theres always one at a yard sale, they haven't paid for an item yet or put it in a pile , but when you pick it up its as if you're stealing it from them...and they haven't even bought it...i stick to Estate sales lol
She’s here looking through every single card trying to find a $100+ card for .25c instead of buying the box for $20 and going through it at home. She’s so cheap that she’s losing everything lol
@@M_u_t_e96024 some people know how to fake things. I wouldn't assume someone is showing signs of dementia because I'm not a psychologist. Not saying you aren't you might be. But if you were I'm sure you'd know how many people fake things to get pity and their way.
This lady is your classic "feel sorry for me because I'm an old lady " scammer. She knows exactly what she is looking for . You are waaaaay more patient than me.
Tbh the rudest thing felt like when you were trying to agree a price on the first set, and she was digging through them saying, 'oh I'd really like this one, and I'd definitely pay for that one' as if she was trying to bump up the price for you.
She got hit hard with the FOMO, lol. I loved that you stepped up and sparred with her, asking harmless questions that seem simple, but actually tell YOU a lot, depending on how she answers. Also, good on you for being nice. I can tell you did that out of respect for Steve. His house, his stuff, his sale……even though she was being inappropriate, being nice to her was really respectful to Steve.
This is exactly what she is! A helicopter shopper! I’ve never had a word for it before but it’s always people at garage sales/thrift stores that act this way. I’m genuinely curious wtf that’s about. Like gtf off my shoulder.
I lost it in the thumb nail bro i knew it this has happen to me once and it was like for something not collectable. Something just to put a home deciration lol
That's the first thing that crossed my mind and that she is obviously slow and i guarantee you she knows nothing about cards. Lol. She probably doesn't even know where she is at to he straight honest but she is just slow and probably means well. It's naturally annoying to most people when people does what she did though but hey, everybody be nice to that elderly woman. Legend also has it that she still thinks it's still so painful to talk about some little insignificant cards she had and sold back in the 60's.🤣🤣🤣.
I go to thirft stores, yard sales, antique stores...etc...these types are always in there. I know a few are hoarders. I have seen them go to their cars and vans and they are packed with stuff. They usually pick up junk and think it is worth a fortune. They obviously need some type of help, but in the end, I guess as long as they arent hurting anyone...They always want to talk about their "collection" No harm, no foul I guess
when he was in front of you and you guys were about to negotiate a price, she was just pulling out random cards going “oh wow” trying to build interest and hike the price up on you! no way she would have tried to buy all those cards lol
She was playing the poor me act. You are so patient. I cant stand it when someone come to where I have my pile and want to go through them! I am olderf now wnd not as patient as I once was.
@HENRY COOPER dont matter she knew exactly what she wanted and someone got it before her so she was trying to pick through them after he had it set aside. She is a weird old lady who just got beat to the line.
You handled her so humanely and patiently. I bet 1% of people of the world would have been as calm and genuine and nice as you. My adrenaline was up just WATCHING her go through your box. Amazing. You're a good soul dude
I immediately followed you for having the patience of Jesus with that lady! I would have been so annoyed at her following me around like that and looking thru my things. A++ for being a gentleman! ❤
Okay after you gave that guy $100 and said $70 is too cheap, you earned a follower outta me. World needs more people like you! Don’t ever change a thing bro
@@parkerswood I'm confused how he overpaid when a single card was worth 3x what he paid for everything. I'm not a collector or anything, just going off what was shown in the video, so if I misunderstood, my apologies.
og nowadays simply stands for original often used in a sentence "originally it was done" or "originally it is said" etc, some people want to keep it short and use short phrases same as how we use in a comment thread OP wich stands for original poster referring to the original post and the person behind it @@demayoexperience6646 not to be confused with "this thing is op" which stands for over powered. back in 00s and 90s og mostly was street slang for original gangster
I once had a small rummage sale but I didn't want to do the hard work of pricing. So it was all offering for donation for a charity. One guy asked me how much for three garbage bags full of excellent polo shirts. I told him it was all donation and to give what his heart thought was right to give. He gave me a lousy dollar for all three bags!
You were so patient with her, she clearly wanted you to give her that card. Also when the alarm went off I just imagined her robbing your car with the cards in 😂
I enjoy your videos but I love the fact that you know the value and when the seller undersells you make sure they get the value of the product. Also, kudos on how you handled that lady...
"the value of the product" ie a third of the value of one of the good cards. Of just the cards he decided to point at, the "value" was well over $1500.
@Kipah Okay but what's your point? I'm sure the seller knows he's trying to find good cards to sell for himself and doesn't care. They seem to know each other. So if the man sells it for 70 and he gets 100, that's a good deal for him.
@@carrela1000 My point is bigjondoes said he likes something that isn't the case. If someone sells their house for $2000 and gets $3000, you can say that's a great deal for them, but I'm going to point out they're not getting the value of the house if someone suggests otherwise.
She literally didn’t want anything unless you had it in your hand. I felt like she was following you around and if you found something good she wanted it. Geez! You have the patience of a saint! I was saying out loud, put them in the car Matt! Put them in the car!!! I felt like she was gonna run with that Kobe! Good haul!
That's when you go up to the most worthless item at the sale and make a big deal about it. Be like "holy cow, I can't believe they have this!" And let em steal it from you. Then you act sullen and pick out some stuff, grumbling about how "I guess this isn't too bad."
Maturity, Patience, Understanding. Even when you were bringing your cards to the car and talked about the lady that was hovering around you. All you said was "She was acting weird", nothing cruel. Impressive reaction.
@@megamanwins2016 , How was she kind? By trying to hog all the cards, she was busy looking at other junk and the minute he came she acts interested in what he's already paid for
Your ability to interact with her is incredible! I can't even talk to nice people not because I'm mean but because i just seem to be really different than most. She would have ended up upset talking to me
It's always a good thing to give others grace. It shows compassion for what you may not know about someone else and wisdom for what you know about yourself. We all need grace. 😊
i love whenever you ask a question like which one is your favourite or how long have you been collecting she just gives a collective answer, like oh long time. oh i like a bunch,
@sesambrot seem like they both were playing a cat and mouse game. He kept acting like he didn't know anything and she didn't want reveal anything in hopes of finding the hidden nugget before him.
Some people are just unbelievable, I don’t know how you kept you’re patience. Old lady or not she went WAY beyond for her BS innocent act to be believable.
Thanks so much. She was a little unsettling. Was afraid when you paid the man that she was going to steal the card. Thank God she didn't. Great find, lots of research...worth it!!
The other day at a thrift an old lady asked to see what I had in my basket and started pulling out my picks. I calmly took them back and said you can look but don't touch. Sly ol birds are out there.
Definitely! First she was there for the baseball cards, and then later she 'only' came for the basketball cards! I'm not even sure I could be that patient! Edit: sheesh, I'm not even sure there is anything 'wrong' with her...she was trying to manipulate him to give her what she wanted (probably what she knows it's worth $$$).
Every time I hear this, I can't believe it. It's not like the buyer is the one who decides the amount the seller is willing to take. If the seller doesn't know what something is worth, that isn't the fault of the buyer. Not to mention sometimes the seller simply just doesn't want to go through the trouble of selling everything individually. You make it seem like resellers are stealing from the buyers. It's not even close to the same.
@@PhantomlyReaper it’s disingenuous, no one said they’re stealing, but it’s akin to lowballing or ripping someone off, you can legally do it and not care, but it’s kind of scummy
Your patience is amazing. So chilled even though that women pestered you and got into your space and business. She was definitely trying to get something out of a sob story. I have now subscribed.
She doesn’t know what she’s looking at but wants whatever anyone else decides is worth something, though you were very polite yet firm with her and I appreciate your attitude!
Wow; you must be a very calm person (and very polite!), because I don't know if I personally would have been able to keep it together with that lady hounding continuously.
You were so nice to that woman, who was on my personal last nerve and I wasn't even there! I also love how you are fair to everyone. Overpaying when you think they are quoting too low. Keep up the kind attitude. The world needs that.
I agree I like the way he over paid because he knew they dident know how much was there. I watch some yard sail guys try to haggle the price down even when they know the people are under charging
I actually been getting cards from garage sales too on weekends. Lots of treasures to find. I bought a lot for $200 (found lots of Jordan and Kobe). Actual value of the lots was much higher so I came back and gave him an additional $100. He was surprised I came back and appreciated it very much. We pickers should try to give back to them. Sometimes they have no idea what they have.
Nice job man. These other two probably think scoring a $100 card for a quarter is an honest living. Pickers deserve to make a profit, but don't fool yourself into thinking its perfectly fine to swindle some old man out of valuable stuff. Be humble and honest like Rick.
Give back to the people you’re allowing to sell their stuff with obviously no clue of it’s real worth…. Yeah, you’re a real bunch of heroes… I mean I know it’s a hustle and people do it, everyone gotta eat and I get that, but quit pretending screwing the original owners out of all that profit is some heroic act, because it’s not. People don’t tend to have garage sales when they’re doing absolutely great money-wise
OMG dude that lady is just hawking over whatever you have in your hand, even after you said you're gonna get the entire box she asks you to go through it. Like others have said - your patience and demeanor is amazing
Steve is a such a good guy! And so are you! That poor lady was something else. Wow. I almost wish Kayla was there so I could of seen her reaction 😂 You did great with those cards! Steve really gave you a good deal! I'm amazed!!
That lady was one of the most manipulative people I’ve ever witnessed, trying every manipulation tactic possible. Your patience was absolutely impeccable. I wouldn’t have been so patient myself, because I cannot stand manipulative people.
When that woman went through your box, I started yelling at my phone! When she told the guy to give you a high price so she could get them, I lost it! Lol! I admire you.
You’re the best example of patience. You are a teacher of MANY things but mostly on how to conduct yourself. You handle EVERY situation the same and every person the same and that’s the biggest thing I take away from you and your videos. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Matt, you’re the best!!!
For someone who is a picker you are very polite and considerate to sellers who may not always know the value of their stuff. I think that lady was trying to emotionally manipulate you so, that you would just handover certain stuff that she may have been jealous that you got to first.
There is this store in my town called Gimmie A 5$. Everything is five dollars. One time my mom and I were shopping and we had accumulated a pile of goodies and she asked me if I would sit with our pile so nobody would try and steal our stuff. Of course I said yes. About half an hour later a lady came up to me and starter looking through our stuff that I was sitting RIGHT next to. I explained to her that we were actually planning to buy this stuff and she straight up ignored me. I told her this was our stuff about 3 times before she told me she doesnt speak english. Now I am friends with all the employees of this store and so one of them came up to us and as soon as the employee got there she walked away. It is terrible how people just do not respect one another nowadays.
Omg. You’re so patient. I would’ve been “I’m getting these-EXCUSE ME!” . You run into the oddest people-I’ve never met anyone like that at a yard sale, except when I was selling. Then the hard-luck stories poured out.
Omg. Yes. So patient. I’m watching and rolling my eyes and I can’t believe she looked through your stuff. And then she wanted that one card. What a crazy lady. Nice job keeping your cool. Bless your heart. 👏🏼👏🏼
When you asked her if she had seen any Lebrun James cards or koby Bryant cards in there and she said no, I had to laugh because she had clearly seen cards in there she liked and knew they were worth good money but told you there was nothing in there that she liked, I bet she was seething inside 😂😂😂, ya gotta know what ya like and strike straight away not spend 3 days sifting through the whole hoping to get a £400 card for a buck like that thrifty old lady, that was the whole reason she struck out!!! Good luck man, love the videos 👍🏻👍🏻
One thing I do when I noticed people coming up to look at stuff that I’m looking at, I just turn around and walk the other way and it makes them not interested in it either and then I go back to it.
She wanted him to ask what the sad story was about her losing the cards she once had, after telling him four or five times that she can't talk about it because it's too painful.
A lot of people in these comments defending the lady and then some saying you ripped him off. What a lot of them don’t realize is they really don’t want these items anymore, just want them gone. This could be because they buy abandoned storage units at bids and just get more than enough money out of the sale to bid for another. A couple of people near me do that and you get REALLY good stuff for cheap🤷♂️
@@janelleglover3259 Yep. They see somebody with knowledge going to buy something and try to claim it. People have done that at garage sales I've held and I've said "he claimed it first."
What you demonstrated is a keen eye and taking quick action. Something was very off about this lady and simply, she was too slow. You are very patient.
Resellers come in all types. What she tried to do was pretty underhanded and only the worst of 'em attempt stuff like that. One thing in this game anyone should learn early on: You can't get all the good stuff all the time. Don't get butthurt about missing out. Lick your wounds and move on. Always more opportunities around the corner.
I used to manage a charity shop and resellers are terrible. One day an elderly man asked me to keep back a beautiful hand beaten copper framed mirror as he didn't have enough money on him to pay outright, he paid a deposit and I put his name on back. A dealer came directly he left and removed the name took mirror to cash desk and and attempted to pay for it but I called out not for sale. He tried to accidentally !!!! Drop it when arguing over fact. It was not for sale.
@@amsodoneworkingnow1978 Haha! That's terrible. If you managed a charity shop, I'm sure you've seen all aspects of picker personalities. Is your username tied to that job? If so, that's hilarious!!!
I've also learned..if you don't get steamed..and just look around. You can still find good stuff ..its happened to me a 1000x ...shes steaming and will most likely not buy a thing
I have no clue how you had that much patience with that woman. I really felt like she was playing you. I actually expected that she had taken the Kobe out of that box while you were turned around to buy it. I give you credit; you are a saint. Good score for you!
Damn good job. Yeah that lady had no boundaries. You dig in a box she gets close and starts grabbing stuff out the box youre looking in. Then the conversation of what kinda card she had and was so sad she couldn't say it out loud just had me kinda wondering wtf was going on.
"Your looking for baseball right. I want what you want." Lady really was scoping out what you thought had value just so she can try to buy it. Then proceeded to pretend those are what she came for, she just really wanted them after seeing Michael and Kobe lol. I don't understand how some people don't get embarrassed at their own actions.
Thanks for posting your videos, I enjoy the quiet descriptions while you’re shopping around. I see you using an app on your phone, can I ask which one you use?
Once you mentioned cards she came over and practically ripped that box out of your hands then pretty much followed you around. She was super creepy, and I think she’s a hoarder. For someone collecting from the 70’s on, she was handling those cards pretty rough. Also, I love how she started really putting the cards over once you guys started to discuss a price
I hated when I saw her basically drop them to the ground to line them up. I would have said nope, you’re done looking at them right there and then. Intentional or not, you already said you wanted to buy them so shouldn’t have let her look into the box
@@duncreg she’s a weirdo bruh talkin about “ohhh i used to have these special cards back in the 1800s but i can’t talk about it too much pain do ya really wanna know? ohhh nevermind too much pain👵🏻” get yo crotchety ass outta here before i float you in a box down the river grandma
I'm a new subbie and have been binge watching. Man you have a lot of patience. That lady was so rude. You already had it in your pile and she is still touching it. She is too much.
It really really bothered me when she started reaching inside those boxes you put aside. You were so patient and kind with her. I would have been smacking her hands away once I mentioned I was interested in buying the whole box!! So rude!!
