13:58 You actually CAN damage the Termite Queen with melee attacks. In fact, if you lack a bow and arrow or have run out of magic, that is the only way TO defeat her. It's just that melee damage is divided into the three types of Slash, Chop, and Stab. The bow and arrows do nothing but Stab damage, which both the regular Termites and the Queen are very weak against. The only other weapon that you can find at this point that does any appreciable Stab damage is the Morning Star, and you likely won't have found either of the two available up until now unless you were very thorough. That is unless you elected to buy one. But the found ones are a bit out of the way or hidden up till now. Trying to attack her with Slash heavy weapons such as the Knight Sword, Short Sword, or god forbid, the Dagger, will do increasingly less damage to her due not only to the lack of decent Stab damage, but also the declining strengths of the weapons themselves. This is likely why you felt that other weapons weren't working. You also might not have hit her in the head with the melee weapons, as that is the only place that can be reached due to how she is positioned inside her tunnel. This requires you to be pitched up slightly, which also makes it impossible to hit the normal Termites without bringing your view back down again. If you get close she will also sometimes retract herself back into her tunnel, forcing you to chase after her, making you even more vulnerable to being back attacked by her swarm. Considering how hectic a head on battle with the Termite Queen can get, what with the three holes in the walls endlessly spewing forth new Termites for the duration of the battle, it is not surprising that it seemed like you just weren't getting anywhere using melee attacks. The bow and arrows and magic are just so easy to exploit from the entrance of the room that needlessly putting yourself in danger to try and get close to her doesn't make sense. Also consider that in order to do much damage at all you must hit with full or close to full stamina. If you were spending all your stamina to defeat the Termites on the ground, you may have not let it recover sufficiently enough to hurt the Queen between dealing with them.
I did try to swing at her a few times with whatever sword I had at the time, and she never flinched! That's how I concluded that melee attacks didn't hit her, because every other enemy in the game flinches when hit by an attack, but I guess I was just missing and couldn't tell.
Wait... How do you only have 344 subscribers!?! Well, I just found your channel, and subscribed, commented, and hit that bell. Hopefully a lot more people do, this is good stuff!
I played through the entire PS1 trilogy like 7 times and still love it. Always nice to hear opinions about the game, and in such a good review too! Hoping you do King's Field 3 review.
Amazing review. In my opinion the best reviews are the ones that randomly pop up in my recommended and after watching the first few minutes out of curiosity I am compelled to watch all of it. ✊✊✊👍👍👍
It was great to see a review released so recently on this game since I had recently played through it for the first time myself; I feel that this video resonated with me. Great review. You earned my subscription.
I've always wanted to check this game out, but it always seemed a little...off-putting, for whatever reason. This is a really great look into the game, thanks for the review!
Saw you swinged sword while power bar wasn't filled. I heard that cause weapons to loose durability faster? Or I'm mixing it with other FROM's game? I played a lot of old games in my life but this KF is where I cross the line, even after beating his ancestor - Ultima Underworld.
No weapon durability in this one! It doesn’t do full damage when the bar isn’t full, but it does stagger the enemy which helps to minimise incoming damage Underworld looks like a nightmare to control, I have to play it some day
Elden ring seems like a huge homage to kings field. An island where people can’t get to it easily and also can’t leave, tons of exploring underground with crystals, an open world that needs no loading screens, and also Nokrom the Eternal City lol
Pretty sure that the performance is a non-issue on emulated hardware as you can just "overclock" the virtual hardware to 200% and have a much better experience. I think for some games this might actually be mandatory. I think you can also improve the graphics through Anti-aliasing with emulation as well.
