- In the bleak mid-winter... yet cambelt jobs still scares me!
Yes, it is cold and it will get a little colder- we are getting to the peak of it all!
So for today's 'interesting' video, we replaced an Oil Cooler for Volkswagen 1.6 TDI/2.0 TDI due to it leaking. It was then followed by diagnosing a very problematic Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 with intermittent performance loss due to oil combustion. We then went all the way to Ilford to do a Cambelt job for a subscriber and this is when things got very interesting...

Took my one year old 1.8 Focus to Dealers Ford Master Tech for the North West due to constant "knock". He assured me it was the VCT system that was naturally noisey and nothing to be concerned about. I then informed him that this particular engine doesnt have the VCT system.......Wouldnt trust "MOST" Main Dealer Techs with a push bike

I did a few of these belts and even with the crank pulley tool to line up the reluctor ring, you sometimes have to reset learned values/adaptives in the pcm - otherwise the ignition timing can be slightly out and although the car runs fine, it stops the stop start function working (background fault codes) It has been a while since I did one though, and I may have got away without resetting learned values last time 👍🏼

Gunny the Milwaukee… I’m joking! You’ve got to use flywheel locking tool by removing the starter. That way you can torque the flywheel without turning the crank

Instead of taking the piss out of customers and laughing at them why not advise the customer on what good parts to buy next time. At the end of the day they are the ones paying your wages.

@brianiswrong
@brianiswrong 5 месяцев назад
Ford redesigned the ecoboost in 2020 (?) At least the ecoboost that had a wet timing belt, Back to a chain (atleast for the timing belt,not sure about the water pump) you can tell the difference by looking for the turbo. If its at the front it's a wet belt, if it's at the back it's a chain.
@stephenreed1080
@stephenreed1080 5 месяцев назад
@themarvelousvlog they are crap to do. So much to take off, takes most of the day to do them and you need a 5x torque multipler for the crank bolt. The psa 1.2 turbo is a much easier wetbelt to do

@@themarvelousvlogtransit ecoblue quite a nice job - 1.0 litre eco boost are the nightmare ones. I too am yet to do one, but there are lots of videos about to help. One guy doesn’t use any special tools which is probably how I would do it, old fashioned painted timing marks and maybe the usual crank locking pin as long as you don’t have to loosen cam pulleys. Crank pulley bolt very very tight apparently!

Ain't nothing wrong with DriveTec oil same spec as leading brands you're paying more for the Brand's name
@themarvelousvlog
@themarvelousvlog 5 месяцев назад
A little background about me- I’m an aeronautical engineer who hates working in front of a desk all day, designing and calculating things, hence why I’m here chasing my passion and became a business man and a mechanic. One thing that I can say is that fluid dynamics (area that I focused on the most as a student) is very complicated and isn’t as simple as it seems. It may be true that you’re ALSO paying some for the name but just remember, meeting a specification is the BARE MINIMUM. Now, all the additives and extra liquid engineering that ‘expensive’ companies have done to stabilise the oil, I’d say, is superior compared to cheaper companies like drivetec. That being said, as long as you change your oil often, it should be fine but if you’re taking your service all the way to manufacturer’s recommended interval of 20,000mi (on some vehicles), I wouldn’t trust cheaper companies to last that long!
@jack.crv-R
@jack.crv-R 4 месяца назад
@@themarvelousvlogthanks for clearing that up! Was wondering why you had sarcastic comments about the oil in the video! Just out of curiosity what oils would you recommend? I've heard Petronas syntium is a fairly good budget friendly oil.. and you'd like to think Petronas having formula 1 ties would be good... 🤷🏻‍♂️ I tend to buy Castrol but a lot of people have been making complaints about them recently..
@themarvelousvlog
@themarvelousvlog 4 месяца назад
