DON'T Use Aluminum Shifter Bushings! Thermoplasitc is the Way With HardRace!

After a short hiatus, I bring you another piece of my transmission upgrade puzzle: HardRace Thermoplastic (TPV) Shifter Bushings. Part two of my 6 part transmission upgrade series, I go over the differences of these two bushings and give you visual demonstrations of their strengths. I also tell you why you should avoid using solid aluminum shifter bushings except in rare cases.
A majority of people know they should replace their shifter bushings on their age-old B series (or any non-cable) transmission. Matter of fact, for a lot of individuals these are among the first upgrades they perform to their vehicles. Similar to my previous video on Detent Springs, these are a low-investment high-reward upgrade. Nothing makes a car feel better than a refreshed shift linkage so that you can feel (and hear!) every gear change clean-and-crisp. Especially on an old Honda chassis like my 200,000+ mile EK Civic Coupe.
What you don't know, and what is hard to find, is the exact reasoning why one would use a specific material over another. In this case, I tell you why you should use Thermoplastic instead of Aluminum for most applications when searching for the stiffest and most responsive shift linkage setup.
Be sure to hit subscribe and stay tuned for all my future video releases where I put all these parts to the test and give you a thorough, in depth review at the end!

One point I missed in the video above was that these thermoplastic bushings are formulated to be much more resistant to the elements and thusly should last longer when exposed to the elements. Things like fuel, oil, heat, alkali, and general weather will be much less likely to wear these bushings down versus the factory rubber, silicone, or even billet aluminum!

That vain pop shot hahaha. I love my aftermarket bushings, I just need that little bushing for the ball on my car that would make it feel solid again

Haha right! Oh man, yea that makes a world of difference! You should just replace the whole shifter though, they're getting cheaper ;)

Would you recommend installing this on a 99 stock daily D series hatch? that has been never replaced before.

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this! Yes, this is a great upgrade for a shifter assembly. Bushings are always very important to replace, especially on older vehicles. You will be much happier with the feel of the shifter afterwards!

Thoughts on thermoplastic vs polyurethane?
@coryinmotion
@coryinmotion 3 года назад
I think poly is a great solution for a sportier feel but something that’s not going to be to stiff. It will keep a closer to oem feel than the thermo. Not a bad option, but poly will wear quicker also. Something to think about!

@@coryinmotion would you say hardrace/thermo bushings (thinking sway bar bushings in particular) are street-able for daily & spirited driving? I like the idea of no grease necessary too....
@coryinmotion
@coryinmotion 3 года назад
@@johns1646 definitely! Stiffer bushings will make your sway bar more effective as more of the flex will be focused into the sway bar and not deflected by the softer poly bushing material. You may hear a little more road noise versus poly however. Edit: definitely streetable lol

How about aftermarket engine mount? It will kill both engine and transmission.
@coryinmotion

Aftermarket mounts do not cause any harm. They cause more vibration depending on how stiff the mounts are but in the end are not detrimental.
