Don't Hit the Trees. (On Our Way to Alaska) 

Thank you for watching! We heard the Inside Passage gets pretty busy during summer but we're really enjoying the solitude of the winter and all the beautiful anchorages!

Canadians have better forecasts for the areas serviced by the ferry system but they are still not great. It's a very difficult area to deal with meteorologically and so sparsely populated that the investment in more weather stations isn't warranted. So many of those areas have their own unique microclimate that is influenced by the unique currents, tides and vegetation. Thank you for taking us along for the ride, it's such a lovely little piece of the planet.

Even the most hard core sailors find themselves motoring about 50 percent of them on the Inside Passage, due the timing of the tidal currents, and weather, etc.. This a beautiful region to cruise.

Wonderful video! I drive tugboats up and down that route and as far as weather forecasting, I've found that Windy is accurate (in Canada and Alaska) when you put it in gust mode for the wind.

@Alluring Arctic Sailing Good luck and be careful. The big dangers in Alaska is that you are just super isolated. Even in the summer, many cruisers go with a group or at least a friend, because often there is no one that will come to your rescue for potentially days. Even in the summer, fog can make it impossible for seaplanes to land for days. Williwaw's are also big concern in the winter. Parts of BC and Alaska also just shutdown in the winter, so it can be hard to find fresh supplies. Additionally, charts are often out of date, and don't have rocks or silt. Like many things, it often comes down to luck. Another bummer about heading to Alaska too early is you miss out on much of the wildlife. Alaska is simply amazing in the summer.

I live in the San Juan islands at the south end of Vancouver Island, and this winter has been the winter of gales, but also in and amount the gales some amazing and very unusual calm days. So glad you found one of those calm days for your passage through the exposure. The prevailing wind in winter would blow you right up onto the cape if a normal winter day. So happy for you, love your channel!
