I have never had to “get out” of a situation on the highway on a motorcycle! A ninja 250 has plenty of balls to get out of the way! It’s 0-60 is faster than my car and it will do 100mph! If there are any beginners watching this, don’t listen to him!

Any 250. Has bigger balls to Get out if the way because they are smaller, lighter and easier to control than bigger and heavier bikes... I never listen to the tubers who down talk anything less than a 600 lol my opinion smaller bikes are just as good but better to move around in certain situations to avoid being hit. No matter what the tubers say the highway is safest for bikes than all the stop and go traffic dandan the fireman can explain the situation better

It's a bad idea to try to power away from unsafe cars - Most of the time. It's really unsafe to do it at speeds faster than a 250 can go AND be a newer rider. I ride a FJR1300 and if I lived in a big city - I would consider a 250.

This guy is on RU-vid encouraging riders to ride above their limit. I own a GSX250R and don't have a reason to get a large displacement bike, and most larger bikes cost about the same as a new car or more. As long as I can do 70-80mph on the highway I'm happy 😊

It's all about having fun. The bike scene has been filled with "showoff's" and "what cc is your bike" guys. I agree this guy is a genuine idiot for telling people not to start on a 250. He rides a beginner 500 for alot more $ which really isn't a whole lot more bike than a 250. Wonder why he just didn't go to a 600 if he is such a good rider lol.

"Getting out of a situation" is the (cough, cough) reasoning behind this view point. Shouldn't your head be on a swivel on ANY bike? Shouldn't you not be putting yourself in sketchy situations on ANY bike? Couldn't someone pull right out in front of you on ANY bike? Get what you're comfortable with, and use common sense. That's what the advice should have been. And that's advice, not a personal opinion as offered in this video.
@weezal112
@weezal112 4 года назад
I have to disagree. Just my opinion but I am an experienced rider and I just went from a yzf1000 to a hyosung 250 gdr and I have more fun on the 250 then the 1000. And I have no problem on the highway. I still have enough get up and go at 70 mph and it doesn't start bogging down until I get to around 85-90. But I've topped out at 110 on this little 250. That is fast enough for anyone. It's also lighter, quicker to stop and still has good acceleration. A 250 is great for beginners and experienced riders alike. This again is my opinion, but they are also a blast to ride.
@weezal112
@weezal112 4 года назад
@Bo on the r1 it could go fast..... That's it. It was expensive, guzzled gas, it was heavy, well heavier, the insurance was abysmal, the aftermarket parts on it cost a fortune, and I was actually afraid if I ever laid it down God forbid. On the 250 I don't care. It's cheap to fill the tank and lasts for a while, insurance costs $3 a year, I could actually do wheelies and fun stuff without worrying, it goes fast enough for the road, I don't care if I accidentally laid it down, it didn't cost much to buy it. It's light and I can throw it around and it is just so much more carefree to ride on. So no I didn't need the cocaine to enjoy it more.

@@ICCSWAGG I own a Kymco K-Pipe. Not sure I'd buy it again knowing the dealearship network in my area was going to collapse. However learning on it really was nice, it sits like a full size bike, which for a USA 125cc bike is a rarety. $2k for it with a 2 year warranty really was pretty cool, but like I already mentioned earlier about Kymco collapsing in my area, I'd definitely look at something Japanese like a VanVan200. I'm thinking about a BMW 310R for my next new bike.

@twotone3471
@twotone3471 3 года назад
@@ICCSWAGG What made the Kymco easy to learn on is the size of its wheels. the Grom and Z125 have scooter size wheels/tires, and as a result, they handle like scooters on the road. So no, they are not identical, the K-Pipe is a Chinese Motorcycle sold worldwide (Mostly to 3rd world markets) where 125cc is considered a mid size motorcycle. The Grom/Z125 are sold as toys for wealthy countries. That said though the Z125 is faster, though if you look at European Motorcycles, which can be 30 MPH faster with the same size motors, the crap technology we are sold on in the USA shows. Our import laws lead most motorcycle manufacturers to import/manufacture the same model of motorcycle for decades, and they have no real incentive to really improve. Take Harley Davidson vs Indian motorcycles. The Indian is better in every performance segment, yet Harley gets by with selling dinosaurs for a premium price. Our US 125cc bikes are similar, 2 valve motors (1950's technology) that don't perform. Ironically, the Kymco brand has the best bike in the segment, the Kymco Spade. If I thought Kymco wasn't Imploding, I'd recommend it.

If you are a beginner, a 250cc bike is the biggest bike you should get, unless you are the size of the incredible hulk. But you absolutely DO NOT want to get a crotch rocket OF ANY DISPLACEMENT. Crotch rocket style bikes, even slow ones, are very hard to ride because of their riding position. The design is based on roadrace bikes, with super low bars (that will kill your arms, shoulders, and neck) and worse yet, footpegs that are about where the rear turn signals should be. With the footpegs being so far back and so high, when your feet are on the pegs, your toes are basically pointing straight down, not forward like they should be. Along with the super low bars, this makes a crotch rocket style bike very clumsy and awkward in stop and go city riding. I almost dropped one a couple of times, and I am an experienced rider with close to a million miles on other, more sane types of bikes. I rolled up to a red light and stopped, and then almost fell over because I could not untangle my feet from the pegs fast enough. I made it, but just barely. This style of bike is not made for street use. It is designed for a race track, where there is no stop and go, no having to put your feet down, and you are going so fast that the wind helps hold you up, taking some of the strain off your arms and shoulders. You still have neck issues, because with the bars being so low, with your neck straight, you are looking straight down. To see where you are going (ahead) you have to keep your neck bent all the way back, as far as it will go. Like walking around looking up at the sky. That gets real painful real fast What you want is a 250cc cruiser or standard, with an upright seating position, where the seat supports most of your weight, you can see forward with your neck straight, the bars are high enough that they don't support your upper body weight, and the pegs well forward, so your feet go on top of them, with your toes pointing forward, making it very easy to remove your feet from the pegs and put them on the ground. 2016 or earlier Honda Rebel 250s, Yamaha V-Star 250s, Suzuki TU250s and S40s make very good beginner friendly bikes. Going fast is the last thing a beginner should be concerned with. Just ride away from fast traffic until you get some experience.

I'll admit it's not always ideal but my rebel250 does just fine on the highway.. honestly, 60-70mph is usually fine. I've ridden for 16 years and just prefer smaller bikes. Spending years on scooters and mopeds taught me a lot about defensive driving and how to stay away from most common "situations" and in turn I've never felt "underpowered" with the 250. Sure power let's you fly away from things but they almost always could have been avoided in the first place. I also feel just fine with a 70cc on roads up to 40 or so. It was terrifying early on but Everytime I had a close call, I just asked myself of how I could avoid it happening again.. regardless of whos fault it was. These incidents got rarer and rarer until the point where they basically never happen. My rule with any bike is to ride like I'm invisible. This mostly means always being ready to stop at intersections, stay out of blind spots and always be aware of where a car might decide to place itself.

My first bike was an 08 ninja 250 and I put 16k miles on it between late 09 to early 10’, it demonstrated throttle response, bike handling power to weight ratio, and easy light weight for corner maneuvering. Don’t listen to anyone “get a 600 650, or just get a liter bike so you won’t have to sell and buy”. Learn with something small and simple, after that get whatever you like after throttle handling experience.

LOL! This dude has no idea how to ride a 250. I got my 2008 Ninja 250 brand new and rode it every single day for years. Didn’t even own a car and lived directly off the Interstate in San Diego, commuting daily into downtown via I-15 and CA-163. Eventually I moved back to Georgia and got a car but for four years of daily commuting in SoCal I passed everyone I ever wanted to pass and never got showed up unless it was another sportbike or exotic car showing off. Even at freeway/Interstate highway speeds I could accelerate out of anything… just throw it down a gear or two and twist. Similarly, I blasted my way out of traffic at every stoplight. The cars simply could accelerate like I could. Up to 100MPH pretty much no car could touch me… and I was a tall and heavy dude. It doesn’t redline until 13k RPM. The rev range is huge. Use it! Accelerate to redline, shift, accelerate to redline, shift again, repeat. You will literally scare yourself with the acceleration and power. …and to think: My 2008 Ninja 250 had less power than the 1988-2007 model and weighed more. Anyone who says a 250 isn’t safe on the freeway/highway/Interstate is full of it.

I'm 5'8 145 and when tucked on the highway I can ride at 100mph no problem, and she is a comfortable ride at 70mph for daaaaaays. Like the dudes comment above I just ride the right lane on high way, keep your head on a swivel and you will be good to go. I got it in green.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you. It all depends on what your using the bike for. The 250cc bike is fine for city riding and country stretches. I agree with you about taking it on the highway. I think you should have at least a 600cc for being on the highway. I've heard of people taking 250cc motorcycles on the highway . There are a lot of mix opinions on that. A bike should be able to do at least 115 to 130mph on the highway.
@SavioureG

In Europe the speed limit on highways is 130kmh (around 87mph in murica unit) with the exception of Germany, in this case 250cc is quite capable of highway travel (a Kawasaki 250R max speed is 150kmh (100mph) which is more than enough). Not that this video makes a point, most 250cc bikes are sports bikes and sports bikes in general are terrible for long distance travel since they are not very comfortable, for long distance in generally I would take my car.
@rustybeatty6567
@rustybeatty6567 4 года назад
It all depends on the gearing of the transmission and sprocket setup a 20 to 50 setup would work just fine for highway speeds because it would better match the tire size and give you a 2.5 to 1 final drive ratio and acceleration wouldn't be compromised as much to.

The Nighthawk has done everything from milk runs to buzzing on the interstate. It is quite comfortable at 70 mph with another 15 in reserve. Oh, and as somebody noted a 250 Ninja is no dog. @2WheelPursuit
@2WheelPursuit 2 года назад
My point was not so much that 250's can not reach high top speeds of 100mph or more. My point was that 250's simply don't have the torque to get out of sketchy situations at freeway speeds. I have had a KLX250 and even a DRZ400 and frankly would try to avoid the freeway at all costs due to them lacking power to get away if someone decides to do some weird maneuver on the freeway that might kill me. My 250 would definitely go from 60 to 100mph, but it would take like 20 seconds to do so. In contrast, my ZX10R would make that in about 2 seconds and I would be out of harms way and on to whats next. The flip side of this is that bikes with more torque for passing or getting out of trouble on the freeway often are much less friendly to new riders at low speeds due to the extra torque. I still think a 250 is pretty weak for the highway and can leave you in sketchy situations, but then again I live in Rhode Island where people love to cut across all 4 lanes of freeway without a turn signal and cut you off just to make their exit. The average speed people drive on the freeway here is also 80-90 MPH, so I am sure it isn't like that everywhere. In many ways I think 250's are great, just not when it comes to freeway riding.

I've read everybody's . Comments I think that this guy has a valid point he's emphasizing on is the fact you don't really pack the passing power with a 250 ...cc... At the same time I believe that you should be able to make sure highway runs.. I'm going to buy a 250 falcon myself this coming week I made the decision that I am not going to get on 95 or anything like that but I'll get on short routes and use route 1 to make my commute...

Actually 250cc is a pretty good first bike. All my friends started 250cc as their first bike and they didn't have any problems with that. 250cc is a sweet spot for a beginner bike and for everyday use.

We all have our opinions. I just started back riding and in the position of importing Chinese Motorcycles. My first bike was Honda CBR 929. I started back riding in March of 2022 since 2016. I purchased a 125cc street legal and just purchased a sample vitacci titan 250cc and I love it. I don't put myself in situations like riding on the interstate but I have been in situations where cars have pulled out in front of me. That perception of people always think that "since he's on a motorcycle he can speed up or brake fast. I recommend a 250cc for anybody that's a beginner and if you're reading this I can help you purchased one and I'll warrantee it.

I bought a 50cc moped fpr my first bike- Yes laughable but that thing could go a maximum of 60mph so on surface streets to work I used to go about 50 which was technically, almost considered speeding as most are 45mph. 150-250cc bike os more than adequate if on surface streets but not highway speeds.

I wanted to start on a 5 or 600 but when i got on the 250 i relized that those would have just been allot to learn on, i know plenty of situations where i messed up and if not for that bike being so forgiving i definitely would've crashed, i think had that been a bigger bike itd be pretty messed up by now. Also it just sounds so good

@@andressierra448 yeah, I think having the 250 showed me how to to properly control the bike at manageable speeds I feel like if I had allot more power it'da been allot harder to learn on, but I did ride an r1 around a parking lot recently and it was pretty comparable at low speeds so I think the 250 is a good option, I am looking to upgrade soon to a 600 or 750 tho, after riding on the highway for a while It does fine i would like a little more passing power tho

My slightly moded 07 ninja 250 (which is carburetor and has 6 speeds) does 108mph and 0-60mph is 6.8-7.0 seconds. That's a lot faster than most car. From red light to red light it beat my boys 2013 mustang that had a huge v8 pushing 500+ hp and he paid $32,000 for lol I paid $340 for mine and put another $500 into it and some time. Cheap and quick in the real world you are barley going to go over 100mph anyways.

So if anyone in MA is looking for a 250cc hit me up. But back to the point. A Honda Rebel 500 is a great starter motorcycle. A 250cc motorcycle can get to 75 to 80 mph but it takes a significant amount of time to do so because most 250cc motorcycle's are under 20 horsepower and usually have only 5 speed manual transmission but some can 6 speed manual transmission and are geared for city riding because of the final drive ratio why is because the front socket is usually a 15 tooth with a 47 to 50 tooth rear sprocket witch is not good for highway speeds but is good for city riding because you have more acceleration than top speed and are meant for higher mpg's but can be changed for highway speeds but the engine is usually maxed out running in 5th gear in 5 speed motorcycle's and running at 6500 to 7000 RPM's and for 6 speed motorcycle's it in 6th gear and running over 5500 RPM's have fun trying to pass a semi truck with a 35 mph headwind at 70 mph that the motorcycle is traveling with only 250cc in displacement and rider weight can hinder top speed as well.

It handles on the highways very good since it's so heavy but sadly can't pop that wheelies so easily, but that's ok I don't find it a problem the sound of the engine at 8k-9k rpm is like a 600cc so deffinetly Honda CBR 500r is meant for learners.

Here in Pennsylvania people on 78 and 81 interstates drive about 90 miles an hour so like 250 would be not a good idea for that kind of interstate ride. Unless you got on an interstate ramp and two miles down the highway you can get off right away. For those tractor trailers how much do they weigh you know I mean without a load and they're doing like 85 miles an hour you don't want to be a human speed bump
