lens fuji released, at least in UK it is around £170 new, optically it is the same as the XF 35 F/2 (just under half the price) but lacks an aperture ring and weather sealing, and is made of plastic. I also would not buy latest generation cameras used unless the deal is very good, as the X-T3 is only £899 brand new right now. But if I only had a £300 budget, i'd probably look for an X-T10 or XE2/2s get the XC35 F/2 for the autofocus or 1 or 2 manual focus lens. For video work, if you want more than 1080p 60fps you need to invest in a newer model, I'd recommend using manual focus for video on these older cameras (TBH most of time i use manual focus on the new ones too)/
I've heard good things about the XC 35mm, it seems it's quite a bargain in the Fuji lens line up. And I agree - no matter how good an autofocus system might be, it's manual only for any serious film/video work. I've often heard people express surprise at this but it really is the only way! As someone who shoots mostly film now, I still use and enjoy Fuji digital because the cameras and the results are reminiscent of film. My XT-20 is like the 1970s Contax cameras (but definitely more reliable) my XE-1 is like a rangefinder and wears a Konica Hexanon 40mm f1.8 as standard, and my X100S is just a wonderful walk around camera.
I've heard amazing things about the Fujifilm XH1 from professional cameramen who hate the XT-3 because of the aesthetic of its stills. The XH1 has the videography capability of the XT3 but also apparently captures stills reminiscent of the character and quality of earlier X series models. Worth investigating.
I love my X-E3! It produces great images, it feels comfortable in my hands, & it has great tactile functionality. I also have a X-T10, but it doesn't feel quite as comfortable to me. Although, I do like the tilt screen on the X-T10.
I too love my X-E3. I was in the market for a backup camera and decided upon the X-T2. It came with a few batteries and other accessories. I primarily use it with manual lenses and peaking. My son enjoys the X-E3 so I gave it to him and hung on to the X-T2.
Some years ago I had an opportunity to handle some of them in a shop. I preferred the larger one (X-T2). The XT-20 felt too small. It’s not that I have huge hands, but the ‘20 seemed to be trying too hard. The surprise was in liking the feel of the X-E2 (improved “S” version). I would have liked it better if I wasn’t left-eye dominant (which is why I rarely get on with rangefinder viewfinders.) I’d probably need something newer, with reliable face tracking. I shoot casual family snaps and people move, yet I want shallow depth of field … not zone focusing nor really single point AF: Did both for decades, however when I shoot I am always thinking about composition, not focus.
I have the XE-3. I use it with an L-grip, which makes the grip comfortable. I only use it with vintage lenses. I really like to hold it in hand, love the image quality and the film simulations. The touch screen is very useful as well, but I really miss a tilt screen. What I really hate is when in low light the live view (EVF or LCD) pushes up the ISO and lowers the frame rate which makes it horrendous to watch. It makes me want to go back to DSLR. So I wanted a bigger Fuji body with tilt screen. I really wanted to have an X-h1 for the extra stabilization and video stuff but when I tried out one briefly it was not fun to hold: to heavy and the grip was big but still not good to me. The LCD was a letdown as well. I briefly held and X-T3. which was better, but the grip too small. I might consider to get exchange my current one to an X-T1 or X-T2. I also have an A7s which can be fun with some vintage lenses (like my inherited Jupiter 12 can ONLY be fitted to A7 bodies) but the colors of that camera are just disappointing, especially the skin tones. So I will get rid of it and probably try out a Pentax KP, and if I like it, I will ditch everything and remain with Pentax only. :) (and maybe get a Canon xc10 for video besides that).
I got an XE-2 and frankly I was shocked how it wasn't more popular. The high ISO performance and quite film-like feel of the shots (especially considering I got a very good copy of SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 and a Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8, the latter being my main), the ergonomics - it feels like using a film camera. Even the EVF is quite usable. All in all, I think XE-2 is still amazing even in 2022. The only drawback is, my sister liked it too. She liked it so much I had to give it to her. The only drawback is the video. It is a stills camera with video tacked on. It does have a mic port, so you can use it as a last resort, but you might as well use a good smartphone for that.
@@zenography7923 well, considering you can get it 5 times cheaper than a flagship smartphone (at least the body). And the phone will give you neither the experience nor the quality of the shots. And it's still going to be usable in 5 years.
My first Fuji was the X-E1 & I loved it but I lusted after the Pro & eventually upgraded to the XPro2 which I didn't get along with at all. I kept accidentally switching the EVF off. I even tapped over the lever but still managed to switch to the optical viewfinder which I didn't enjoy using. Also the ISO dial was a pain as my eyesight isn't what it used to be, so it was glasses on to adjust then glasses off to take the photo which drove me nuts. I currently have the X-T3 which is great but I mostly only use it with the 50-140 & the 100-400 lenses so I'm thinking of picking up either a T1 or T2 as my walk about camera. X-H1; X-T3; X-T4 ... for me, these are the first cameras, since my film days, that equal film cameras. I also love the film simulations and extended IR response which let me filter and shoot IR!
I own a Fuji X10 which is my designated travel camera as it is rather compact, fairly lightwight and features a pretty decent zoom range. The optical viewfinder is not exactly useful but I use it anyway and even prefer it over the LCD screen. And I totally like the classic look of the camera.
I spent my time with the xt 1 and 2 one Fuji lens and the rest vintage glass in M42 mount with a zhongyi lens turbo . Most favourite takumars 20,24,35,50,55 and 150mm additional the CZJ lenses Flektogon 20mm 2.8 , Flektogon 35mm 2.4. and Pentacon 50mm 1.8 . Some China TTartisan lenses yes , but most of the time xt2 with lens turbo and takumar 35mm f2 😁
My main camera is an X-T30, which I love. I mostly shoot portraits. I also have a couple of bayer sensor fuji cameras (X-A7, XF10) and an early X 10, all of which I use when I travel. I'm thinking about an X-T2 or X-T3 for tethererd shooting and dual card support. At that point I'll be a collector, so I'll probably pick up an XTrans I body and an XTrans II body as well. :-)
I shoot an x-t2 and a first gen x-100. I love both. The x-t2 has a magnificent evf, so I can ride the shutter speed and what it shows is exactly what I get.
Another great review, many thanks. I sort of fell out of love in the digital era til me daughter bout a fujifilm x30. It felt right and the controls were in the right place. I soon bought a XE2s and love it ... so did my wife abandoning the bulky ugly Cannon T70 and well I had to replace it ... with a XT20 which I preferred but only because I could shoot macro without lying down (swivel screen). My other dsughter after shooting film on my old Pentax k1000 for a couple of years also loved my XT20, so now there's an XT30 in the family. And then I was digitising a lot of film so the XT20 is left on the copy stand and I'm loving the the weatherproofness of the XT3 now. To tell you the truth, I love them all and would be just as happy to spend the whole day with any of them. As I don't shoot video I find them all as good as each other ... almost. The XT3 is heavier and slightly larger then my XT20. And an important note if you're digitising with a manual lens (as I am) then white is a terrible colour for focus peaking when digitising B&W and Red is a terrible colour for colour negatives. I love them all, thanks fujifilm for brining the fun back into photography. I must admit though, all my vintage lenses stay on my "vintage" pentax film cameras
First camera was the X-M1. When I first shot with it I didn't know the sharpness was set at plus one and other settings were slightly nudged. I shot black and white that day and was really knocked out by the look of it's X Trans. But now I wonder about how the different sensors (Fuji XA-5 and XT 100 bayer sensors to the X trans) respond and compare to each other as you change sharpness, highlight tone, and shadow tone, and whether people prefer the quality of older X trans sensors to later ones, even though they're 16 megs instead of 24.1 megs. Especially when adjusting those settings.
I've used an X-T100 with a Bayer sensor - it made nice images but personally I didn't find them as nice as the X-Trans images. Colours, especially on Velvia setting, seemed a bit too full on, lacking the subtlety of X-Trans. That's not to say they aren't nice though - classic chrome worked really nicely, and the camera itself was a nice small size, with a flippy screen! Thanks for watching.
Currently, I have an X100 finepix, x-e1, x-T1, xt30, an x100v (Bayer, Xtrans I,II, IV respectively)--they all serve unique purposes (i.e. dedicated black and white, daily camera, professional travel camera, portrait camera, travel/waterproof camera). Personally, I find the Bayer and X-trans I to be my most "film-like" straight out of camera; the x100v & XT-30 are simply beautiful, sharp, and portable w/ a range of film simulations to test out (i.e. FujiWeekly); the Xtrans II sensor is nice for landscapes. I only own a Fujifilm X 18-50mm f/2.8-4 R LM , however, I shoot a range of Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Leica lenses I have collected over the years. Save money---buy an older Fujifilm and you will be very happy :)
I own the X100 (black), 2x X-E1, X-E2, X-M1, X-T1. All using with different focal lengths. For b&w, i use like in the 90s, a Film SLR, from my various Film SLR pool & brands.
I currently have an X-T2 an X-E2. My first Fujifilm camera was an X100F, but I sold it after I began using vintage lenses almost exclusively (largely because of you, Nigel). I bought the X-E2 as a spare, but it is wonderful in its own right.
i bought xt10 out of curiosity. recently upgrade to xt2. love the overall feel aside the weight and size. but thinking to upgrade to x-t3 in future. but the x-t2 is good in terms of IQ. very budget right now and still widely available
I think in terms of image quality there's not a great deal of difference between the X-T2 and 3 - the 3 is much better at video though. Thanks for looking in!
I currently shoot a X-E1 with adapters and vintage Minolta / Nikon primes. X-T10 & 55-140mm for shooting hockey and a X100V for everything else. All jpeg.
I own an X100F, X-T1, X-PRO1 and X-PRO2. I felt ever since I got the X-PRO2 I have been using my X100F a lot less mainly because of the ability to switch lenses. I often use the X-T1 as a back up with the 18-55 or 55-200 lenses. Great cameras.

Have a XE2 (had commented on another of your videos). Off late finding no buyers for my old SONY A mount lenses started trying them on XE2 with MAF to X adaptor. The digital split image too works in some instances like the split prism in a SLR. I tried using it for scenes with vertical lines and it's usable landscape mode. I did not find it turning around in portrait mode so a bit difficult to use.
Found a clean X100V on OfferUp for only $1000! I use it mainly as my street and travel camera but lately have been adding it to my equipment mix during model shoots when it's not being used as a prop. My models always tell me how cute it is. Lol.
I bought an X-Pro1 and a few Adapters for my Huge Collection of Vintage Lenses... Used it Steady for like 6 weeks, and Sold it with the Adapters, for a loss. No Thanks... I'll Stick with my Sony Cameras a3000, a6000 a6400 A7RIII. ... For Film Work I have a Dozen or more Pentax, Nikon, Olympus... Favorite maybe Pentax ESII or K2DMD... but I have a Full Vegetable Drawer of FujiChrome 50 ASA in my fridge, and 6 Bricks in my Freezer, as well as 120 and 4x5 Sheet Film. I Process my Own E-6, as well as occasional B+W .... Fujifilm made Fantastic Film, but their Cameras... ahh, Not so much. - - Nice Video as Always!
i have an xt1 which has served me very well. i also have the nikon d3s and d700, all 3 of these well built Japanese cameras have beautiful sensor qualities and non are necessarily better than the other. the xt1 is much lighter however so great for travel and the d3s is better at high iso indoors. unless you need fast autofocus, there is no need to get a newer camera, you will be editing those images too make them look less ugly in my experience whereas the jpeg from older nikon and fuji are much better
I only shoot stills so the video capabilities don't interest me I have an X-T1 and and X-T10 with the wonderful X trans 2 sensor. I also have an X-E1 so I can use the remarkable XTrans 1 sensor. I also Have Sony A7 and a Cannon D5 mk1 and use both modern and vintage lens on them. Your excellent channel inspired me to go mirrorless at the beginning of 2021. before I shot mainly on film I have many wonderful film cameras the only dslr I had was a Nikon D200 which was ok but not in the same league as the mirrorless cameras I have now and you could not use vintage lens with it except for Nikon lens. thanks for your excellent videos
I bought an X Pro 1 originally to use with my vintage lenses a good used one from MPB cameras for about £300. I believe the focus peaking was actually a firmware update at some point but as you point our the white colour isn't the easiest to use so in the end from the same dealer I bought a Fujinon 18-55 lens which in my opinion is superb and the total combination costing £600 for a rather good camera. I like it's looks and its weight. I use it completely manually just like a film camera and shoot jpegs normally. I have occasionally shot RAW and even processed in camera but I do question why anyone would shoot RAW with Fuji cameras but each to their own. I tend to use the the optical viewfinder as opposed to the EVF if I want to save battery power although I must admit that has never been a problem but the option is there. At some pint I might put a vintage lens on it again and practice focusing without using peaking which I believe is possible or try to get on with the white peaking. The peaking on my Panasonic GX7 and Sony a7 is just much easier.
I got Fuji X-Pro 1 and X-T1 2nd hand cheep from a friend a few years ago when he upgraded to 60 Mpix Sony. My main equipment is Nikon F-system . I use D700 and D800E currently but I slowly upgrading to some Zoom lenses as AFS 24-70F2.8 E VR and AFS 70-200mmF2.8 E VR and I'm saving too a 2nd hand D850. Else I sold off my 135mm analogue cameras and switched to analogue MF. I'm looking for a CFi FLE T✻50mmF4.0 lens to HB 503 CW. Have you tested that lens?
I got an XT1 when it was released I haven't changed since The best camera I have ever owned You're right about the skin I had to have mine replaced several years ago when fuji did it with no charge Sadly its coming off again and I doubt they will fix it free this time lol Still it's an extraordinary camera And the 35 1.4 is a miracle.
I'm not sure exactly but as a general rule of thumb, the later the camera, the higher the resolution of the evf will be. Having said that, I've found all of those here to be absolutely fine.
I have an X-T3 but I recently bought an X-T20 for 350$, w/ a 27mm 2.8 for street photog to be more discreet. To my surprise I like the way the X trans 3 sensor looks more than the 4. I wonder if I might like the 2 more than the 3?
You've just explained why I have by necessity become a fuji hoarder; after getting enticed back into photography in 2012, I still have a pair of x-pro1's an x-e1, one black one titanium x-t2's, also a pair of x-h1's not to mention my pride and joy the original gfx50s. I did have an xt1 but sold it for virtually nothing, hence hoarder status.
You have a very nice collection there, for sure! I've used some really nice Fujifilm cameras, but despite advancing technology and capabilities I still kind of miss my X-T1!
I bought the "last generation" X30 digital camera instead of the "DSLR"-like cameras. It's been a nice, compact digicam companion to a Canon PowerShot G15. I preferred the Nikon D series (D40 and D7000) of DSLRs since I have a collection of 24 X 36mm film Nikkor lenses.
I had an X-T4 and many, too many, lenses and, mostly enjoyed using them. Then I made the mistake (wise decision??) of buying an X-Pro 2. What a difference! The shooting experience and feel good factor of that camera, paired with the 35 f1.4, is incredible. So, I sold everything and kept only that pairing. Now, however, I'd like to have a second body for no other reason than to have flexibility and the small DSLR style look and feel - the X-T2 is what I'm looking at as it appears to give a lot of value for money in today's market.
I went through KEH Camera for a Like New X-T2 with the Flash. I have 4 other M4/3 Olympus I'm using until my Fujifilm arrives the coming week with the 35mm F2 lens (new).
I am thinking of buying a used X-T2. However, I wish they were going for around £200-250… I am new to the “photography world”, so I don’t know how the prices used to be. Do you have any recommendations on where could I find a X-T2 for the same price that you mentioned?
I bought a X-T2 in 2017, because of an accident with the camera the insurance bought me a X-T3 as a replacement. In 2019 I was on a Safari and wanted a 2nd camera so that I don't have to change lenses in a very dusty environment. I bought a X-T20 because I got it for 330€, but I have to say I miss my X-T2 so much. Still looking on ebay for a great deal to replace the X-T20. The extra wheel for ISO, which X-T20 doesn't have, is unarguably so so much worth in terms of usability. And I don't know why but I like the X-T2 more than the X-T3....to be honest the Autofocus isn't that much faster on the X-T3....I did't feel any difference between X-T3 and X-T20 shooting wildlife on safari.
i returned to photography after many years 3 weeks ago and found used X-T3 for a good price, couldnt be happier with it (i used to shoot with canon rebel series back in the day)
Does anyone have any thoughts on the xt200? It's a fantastic camera but it gets left out of all these conversations.... I know it got discontinued and it doesn't have the x trans bayer sensor but I still feel it's quality and price make it a great option regardless and its crazy how people keep putting the xt2 and the xt20 (and others) on 'best fuji' lists but are leaving out the xt200... 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
I curently dont have a fuji camera, but i want one, the only problem is that i dont know wich one to buy I really like the film look in photos, so which one do you think would be a good buy? i am divided between a x-pro 1 (because of the 1st generation xtrans sensor) and one of the E series, but i really dont know what to go for 😅😅
I bought a Fujifilm X-T20 used with a 35mm F2 WR Xf lens for $550. When I saw it I was hesitant to buy it because it seamed too good to be true but it was steal of a deal and it really happened to be real. I'm so happy with it 😀
@@zenography7923 I know it was practically new and the autofocus is so fast compared to the 6Dmarkii. ESPECIALLY in low light. And the ability to use any vintage lens I want is awesome too! ^-^
X Pro1 for love and feeling, X T4 my RU-vid channel and for similar stuff at work (I love the separate stills/movie settings and the flippy screen) Both together when i cannot be bothered with changing lenses.
