Agreed! It shows just how powerless they really are. I hope in the (true) finale, all three of them will see what's above the stairs of the Woman in the Attic.
the fact that it ends with the horrifying reality that the trio are stuck in this actual nightmare and they are blissfully unaware of the horrify nature of their world as the chances of us getting answers to the secrets of this show gets ripped away from us as the camera zooms to show an endless room that is never escapable then it just goes and plays that goofy ass song as the credits roll now that is how you end the first season of a series

That room with the Woman in the Attic was clearly another test the Trio needed to pass, but Yellow Guy failed because he was alone in that scene. He needs both Duck and Red Guy to move forward and finally figure out what's really going on.
She gave yellow guy the one way to escape, but the duck replaced his batteries with the old ones, making him dumb. So Leslie is basically giving him the way to escape but he shreds it.
I was thinking along the lines that yellow guy was in the first room which was supposed to represent ‘gifted’ courses & often misunderstood pedagogical styles that ensue (the same material but more of it) so then he climbed up & got to a room of people using the scientific method presumably using STEM/STEAM (though that might be a stretch) which was equally as tied to the human experience & pitfalls of the education system so he continued up & got to religion which was overt with the church windows & piano also condescending vague tone, slightly malicious intent & using prophesy/predeterminism as a shield because yellow guy was confused he mistook the room as mentally stimulating and this showcases no one is above falling into religion/cult especially when yellow guy was looking for something that stimulated him beyond material reality. The next stairway he didnt go to because he presumably couldn’t go up it as it didnt exist in the room while he was there (it opened when he left). Maybe he was supposed to come back?
When Yellow guy came back, his friends took his ENERGY to power the house for their entertainment, out of pure selfish reason. And Yellow guy simply agrees on that while he shreds the book. HERE IS THE THING: IF Yellow guy would LEAVE, he would read the book and then he would have power. But he is instead drained by his friends. In order to keep up this symbiotic friendship he chooses joy over power. ( If you say there is no way out then look closely at 20:49 ) In the very last scene you can clearly see how everyone just lets go of everything in life and just lives day by day without even the slightest attempt of thought. Right in the scene before Yellow guy questioned reality itself and all existence. But as Yellow guy shreds his will to learn ... they go back to normal again. They just wait until they're dead and have fun at it. But the book ... Yes ... I wonder what's inside there. Sadly I as well will never know as I shred it in hysteric laughter. In my beloved shredder. Shreeeeeedeeeeeraaah *sing*
One last thing: The teachers are far more sentient. In the old show they just show up and get angry, but the teachers in this episode seem to be capable of not needing to teach, mainly the Insurance safe.
I do think it was a part of their comedy that they were just there like there was no reason they just kept showing up cause they were all annoying. And while I love the way they do things now I think it would be funny if they made some random teachers.
20:49 Even the creators chamber has stairs which lead up further. Great show. Against all reason, in the attic, there suddenly are stairs which defy reality as we know it.
@layla.williams__ I think it would be a fourth wall break of a different sort. Leslie is responsible for the things that happen in universe and is the in universe explanation. However, Yellow briefly pierces the veil and sees puppeteers, much like Red in webisode 4. Yellow, given a somewhat satisfying answer of Leslie being the orchestrator of events, ignores this information and takes her presence at face value. What that staircase would have led to is beyond the IN UNIVERSE creator, the ACTUAL Creators of the show.
I love how when yellow guy goes ‘wrong’ red guy is comforting duck, like he did for yellow guy when duck died. I love it when we see that they care for each other. ❤
My interpretation: Yellow guy grew up and was too mature for the show. Sure, the show helped him grow, but now he has no need for it and needs to be entertained by other things. But without the child audience, the show fails. The ending reveals that the show's first priority is keeping the show running and second priority is the children's growth. As long as they produce thoughtless stimulating content that children will want to watch forever, then the show can stay on, and they win. Very sad, very powerful ending. And to really punch your gut, they play the goofy end music right after.
The fact that this ending is so much more disturbing than anything else in the show, even without gore, just goes to show what fantastic writing this is. Bravo.
That is true talent in bringing the character to life. I'd love to see the pedigree of some of the puppeteers in this and if they came from Henson studios or something.
THEORY TIME! i think each layer of the house above the main floor is a trap designed for each of the characters specifically. the second floor is a trap for the duck. during the entire show, the duck doesn’t appear have any motive other than recognition essentially. he wants to be praised and he wants to feel smart and important, but it doesn’t really matter HOW. that’s why he was so excited about being dead- everyone would be talking about him. which is why the second floor is designed for the “smart big boys”. the third floor is designed for the red guy. the red guys motive is control. sure, he wants to escape the house, but that’s only because the house eliminates all of his free will. he seemed perfectly happy as the boss in the jobs episode, having control over the work place. on the third floor, there are no teachers. nobody telling them what to do. they teach the lessons to themselves. they’re in control. the fourth floor is yellow guy’s trap. and we know the trap was successful, cuz he never made it to the fifth floor. (note the staircase at 20:56 that confirms there IS a fifth floor) i think yellow guy is the only character without a clear motive, simply because he’s too stupid to think freely. but the moment he gets his batteries replaced, all he wants to do is get answers. leslie lured him in with the promise of answers in the form of the book, but he never gets the answers he’s looking for. he just goes back downstairs and never even sees the fifth floor. maybe the book never had the answers. maybe it was just a red herring. a yellow herring.
I think this is a kind of "endless journey" scenario. There's not supposed to be a destination or any answers, just a Kafkaesque sense of recursive wrongness. The characters are trapped in a hell like a dream within a dream; they are always on the verge of finding out something profound about their situation but there isn't any cohesive logic underpinning any of it. It's a torture show and it's hilarious.
We were so close to having the lore of this world unraveled in this episode! Why did Duck have to take out Yellow Guy’s batteries and then allow the book to be shredded? 😖😫
Because it's funny. The difference between humor and horror is context. In essence, it's one and the same arguably. I think that's the true overall message of this series. What's scary and what's funny entirely depends on the context. In this case, It's not funny to us because of how it's presented, but to a child who misses the context, it'd be funny.
You don’t suppose the “Your not my real son” because yellow guy represents Leslies dead son, back in the death episode, the tombstone reads David while Yellow guys overall has a “D” on it In the family episode, duck has a picture of a woman and her child In the transport, the neighbor scene has yellow guy getting run over by a car and the Old man car has the license plate has Leslies name on it My theory is the Leslie is the true creator of the show and she makes yellow guy represent her son and maybe Roy can represent a abusive father or something
@@AnkaChannel8395 Remember the transport episode? Red guy could be a very close neighbor or friend that was important to yellow guy and duck guy is yellow guy's pet,or maybe I'm over thinking this
This episode feels like a literal psychedelic trip. You slowly break away from the normal things that you are concerned with day to day, feel like you start ascending to new levels of consciousness, speaking with gods/universal consciousness, and eventually return with the feeling of having gained previously unknown knowledge. Then you come back down, return to reality, and realize you're just a babbling moron like everyone else... and you discard that knowledge. But the feeling of having attained it never *quite* leaves you.
You realize at the end that as it zooms out not only have the characters lost sight of the stairs leading back up but we the audience cant see them anymore either. Yellow Guy's lost knowledge doesnt just affect his friends but it affects the viewer as well
Why did the creators of this show end the series like this?!?! IT LEFT US ON A CLIFFHANGER! With an ending like this, we better get a season 2 with a lot more answers or at least a way of escaping😦
This is season 2, remember? And istg if it takes another 11 years to get season 3 I will hunt down Becky Sloan and whatever his name was lol and MAKE IT MYSELF
4:00 duck guy: What about my shreddeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer 10x my personal shreddeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer 10x What about my shreeeeeeeeeeeder 9x Elec-tracy: yes yes! and the shredder yep.
I love how this show doesn't have the same lore as the web series, but yellow guy is still always getting screwed over. Electric chair, he has a cardboard guitar, and he's still mostly the more important character.
22:32 This ending reminds me of the last episode of Gumball where Rob was about to tell everyone what’s happening in Elmore, but they chose to ignore it and then the world started to fall apart.
@@kade-qt1zuthere is an episode of gumball that the Dhmis crew did work on but if they made that episode like a lore thing it would’ve been so much cooler
Arguable that Sketchbook was the most forgiving - she seems to be the only teacher to have any kind of development, with her swearing to “never get creative again” at the end of her song
Oh! One of my teachers read to us a little bit of that story, hasnt gotten around to reading the rest of it yet though. Yes, I do see the similarities!
I love that they stay with the concept that was displayed from the beginning, no matter what happens, they always end up back home like nothing happened.
11:33 bruh I just cannot get over the way that the duck says "big bois😎" with such confidence💀💀💀 Edit: I just finished the rest of the episode and that's honestly really sad I hate that the closer that they get to the truth it just brings them right back to where they started...
I think the 3 things on the wall in the final room are telling. The snack that only family's can have of course represent family, the shovel (and blood under it) show the death of her son (presumably by car), and the batteries in the yellow shape represent something that can be replaced, but eventually dies over time. I think this goes along with the Leslie's son's death theory. My thoughts at least
I think DHMIS is a virtual reality teaching experience for kids and Lesley is someone who trains the AI teachers. The virtual kids' avatars aren't allowed to ever leave the time loops (or the physical perimeter of the house) until they are old and mature enough. The creepy misbehaviors of the teachers are bugs that keep resurfacing because the corporate structure Lesley operates in doesn't give her enough time for proper quality control. The book yellow guy gets is the API documentation of the system all this is organized in. The symbols on the cover specify the various loops the characters can get trapped in.
This was such a stunning finale! I don't think I've ever been this pleased about a finale in my life - whoever the team is behind this show, they are KILLING it!! Coz how tf am I more scared of some puppets than Hereditary lol
22:47 this ending made me think that everything is a simulation that the woman created because we can see that the room where the three are is endless with no escape
Something I noticed about this episode was when Red Guy perfectly explained their situation in this part 18:34 " They start the next episode back at home. "
This show is soooo frickin weird crazy and funny at the same time a masterpiece even though it only has one season and twelve episodes it is a blast to watch and be confused about
"Hang on, hang on, that's wildly misleading" hahaha omfg IDK why but hearing that from Yellow Guy had me laughing way harder than it should have ! I love this episode
This episode feels like it means so much and yet I can't parse any of it. When Yellow Guy gets his batteries changed he slowly starts getting smarter, and this is symbolically represented by him moving up the stairs. The big boys / bigger boy seem smart but clearly don't have the answers he's looking for. They just waste their time gaining useless knowledge and doing useless experiments that ultimately don't lead them any closer to the truth. It feels like this is representing the search for answers through study and research, which still leaves one without the answers to the biggest mysteries about the meaning of life or whatever. So the last room with Lesley is representing a religious angle to the question he's looking to answer; with the stained glass window, piano, the sense of everything being predetermined, and her having all the power and answers like some kind of higher being. She even gives him a book, like God giving humanity the Bible. But it's unclear to me what the ending means. Did the yellow guy really forget what the book was for, or did he decide he didn't actually want answers afterall? It would sort of seem to be the latter. Like, Red Guy at first says he likes being in the dark taking a break from the "garish colors", but then he decides he wants to go back. Also, assuming this takes place after episode 5 chronologically, he spent an entire episode trying to escape the house, only to be horrified of the reality of the real world, leading to him in this episode to be upset by the idea of anything changing and desperately trying to maintain the status quo. So maybe that's what's happening with Yellow Guy here? He found the answers, but is afraid of things changing so he shreds it instead? But he was going to show them before his batteries got taken out again- so is that symbolic of this being a stupid choice? And what is the meaning of the other staircase? That there's another higher truth above the one he found? What does that mean for Lesley? And WHAT ABOUT DUCK'S SHREDDER?!
i am also uncertain of the meaning, despite there definitely seeming to be one. i think you're onto something about yellow guy deciding to keep things the same, but i'm really not sure lol. many comments are interpreting it in different differing ways?
The other staircase is a mystery. It’s probably the real truth behind everything. Lesley controls the show, all the pieces she moves around makes things happen in their world. (Guess you can think about it like God if you’re religious.) it’s predetermined. He was going to show them what was in the book while he had new batteries, (probably tells them about everything including the other staircase) but after duck switched his batteries back to the old eroded ones he became his normal stupid self again, he didn’t have the “energy” ( it went to the house) to maintain the smart yellow guy and spread his knowledge to his friends. I seen another comment on here that makes sense, She says something like “you’re not my real son…just kidding” pretty much leading to saying that Lesley had a son named David, when duck was in the grave he said his name wasn’t David, yellow guy has a “D” on his trousers so connecting things and how DHMIS throws you for a loop, it’s possible. But yeah I wanna know more!
I knew that freaking shredder was going to be a problem... XD And oh my GOD, that ending!! I CAN'T WAIT FOR A SEASON 3!! I'm VERY much concerned by that Lesley woman. Is she that universe's god? I felt kind of soothed by her, but also terrified. Also, what happened with those dead teachers on the ground? I really felt bad for them, especially Tony and the Briefcase! The moment that Red Guy and Duck had in the dark kitchen made me tear up. I'm not sure if I ship them, but it was sweet~
4:00 can we talk about how unironically hard this goes? Like most of the songs in the show are intentionally bad unlike the RU-vid videos but duck is just singing his heart out here
“No stop it! That’s not what you say! It’s you who’s gone wrong!” Dang that kinda hurts. It shows how some people change and others don’t like them anymore because they changed..
Idk if this was what they intended with the batteries analogy but that is exactly how I felt after I was finally diagnosed with ADHD and Depersonalization-derealization Disorder and given the proper medication for it.
I feel like Lesley's "YOU'RE NOT NY REAL SON" statement really is a joke. It's a play on the actual show itself. We know Yellow guy is the son, that he has a father, she's playing on the mystery that old show created and making fun of it and it's story.
I find it wierd that the central character gets younger 1 - 2 Duck which who is an elderly 3 - 4 Red Guy the adult or teen 5 - 6 Yellow Guy who is the youngest
@@RiftComix 1 - 2 the central character is the Duck, He's pretty much the majority of the screen time in episode 1 and in episode 2 the duck is the central character cuz it's mainly about him again 3 - 4 Red Guy is now the main character, in episode 3 it's focused on him wanting to leave the group and be with his family and in episode 4 it's mainly him wanting to leave the house and explore, He have the most voicelines and pretty much obviously the protagonist of the episode 5 - 6 Yellow Guy is the central, It's focused on his friends and what he wanted on friendship and in episode 6, he almost found the secret of the world cuz there still another staircase there
Alright then I'm gonna add one more opinion/analysis to the pile I feel like it's all trying to hammer down that there's a need to keep a childlike innocence to be happy. Once Yellow Guy became intelligent and more self aware, he pretty much lost all of his happy demeanor and his curiosity wasn't for trying out fun things and always aimed towards big answers to answer big questions. Lesley herself looks and acts quite like a child, changing her emotions very quickly, being annoyed when Yellow Guy isn't amused and, of course, playing with little toy versions of the characters. Yet she is an adult and consider herself a mother that is still there to guide, with the mean comment about this version of Yellow Guy not being her son is probably because him being this smart and serious isn't how she created him. To some extent it could even be argued that she gave the book but knew it would be destroyed, that way the characters can never lose all of their innocence and so, can never become super clever and serious like Yellow Guy was. Of course this little thing I did really only applies to this episode and there's a lot more things in this whole serie that would need to be added into the analysis. Buuut what makes the beauty of this show is that we don't know any of the answers for sure
I don’t know why… but I’m madly in love with this show. I started today and I’m here almost on 13. I love it but freaked out aswell.. on the weekend I’m gonna just watch this until I can’t stop! Ice cream and all! I’m really filled with sympathy for these characters. I can’t stop talking about this show!
