I'm argentinian. This song is based on last Eva Peron's speech. She knew she was ill (cancer) and It's saying goodbye to crowd...A few days later, she died.
I love this song, it touches my heart from the very beginning when I first heard it, it doesn't matter what country you came from if you understand what the lyrics meant.. it's a beautiful song
I saw Elaine Page perform this in sept 1981. She was brilliant in the show. And that is what many comment on here seem to forget. She is a musical theatre actress and not just a singer like most of the others that performed it!
wow.....my mom gave me good taste in music. She always sang in the kitchen when I was young. She passed away from pancreatic cancer on the day this was published. 02/08/2008. It's 03/31/2019. Her birthday was 3 days ago. I miss her so much.
I am so happy for you, Kathy Roach, that your Mom shared the best of music with you, and know that it will remain in your heart. And I am so sorry and offer my condolences and sympathies to you for the loss of your mother :'( in 2008 and that her life was taken away by the menacing Pancreatic cancer the day this video was published. Very sad and odd.* Though, somehow, in some way, I feel your mother may have seen this video (within 'Heaven's' time) for she knew how much this meant to you. Her spirit felt it---and she smiled. May peace surround you by her memories. Blessings to you and your mother and I wish you could be celebrating her birthday as she continues to listen to music in Heaven. My best wishes to you, Kathy. ~ Sherri I also have another 'personal' note* I'd like to share with you and will come back to write it. ALSO: PLEASE look at this video and listen to Nicole Scherzinger singing 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina'. Nicole's version of this song is the best if ever heard. She's MAGNIFICENT! She emotes feelings that really touch me with her embrace if the the words and her powerful voice. I know you will enjoy it! :-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NuttvUdcMds.html
Elaine Paige is such a wonderful vocalist and performer. Memory and Don't Cry for Me Argentina are such beautiful songs. She does them so beautifully. I am moved every time I hear her sing them. Betty the Poet
I love her so much... not only is she an amazing actress, her voice simply does not have a break in it. She sounds as powerful in her lower register as she does in her higher notes. But even though she COULD just belt everything, she knows when to pull back and actually be soft and tender... she's just amazing...
Elaine adds an amazing presence to any song she does. There isn't any training that can give one this gift. You either have it or not and she definately has it!
No one in the world can compare with Elaine Paige's vocal and emotional dramatic ability. Her talent in singing and acting is magnificent and incomparable. That's the reason she's The First Lady of British Musical Theatre. She's a Legend and simply the best! BRAVO, ELAINE!!!
Notice how she never looks at her feet as she's descending the stairs, never breaking her steely gaze toward her audience. That took practice! She is so smooth.
By far the best rendition of this powerful song... I saw Elaine in the original stage production of Evita and boy was it good... A perfect cast with David Essex and Joss Akland. A night so perfect and one i shall never forget.... .
One of the most impressive interpretations of the song. Ms. Page is a tremendously gifted actress and singer and this is my favorite rendition of Don't Cry...
Elaine Paige have got such a unique vocal that no one can come close to her talent. Which I can sing like her, such a beautiful voice, soft and dreami , like a lorabi you sing to your child.. trust in her voice 😇
The True Grand Dame of the musical art form. Ms PROFESSIONAL, Elaine Paige, the standard against which all other female vocalists are measured . and rightly so. I love this woman's voice. right from the belly, not her throat.
lol..so completely wrong.....there are many many finer voices and women who would be considered the grande dame..ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU DONT EVEN KNOW THE CORRECT TERM....PAIGE IS certainly not THE VOICE OTHER FEMALE VOCALISTS ARE MEASURED AGAINST.....LOL..GROW UP BEFORE YOU YAP
i watched all the video these 3 great singers nicole, elaine, lea, but honestly the perfect rendition for me when it comes to clarity of voice, diction and the emotions is no other than lea salonga.
The great Elaine Paige was the original "Evita" in the West End Production that opened June, 1978. She has the superb voice, class and exceptional acting ability to remain the fantastic legend she has since become and will always be.
Have become a big fan of Ms Paige through the generosity of the many people who have uploaded so many of her performances. For that, all I can say is "Thank you."
God! I love this song and the story it tells. I haven't heard an artist sing this dong that I didn't like. It is such a heartfelt song that stirs the emotions about a real person.
The first lady of West End Musial Theatre in London England played the original Evita. Here, the one and only Elaine Paige did not disappoint, She is brilliant!
It helps that Andrew Lloyd Webber did write this with Ms.Paige's voice in mind, she was "Evita" in the original performances of the musical. But, damn, if I was a poor worker in Argentina listening to this voice sing this song, I think I would do anything she asked. Her ability to put emotion into her performances is amazing.
What a superb joy to see and hear this artist ! I am drying my eyes now, as I recall my wife and I seeing Elaine Paige do this live aboard a top of the line cruise ship about six years ago. I wish I could share this moment with her again today !
The queen of West End Musical Theater in the United kingdom played the original Evita Peron in England. She wowed them then, and she does it here. This performance is proof of why she is consider a treasure in West End Musical Theater and in the theater community throughout the world. I just love her.
I think to compare any body to any body is showing a dearth, a paucity of experience. That is natural and wonderful in it's own special way. I do understand what you say. I know Madonna very well, and what she does and what this genius here does are two very different -, but not unequal, generous gifts to all humanity. We are so lucky to be alive in this moment, What did we do to deserve such wonders?
Catrin Maynard Oh, I get it now. Sorry for the loss. You know, the real Eva Peron said a similar thing. One of the plaques on her tombstone begins: "No me llores perdida ni lejana..." which means "Don't cry for me for I am neither lost nor far away from you..." media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/01/5c/84/bb/eveta-peron-s-grave-buenos.jpg
I remember that moment of my childhood when i heard the new Eva Peron had die, and this song starts in a Spanish version (the original one) so I felt in love with it. But sounds so delicious with Elaine Paige, someone that I knew thank to Susan Boyle. Greets from El Salvador - RU-vid is the only source for us to know about these artists, thanks.
Very lovely. I also had not heard of her until they rolled their eyes when Susan Boyle said she wanted to sing like her. Thanks Susan for introducing us to this pretty voice.
Elaine Paige was the original Evita in the original production of this show. She is a very famous performer. I'm shocked you never heard of her before. Shame on you.
Willian rodrigues pereira Actually, Julie Covington sang the role of Evita on the original concept album in1976. Elaine Paige starred in the 1978 West End production.
As much as I have respect for Patti LuPone and Madonna, Elaine Page is the original EVITA. Madonna may have brought this song to the screen and Patti LuPone may have brought this song to Broadway, but Elain Page MADE this song.
