I'd add don't expect the Portuguese to speak whatever your native language is. A British lady we know constantly complains about the wait staff not being able to speak English at the restaurants she goes to. Trick to the book store in Porto is to buy your ticket online and you can just go right in. You also get a book of your choice as well with the ticket price.
It’s most definitely a beautiful space, however, I might argue that most people wouldn’t know about it if there weren’t that association. Would some, definitely… but I would be willing to bet the numbers would be smaller…
