You know yam while you are punching down on Chinese bikes you should get the lifan kpx250 from venom too! I was hard thinking about getting that bike before just spending extra money on a midsize Adv bike but still curious about it
To think I actually considered one of these China bikes as a first bike LOL. I too ended up with the "standard beginner bike" Ninja 400. It makes this thing look like a bird scooter 😂
My very first car was a 1990 VW Polo Mk II with 55 rampant horse-power. It was by no means a fast car, but it would've eaten that Chinese Superbike for breakfast. From the numbers and from what I can see in the videos, this thing has holiday-rental-scooter/Honda SuperCub performance.
I'm waiting for the inevitable freakout from Venom once they discover these videos and how badly their plan to bribe a positive review out of you backfired
If I had this bike the first thing I'd do is change the tach so that, instead of numbers, it was just random pictures. "Yeah bro, the bike redlines at toaster, but you should probably shift at milk carton to stay in the power". Then I'd convert the speedo to it's natural measurements, "hectares per sidereal day"
@@STOPPEDINCOLORADO"SuperBike 250cc Fuel-Injected Motorcycle | BD250-5 " This was their previous title after yam called them out, it's still available on a few old dropshippy sites
You forget the price range of these rebranded Venom bikes, you can get a brand new bike from Venom in the range of $2,000-$3,300 depending on which one you pick. A ninja 250 used are selling around 3K, the new model that was supposed to be released this year was set to approximately $4,920. I personally don’t regret my Venom as a starter bike.
Same, and online people always say "buy a cheap used bike" and it's a lie for many of us. In my area everyone sells used bikes at MSRP ever since COVID. Everyone today feels entitled to their full money back for bikes with tons of miles on them. People have lost their minds.
Very common on Chinese bikes. My first bike was Chinese and I thought people were speeding like crazy because according to my speedo I was going the speedlimit and people were aggressively passing me. It overreports by about 20%
Yea, But you can get a decent spedo on any modern phone now. There's like so many app's and I've tested them. My current china bike is maybe off by like 4-5 MPH. This dude just went way to hard on this bike TBH. If your buying a china bike you know it's not gonna be be the best shiz. And on the old head's who ride have a stick up there ass of about the brand's they rep. And let's be real here. if you aint riding a china bike you prob are loaded or older and maybe loaded. Can't even get a Navi for under 5.4k in Austin out the door. And it's that or buy used. And I've run into less issues with china bike's then I ever did with used one's. Just don't be dumb and buy something online then go and ride it with zero knowledge on how to inspect your gear/bike. If your young you will NEVER be able to finance a bike, So.... I learned how to tune my china bike's to how I like them.
I got a bike from Venom, years before this video. Its a Lifan brand, got 7K miles on it now, I just do regular maintenance, fluids, chain adjustment, spark plug, valve clearance adjustment. Still zero issues, its a tank. Lol!
Well, it's a Lifan after all as opposed to the other bikes on Venom. I too bought from them a Lifan KPM200 and it's awesome. However I'm worried about buying any non-Lifan bikes from them.
Cant imagine anyone actually buying these bikes compared to used reputable brand, specially when comes to parts and service information. Quite competitive market
Your tachometer is counting electric pulses to the sparkplug so, since it is a four stroke engine, there will be two revolutions for each count in your tachometer.
This comment is correct, spark ignites once per cycle and 4 strokes are two full rotations of the crankshaft. If this was a two stroke engine then the ignition would be equivalent to the rotation.
@@yammienoob It doesn't rev up to 11k, but it does get to 10k just like a CRF230 does. The rest of the review, about the overall crapfullness of the thing is spot on. But you did mess up on that one.
CHALLENGE: Take the price difference between this bike and a new Ninja 250 and see if you can improve this bike with it, make it more fun to ride than the Ninja, or cooler.
Is the tachometer set for a 2 stroke engine measuring the rpm as every power stroke for one revolution of the engine? A 4-stroke would have 2 revolutions of the crank and could be why the rpm is about half of what is claimed. The tacho yam put on is getting the signal from the ht lead.
I came here to say the same thing. Obviously his mechanical skills match his over expectations. All being said, I've got a lovely old CM250T that can hit 90mph all day, 0-60 less than 10 seconds, and over 40 years old.
@@derekm6236even when he revved it in the parking lot it definitely did reach 6k, 3k doesn't sound like that on a single cylinder, I think the Trail tech gauge is set for a wasted spark system
No dude these are cdi engines and they dont have cam position sensors they spark every revolution. you think the pick up coil ignores the contact on the flywheel every other revolution somehow??
Well done, bro...more people need to start doing honest reviews of these cheap Chinese garbage bikes. 😏 I swear, it's like we have to constantly remind folks that you ALWAYS "get what you pay for."
My thoughts exactly, maybe he used the bicycle thingy for mileage as well as speed? It would be good to get that clarified though, as an overly optimistic odometer would mean even worse fuel mileage!
Lol yes it does. 😂 I have a BD-125 and before I corrected the Speedo it was 50% off making a 10 mile run look like 15! The manual recommends a 500 km break in period. I wonder if that is their miles or actual miles lol.
‼️ I DO NOT RECOMMEND ‼️ You would think a brand new motorcycles would last more that 4 months My perchase was a sportster chopper 250cc I received the motorcycle on April 19, 2023 the motorcycle had 5 damaged/ broken parts to it and when I received it. I called/emailed in about it and it was all a hassle. They proceeded to tell me that the the "warranty" only covers shipping of any replacement items after the first month. I recently called about a clutch cable that snapped in 4 months of owning the motorcycle and they sent the wrong replacement (still charged $24 shipping) and when I inquire they say it was installed incorrectly. (I had a motorcycle mechanic instal it) they refuse to assist and ship correct item and say you need to wait 24-48 hours to speak to a manager. ‼️ I DO NOT RECOMMEND ‼️
With a Chinese clone engine.... probably would either shred the insides of the engine or bolts would break and you wouldn't be able to put it back together
Bro i had this exact bike in the uk but 50CC (still with twin discs) and imagine how i felt in the hilliest part of the world! Had it for 2 months and sold for an aprilia 2 stroke, never regretted it
@@MieczyslawPawelKolenda not in California! its insane I have reported them to the DMV as well. I was a dummy to purchase a bike from them and this exact thing happened to me, I weigh 170 and when I started to incline I lost so much power, I thought I was going to get smashed. They lie so much on their site. "400lbs without compromising performance" ya.......................................................
Everything you've said in this video, I concur. I own a Honda Super Cub AND a CSC San Gabriel "250", which is a rebranded ZongShen just like this Venom bike. Honestly, if they made a 150cc version of a Honda Super Cub, I'd gladly take that on the highway over this deathtrap. The first night I got it back, the centerstand spring just fell off, and I didn't realize it until the next morning. All throughout, the mirrors kept rattling so bad, I couldn't see anything behind me, and at random, the gears get stuck and you end up stalling because you can't put it back down in first from a fully stopped position. The spedometer is indeed 10% than your actual speeds. Save your money and your time.
It's amusing to note, that when the Japanese (notably Honda) first started appearing (mostly UK I'm guessing, don't know how they were received in the States) they were scoffed at. Much like we do with incoming Chinese bikes such as this. BUT the Japanese machines were well built AND reliable. They had to be. Either the Chinese manufacturers will work that out, or not.
Japanese competed on quality and reliability, Chinese compete on being dirt cheap. When it inevitably breaks you just throw the POS away and buy a new one.
Some of the Chinese manufacturers are pretty reliable these days. But generally the build quality of smaller manufacturers like zongshen are still complete dogshit unlike CFMOTO or QJ
Your tachs are perfectly synced, it’s counting electric pulses and it’s a four stroke with a wasted spark so it’s perfect spot on. Just multiply by two or change settings on your new tach
Is it a good starter bike? As far as balance weight and part price. I don’t mind if the speed is like a scooter just need a good reliable backpack starter bike
yammie, i'd like to thank you for potentially saving me thousands of dollars. at one point early in my quest for my first motorcycle i looked into this bike company/others similar. not anymore.
@@sverremoe4087 knew absolutely nothing about motorcycles/scooters when i first came onto the scene and these "look" the coolest for their price. obviously looks mean nothing
Cheaping out aint wrong, but know what you buy. Brands like CFMoto, GPX and Kove are rather cheap brands, from china, and have a good reputation. Given that GPX and Kove use Zongshen engines in some of their models (which I have plenty of experience with, they're really solid) there is nothing to worry about. But no name brands and small displacement? Usually a big no. When you see such a bike, the only good thing is usually the engine, because by the time you can properly review it without killing yourself, the bike either has been worked on or has broken.
bro... my first motorcycle was a chinese 750$ 50cc scooter when i was a kid. sadly i didnt know anything but i sold it nearly immediately and didnt lose much money. im NEVER EVER gonna buy a chinese motorcycle again. i see how it is possible for someone to buy one tho... and its sad
I' ll still buy it. The perfomance is not really important, reliability is. Too many RU-vidrs just want to trash products for views. Thanks for the honest info but the slant is not needed
Well I almost died today. Some kid pulled right out in front of me while I was doing 50. Tried braking but there wasn’t enough distance. I hit the back brakes a little too hard and skid but I think that allowed me to steer left and escaped into the middle lane. I locked eyes with the kid after I skid by him. He had the “oh crap” face and kept going. I pulled over to catch my bearings. I’d like to thank all the motorcycle youtubers. Stay safe
@PapaYammie01 told me you had somehting special for me too and all it was pictures of his hairy bunghole. It wasn't special at all 😢. 0/10 don't recommend.
Did you want to talk about Chinese motorcycles here? I think cf moto isn’t bad. How bout you? Any experience with Chinese motorcycles? Were you planning on getting one til you watched this 8 month old video?
@@johnstiles6663 I'm certainly not interested in your bs near miss story, but as you ask, I've had a few Chinese bikes brought to my shop and yes, they're every bit as rubbish as this one and no, I'm not thinking of buying one in the same way as I'd never buy a Hardley Ableson. Perhaps your story might go down better on one of those crash compilations?
To be fair I probably did put it on one of dans videos. Idk it was 8 months ago. Yes I’ve had Chinese stuff in my shop too. They suck. I have only had a cf moto 4 wheeler come in tho no bikes and I was kinda impressed with cf moto. It’s not as reliable as Japanese but you do get a lot of features for the money. I don’t like Harley’s either. I probably will never buy a cf moto tho. I like Japanese bikes. Only ever owned kawasaki but mostly because of right place right time and abundance in my area
I was about to order a venom because they are cheap. I've never had a bike and I want something cheap and easy to ride but not lies. I'm still looking.
Remove all of the plastic fairings, fenders, and the seat. Replace the EFI with a carburetor. Put metal full fenders on both wheels. Put a springer seat on it. Put long bicycle style handlebars on it. Give it just an analog speedometer. Call it a JANUS and charge $10,000.
idk if ur rpm reader is right bcus its a 4 stroke so surely it only reads the spark every 2 revolutions so then the rmp meter would be right or am i wrong?
Bro that break down was incredibly awesome..class was definitely in session...I learned alot today..now I wanna challenge venom to ask them what am I really paying clearly 🤔 they lied on everything I hope they go down with the price also
@@vintageludwig What I describe are the only correct ways to do it.But many (most?) motorcycle manufacturers routinely round the displacement to a nominal number for ease in describing an engine, not the exact number. This includes Honda.
I want to know what can be done to it to make it a respectable bike. Can you hone the engine and install a larger piston. Update the PCM, and even update the sprockets. Looking forward to the dyno tests.
no it is a two valves those engines have low air admission, they are made for stable torque not horsepower, this engine is what it is, good for offroading, not on road
I'm so grateful that you, of all the producers I watch put out not only one but several videos shitting on this bike. I honestly almost bought one. Thanks.
I guess my question is about the MPG, did you use the inaccurate mileage from the stock speedo or the mileage from the good GPS? As the speedo being off that far 20% (50 claimed 40 actual) would be 41.7MPG or there about.
That alson means that people are not getting the number of miles they think they are! So if they say they have 500 miles on the bike they only really have about 450 or less!
I have a 2020 KP Mini from Venom and now have 14,000 miles. Nibbi carb, ported intake, full exhaust, tires, chain, front and rear sprocket, all done before 250 miles. Im in like $4000. And it's been great. It's a 2006-2017 crf150 clone engine from lifan and it's better than Honda IMHO. I love the sight glass lol. I've had mine to 94 mph (gps, and follower) with gauge showing 100+. I only get about 45mpg with a 1.4g tank and that sucks. The fuel gauge is also wildly off. Shows empty flashing at half tank. BUT my bike is heavily modified guys. And I've had a great time making it a custom.
Honestly, have your fun with this POS and then get rid of it. This bike needs to be eliminated, take it to a range, send some lead down said range and hasta la vista baby 👍🏻
I'm wondering if your Tachometer was set to 2 cylinder, so it was reading in half? I can deal with the speedometer being off that much, all speedometers have errors (maybe not THAT much). But a tachometer being off by 1/2 is too insane (even for a Chinese bike)...
tacho seems to be correct, i think you didn't install or set up the hour meter probably. Zongshen 200-230-250 engines are rated up to 9000rpm. My old Apollo RX250(zongshen 250 Liquidcooled engine) could hit 10K, measured with a laser rpm meter and a piece of white tape on the crankshaft.
Buy yourself a cheap smaller bike that's already been dropped. It won't hurt as much (emotionally)when you eventually drop it yourself. Any of the major brands will be ok. I wouldn't trust any Chinese made bike even if it was a known brand behind it.
No @ PunkRock101 you are better off with a kick ass bicycle, gives more dignity. I have a "Specialized" bicycle I love to ride when I can't twist the throttle.
I love the fact that you’re calling these douche bags out! It’s what’s needed cause there are people buying these pieces of garbage, can you imagine how pissed off he would be if you bought one of these got those results
Even my 1986 Honda CB 250 RS did 0-60 (0-100 km/h) in 9.0, and had 26 hp. Mind you, it had 4 valves and 2 exhaust ports (people thought it was a twin because of this). I think it was pretty much the same engine as on the CL 250, but with a valve lifter that made it easier to kickstart (only the Deluxe model had an electric starter).
Didn't it occur to you that there might be a clue in that the rpm measured was about half what was indicated on the bike's rev counter ? The engine is a 4 stroke and sparks once for each TWO revs of the engine. Did you allow for that in setting up your tacho ???
Better then any small engine bikes honda is putting out. Google frame welds or quality for Hondapower sports 2022 or 2023. Why is Honda still giving you halogen bulbs in your blinkers and headlights ? You're paying the premium shouldn't you get full LEDs?
Back in 2000 i had a Derbi GPR-50R a 50cc 2 stroke. It's max speed was 62mph in perfect conditions, even it could get there in 19 seconds. On a 50cc, 24 years ago, man this sucks.
OK, now do some performance upgrades that will add some HP, that would be a fun video for sure! Just 3-5 HP and some more toque will make the bike feel 10x better... I wonder if with $500 in upgrades you can get closer to a ninja 250?
you cant add 3 to 5 hp to that crap. first its single cam 2 valves low compression engine. maybe with a nitro kit if you want it to last 2 minutes. how can you ask for "just" 5 hp on a engine that produce 15 hp. it clearly show that like most people here , you dont mechanics at all
Did he check to see if the throttle was actually cracking the carb fully open? The fact that he didn't see over 6k rpms makes me think that the throttle cable adjustable might not have been right...because the Chinese make lots of clone engines and they typically perform similar to what they copy, just with less longevity.
Idk I got a Kpx250 and it's decent to learn on and the folks at Venom have been great whenever I needed anything or had a problem I think they are decent for what they offer.
Didn't it occur to you that there might be a clue in that the rpm measured was about half what was indicated on the bike's rev counter ? And why didn't you use 4th. and 5th.gear instead of roaring along at about 10,000 rpm?
Your rpm meter is not true, you have to sensor the crankshaft and not the ignition on a 4-stroke. Thats why the bikes rpm is twice your meters, the engine turns 2 times/ignition.
Hi Jammie . I bought a boom almost 3 month didn’t send me a correct address on title till now cannot registration bike . They said on web advertising 250 cc efi w water cooling . I make sure asking is it water cooling I use cooling fluid said yes . But after open box no water cooling radiator , missing side wing panel screw text to ask for not answer , now I realize almost everything like you said so disappointing w china bike , thnk you very much , we know more about ,
If they lowered the price/stripped it down and marketed it as an honest beginner's bike rather than a false superbike, it would probably be pretty decent for someone like me.
What's really bonkers is that I have a 110cc Honda Navi, and 0-30 looks way too close to that Venom, which is just unacceptable for a 250. It should be at 60 not too long after I get to 30.
