Me too I wasted my three years in nursing school. Now I have developed anxiety and depression. I didn't learn anything I was just doing it bcz I was supposed to do something after school. It will be tougher at the beggining when you have to struggle for a while with more aspects but you cannot just give up and do nothing just because of that. Life goes on no matter what. Its up to you to decide and do something even if its not the right thing to do at first. You will find your way for sure. Ive been in a similar situation as you so im trying to give a hopeful comment.

Do something that you enjoy instead and fuck the prestige of doing something that corrupt ideals of Western society tells you to do. Keep in mind that society often time equals the people that surround you. Fact is most people are heavily unenlightened when it comes to finding their true purpose but that wont stop them from having opinions.

You haven't really wasted those 3 years , in fact you have invested those 3 years to find out what you don't want to do - so it's not a complete loss

I’m sure Bukowski had to ‘try’ too, he’s just choosing to highlight the fact that the best things in life are about letting go as opposed to TRYing to control. When I finally gave up hope fighting my acne I just stopped all skincare just went full caveman mode, within a week my acne was almost gone after struggling for years. Years later it made a resurgence but once I cleaned my diet and began intermittent fasting it never came back again. Less is more.

I think its deeper than that. You have to consider why you try in the first place. Its not up to you. Its your hardware. What is the reason you feel stimulated to try, and what is the reason you feel incredible heaviness when you try with other things? This is your natural state. When you don't try, it allows your subconscious to effortlessly put effort into something. Its called "flow." It happens in nature. Study animals closely, and you can see them trying without trying. Its the conscious that gets in our way. Its the software that we've been conditioned to learn. Thats why meditation is so important. It awakens in you the voice that understands what you want and how to live in the flow. Thats what I believe he meant.
