I’m just saying that he was one of the few A-list celebs willing to embrace them so openly in the early 90’s. Way, way ahead of his time. It would take Hollywood another 15 years to start the conversation about global warming with the 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth and another ten years before veganism would become normalized with celebs like Oprah, Beyoncé taking it mainstream.

Thomas Bird At that age, you are still trying to figure yourself out and choose sides. He was exposed to drugs all his life, at home, in the cult, and in Hollywood. He also tried to incorporate his parents hippie views into his own belief system. I think he was trying to 'find himself', to get all cliche' on you. He was also under tremendous pressure to support the entire family, and in dealing with his father's abandonment of the family. (He moved to South America permanently) I tend to think that if he had lived longer, he would have become a person with a belief system that was more cohesive. All we can do now is wonder.

I don't think River would have become an atheist, he was open about believing in Jesus as late as 1992 etc. But he certainly was exposing the Children of God cult that he grew up in. He told reporters he lost his virginity at 4 or something like that. :( I think he was a dreamer and spiritual but he had no chance to just be himself. He was the bread winner, a pin up, he just wanted to do music and direct. He did plan to leave Hollywood but he had to do a few more movies to get secure money wise for his family.

Thomas Bird Actually, River DID speak about his beliefs and mentioned Jesus. In an interview with Keanu Reeves he gave thanks to Jesus Christ, and Keanu said 'Amen'. He also mentioned elsewhere that he believed in something other than the here and now, he said just the thought of how his parents met proved to him there was destiny, a God, whatever it is. I will find the interview for you. He was pretty spontaneous and open with interviewers while he was with Keanu because they were friends and put each other at ease I guess. Someone they knew died in a car wreck and River said 'Gold bless his soul'. It's not about 'coming to sense', that's pretty insulting. Joaquin has siblings who believe in God, who believe River is living on in Spirit. River's sister Rain who was in his band, they wrote songs together, she was there when he died, she believes in God/spirituality, she posts about her brother. Well, since he died at 23 we shall never know what he would have or could have done. It's pointless, but I'd say during his lifespan he was a believer for the most part. Everyone has their doubts, but I think from what we know he was a spiritual person. Sure, people say God bless all the time, so cut that as one of my examples, but the Jesus Christ comment was a bit more than that. I am not in a religion by the way, so don't take this as me trying to make River like me. but it's safe to say through my years of following him he leant towards a God/spirituality. And just because he had started using heroin during Idaho doesn't mean he would then be into supernatural beliefs, you don' have to be on drugs to believe in things. It's so insulting to act like people who believe in God or an afterlife or spirituality are just idiots not awakened to the truth. It really is.
