I think this was a hit in 1971. I was in Viet Nam / Thailand 1971-1973. I remember arriving back in Honolulu for R&R in summer of 1972, alone, tired of the war, not at all excited about going back. I heard this song on the radio while trying to relax by the pool and forget about the war for a few minutes. This song does not really relate to the war at the time, but, it was sad enough for a guy with no one waiting for me back in the mainland, and I remember, there I was, at 26 years old, silently crying with a towel over my face while listing to this Beverly Bremers song.. -- As you all know by now, when the war was over and I returned in 1973, NO ONE said 'welcome home' when we arrived back in the states. Hippies and protestors spit on us and threw bottles and cans. I'm so glad its a different world now for those returning from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, etc! If I could see Beverly Bremers sing this live today (I live in Las Vegas -- come on out!) I'd be in tears for the whole song, I'm sure!
Wow, young people are ignorant and have their minds made up about things they know nothing about. I'm sure those with an IQ over 90 and a little empathy think about things differently now. As a former marine I won't thank you for you're service. Instead I'll empathize that you were used by evil men for their personal benefit. I served in the 80's thank God. Else I would have volunteered to go over. Youth is wasted on the young.
She does such a marvelous job in this live performance. I heard this song as a 7th grader in 1972 and she sings the song in 2016 just as nicely. Great job, Beverly !!!!!
We:to the same age Roy. This like so ms y pop songs from AM radio me if my very fits love. I was in 7th grade, he was an 8th grader from a neighboring town. So in love. This song spoke to me then…still does today. I hear it and I’m transported back to the days of Brylcreme, Clearasil. sparkly Blue Revlon eye shadow and sadly, the awfully cumbersome mattress sized Kotex. I. It’s those days. The past is so addictive.
Beverly was 66 at the time of this video and sounds/looks phenomenal. I was barely a teenager when the original came out. Years later, my cousin married Helen Miller's son. When I got to know Helen, I asked her about her music career. A songwriter, Helen had written all the music for a Broadway show called "Inner City." One time, in passing, she mentioned she'd had a hit once with a pop song in the early 70's. It was called "Don't Say You Don't Remember."
THIS WAS MADE IN A SLIM SPACE IN TIME WHEN MUSIC MOVED IN A TRULY GREAT DIRECTION THERE WAS PROMISES PROMISES BY WARWICK THEN BOBBI MARTINS FOR THE LOVE OF HIM AND THIS RECORD NOTICE HOW THEY ALL SOUND LIKE BROADWAY..THIS WAS A GREAT COUPLE OF YEARS FOR GREAT POP TUNES ALL OF THOSE ARE CLASSICS AND VERY MEMORABLE I MEAN I WAS 5 YEARS OLD MAYBE 6 WHEN THIS ONE CAME OUT AND I CAN STILL HEAR IT IN MY HEAD PLAYING ON OUR TUBE CLOCK RADIO IN THE KITCHEN..SO ITS FUNNY THAT THIS ACTUALLY did COME FROM A BROADWAY SHOW IT SOUNDS IT..BEUTIFUL
I was sixteen when this song broke, only heard it twice, but I could hear that chorus reverberating in my head down through the years. Nearly forty years later, I found it on RU-vid, along with so many other great songs from my youth. Beautiful live performance.
great singer who deserved to be bigger and have more hits but omg the ones she did have! this one still gets to me, and its her delivery that hits me every time
I don't remember this song as a teen...but I've heard it twice now...LOVE IT. What a great hook. I'm singing along already as if I've known the song forever.
I was a senior in HS when this came out. I was in Heartbreak Hotel my girlfriend broke up with me just before prom. I remember crying in my beer to this song at Udorn RTAB. Surprisingly it's a very good memory hearing this song. Maybe that's the way to judge a truly great song. Keep singing Bev.
There's a bit of vibrato in the voice, which is totally acceptable for someone in her 60's, but the voice is still there and she still looks quite nice. We still remember, Beverly.
@@larciabella , I also wondered about the comment. I thought that it was the way she chose to sing the song. She is a very accomplished vocal coach and vocalist in her own right so I am sure she is quite aware of what she is doing, vocally. Personally, I liked the vibrato sound that Beverly Bremers used in this live performance. Many famous singers, such as Johnny Mathis, have a natural and sometimes persistent vibrato in their style (and he has always had that sound, it seems).
Wow, i can remember growing up in Maine and hearing this song around '71 about 10 yrs old. Other music around that time was Partridge Family, Three Dog Night, Bread, Mountain, just to name s few. Good old days, Man how time has flown by
WHO COULD BELIEVE IT WAS SO LONG AGO WHEN THIS CAME OUT IT WOULD NEVER SELL TODAY PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHAT REAL MUSIC IS ANYMORE..BTW THAT LOOKS LIKE THE ENTIRE ORIGINAL CORE BAND TO ME EXCEPT THE BG SINGERS WHO ARE TOO YOUNG TO BE ORIG BUT THE DRUMMER SOUNDS THE SAME AS THE RECORD AND THE OTHER GUYS LOOK LIKE THEY COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE ORIG RECORDING..SHE SOUND GREAT STILL IM VERY HAPPY TO SAY
Oh I remember. A little kid with a huge crush on Lisa K. who didn’t know I existed. Oh young heartache. I can laugh now but back then, I’d hear this song and... ouch! Later in life, I learned what true Ouch feels like🤣
Not so much touring, I think, but still some shows now and then. We've seen her twice at an oldies show in Jackson, TN, she was there again last Fall. You might be able to get some information here … beverlybremers.com/
Paula Tristan the band was great and so was Beverly. This is an amateur video shot with a cell phone. I guess you had to be there to really appreciate it.
