Great vid! As someone with two doggo’s, I’ve been making my own patch for a few years now. I like being able to control the quality of seed I use, along with full sun vs. shade in my mix. I also sprinkle a smidge of starter fert on too!😁

Thank you for this, I am so frustrated with what to choose here in hot Florida, its seeding season now and I want to do it right.

I am on day 10 of using scotts EZ seed. The seeds have germinated and the grass is coming in really well. I was thinking it would be more like 2-4 weeks for germination but it only has taken 10 days. I planted seeds on june 20 with temps in the high 90s. Watering 3 times a day. I am going to go with pennington on my next seed to have a comparison in product. EZ seed did pretty dang good though for seeding right in the middle of a very hot summer in the south. I also noticed if you have a bare spot in a centipede lawn scrape out the spot real good and put some top soil and starter on it with no seed. The lateral shoots from the centipede will start to fill in that spot fairly quick from just putting down fresh soil and fertilizer.

I am gonna return the Scott’s EZ seed which I have just bought today. Thank you for saving my money.

I did a experiment comparing Scott’s rapid grass next to Pennington smart seed, actually I did several experiments using the rapid grass, I had zero luck using the Scott’s Rapid grass it does not grow well, for some strange reason and I use to be a big Scott’s fan. I have had nothing but good luck using the Pennington smart seed. I love the break down comparing seed and the filler in each bag. Great idea, great video brother!

Top stuff! The best part of this video is the zoomed in view of the seed mix for when you make it yourself. I wish they had those seed labels in Canadia though as you don't know what is in it here.

I live in high desert nevada (3900 ft alt). It's very dry. I used Pennington Sun & Shade, covered with topsoil. It's working very well.

I purchased Scotts EZ Seed because I wanted the entire package of moisture-holding mulch that would bind with itself in order to resist rain runoff, pre-mixed fertilizer, and mixed grass seeds that include fast germinating and slower germinating seeds. It was expensive, but my lawn was in terrible condition. The EZ Seed mix was what I needed.

I just watched your dethatch, aerate and overseed video, I’m preparing to do it this fall finally 😅 Excuse my ignorance as I am trying my best to learn about cool season lawns, I’m near MI and OH border; my lawn is cover by lots of oak and maple trees and it’s over 10,000sq ft. I have a lot of weeds, I mean a lot of it in the back yard, should I apply some kind of weed killer along with the dethatch, aerate and overseed process? Another thing, I don’t have irrigation like you but also looking into it. Will it be a waste to do this process in September if I don’t do irrigation appropriately? What seed would you recommend works best for my type of area? 80% of the lawn is shaded. I’m sorry for all the questions. Thank you.

I love that EZSEED scotts. The grass starts to sprout and grow in like 4 days lol. Compared to almost 2 weeks for my regular bermuda seed with milo

I put in a monostand of RK's Elite PRG (that stuff grows absolutely anywhere, including on concrete), and do exactly what you described when fixing dog spots. I mix: - equal amounts of top soil and peat moss - very light starter fert with mesotrione - the seed (of course) Don't think you can premix the stuff and shelf-store it to use as-needed; you really can't. Mix up enough to use in a bucket, then apply as he describes here. Trust me, you'll find enough places in your lawn that will need it all. I'll usually top it with a very light peat moss before pressing it in. Then just water 3-4 times a day in short , "dampening" doses. for RK's Elite PRG you'll have germination in a week to 10 days, and then it's off the the races. He's right; elite PRG ain't cheap, but it is SO worth it. The new cultivars are much more resistant to drought, and are super resilient to stress.

I have used the ez patch st. Augustine one and it worked great for the small area.. what works best for st. Augustine because I had chinch bug damage and need to fix these areas

Add a 15 foot buffer between the lawn and the waterbody. Keep fertilizer out of the lake unless you want to stimulate blue-green algae blooms. Also, add lakeshore plantings on the other side of fhe sea wall. Good habitat and attractive.

rapid grass is great if you already have fescue but if you have any other type of grass you'll need to by plugs or the seed of the grass you already have.

I’ve been a sucker for EZ seed twice. Also bought seed and large bag of peat moss from a nursery. The EZ seed didn’t germinate. I wrote to Scotts and got a check in the mail. It does take some guess work out of the process. The seed/peat moss failed as birds swooped in and had a feast.

Who is his sponcor. This ezseed product is the best and I would recommend this to anyone. All you have to do is clean area and put product down. Water every day for 7 days or less and there is your new lawn.

Use the Contractors Brand from Scott with cheap garden soil (make sure there’s no body parts in the bag lol)

Scotts Grass Seed labeling on the top front of the bag (2:03) says COMBATION SEED, FERTILER & SOIL IMPROVER! That's the give-away that it's full of other components other than seed. Then in huge print it says GRASS SEED. They are being very tricky with their labeling.

Where is the best place to get that Barenburg grass? And what do you normally pay per pound?

I have used the Scott's ezseed and found it to be useless. No perceptible germination. Switched to Pennington seed and had good results.

Best thing you can do is pre-germinate your grass sead. Mix that with peat moss and top soil and you’re good to go

I have tried twice to grow some grass in my life..Never occurred.. Tried again today.. this time with fertilizer. Funny... my uncle actually bought me some of the ez seed because he knows how bad I want some grass.. I think I will tell him to return it..I sure hope i get some grass time time. I am a little worried about the amount of soilI put on top of the seed.. What would happen if I didn't put barely anything? I threw down new top soil because it needed it for sure..

Johnathan green grass seed is a high 98 percent seeds. I use the black Ultra seeds which just puts Scotts to shame. I PRE SOAK THE SEEDS. SCOTTS IS JUST JUNKAROO !!!!!!!!

Made the mistake of getting one at Costco. Spot on video. I used aeration tool (Corona MAX YardBREATHER Aerator from Home Depot) and manually fed the holes. Did Ok, but reg seed would have done exponentially better, for a far larger area. Should have checked blogs first. Lesson learned. Thx

I tried doing a a big bare spot using that EZ Seed crap. Nope. At least Scott's has that no hassle refund as long as you keep your receipt.

I had bare spots in the lawn of a house I purchased. EZ Seed worked perfectly. I do know that certain soil conditions sometimes affect how EZ works. So, in my opinion, it is not possible for these products to work in all soil conditions. With that said, opinions are like aholes, we all have one.

Barenbrug is elite. Very pricey though.

I don’t want to walk around Home Depot or Lowe’s asking for assistance on what I should buy etc. I just want to walk in and buy something that’ll work and then put it on the bare spots and water. Nothing else. Besides the very basics to have a decent looking yard.

You shouldn't be buying Scott's seed anyways, period. Any of them. With other brands that sell Elite quality seed with 100% of it being seed cost waayyy less and the product and results are like night and day

I have to disagree with this content...... I dont mind spending the money. Why? I get it on sale first of all and dont buy the huge bag. I have totally compact hard clay soil and a dog that digs. I put this stuff down last august. It puffed up. Its the BEST greenest spot in the lawn now now and has been all winter long. Now its April and I'll do the many other spots. They were caused by out dog and guess what....she doesnt even dig in the new grass preferring in the empty clay spots. So for me, this stuff is worth every penny and it does the job excellently.

Scott's topsoil is straight TRASH. I brought some for my front yard overseed. Let me just say I would have been better off using dirt from the tree line.
