@@mickey34jb Cosbys issue was not in finding WILLING partners. The man was always incredibly handsome. He didn't want WILLING partners, he wanted comatose dead feeling women... That's the part that turns my stomach, the man I looked up to my entire life basically has a necrophilia kink ...
I read an article about her a while back and what I took from it was she was always a free spirit with a rebellious nature. Bill sort of wanted to reel that in and tame her. She didn't like that (obviously being young, it probably was an exaggerated dislike for him once he showed her that distaste for what she perceived to just be HER). Once she got pregnant and her part was written out of A Different World, that was the icing on the cake.
@@starlightrocks7 we know. I was just answering the question of what Lisa didn't like about Bill Cosby. It could have been more to it than that... But Im not here to write down assumptions. But I agree... her character wasn't really missed on the show due to Whitley Gilbert's character
@@ladylin3026 Yes, BC was trying to keep LB on the right path with her career, but as you mentioned, she was rebellious and did that horrible movie, "Angel Heart" which flopped, and it followed her through her career because it diminished her image.
Did you know that Lenny Kravitz tried to get Lisa Bonet back but she is a strong young lady and that was a no just like that Mimosa guy I seen it just the other night when they announced they were separating and he tried to kiss her on the chicken she pulled away from him and don't think so
You know, there is A LOT that is being left out of this story, & it's being retold in a COMPLETELY different time. When the Denise character went off to Hillman, he could have treated her the way that Sondra was treated for the first two years, as someone who just dropped in for the occasional holiday or weekend trip home. But, he gave her a WHOLE sitcom of her own that followed his own timeslot, the second most powerful coattails on TV at the time. And, he is right that America would have LOST THEIR MINDS about Denise Huxtable being pregnant out of wedlock. Today, it happens ALL THE TIME & everyone is cool with it, but back then, there was still shame associated with it, & IF it happened to upper class girls, they either had an abortion or had it & gave it away. Almost NONE of them kept the baby & raised it on their own. That was the zeitgeist of the mid 80s. But, after all she had done to piss him off, he STILL let her come back to his own show. In many ways, he looked after her better than anyone else would have in show business & gave her so many opportunities, & I think that she was actually his favourite of all his TV "kids." When you watch them on screen, there was a real father/daughter warmth there that seemed to be lacking with most of the other kids. But, I do appreciate that she was too professional to wade into the ugliness of the Cosby allegations.
That why it would have been actual ground breaking tv, to show a good girl from a rich family making the difficult choices...it would've been amazing tv and Debbie Allen was all for it. And since Debbie Allen has a moral compass, I'll stick to her ideas involving young people and not Bill's... Just sayin
This! I’m always amazed at how people overlook the fact that he really could’ve kicked her to the curb without trying to help her. At the end of the day she was an employee of the Cosby Show. Period.
@@cims1ty640I think that had more to do with spin. After several years, the audience was FAR more attached to Denise than Sandra who was always a kind of ghost character (in and out and in fact tacked on after the pilot because in the pilot they clearly state they have four children cause they did not want five as a joke, then a fifth child shows up that was ‘in college’). People get attached to the kids in Sitcoms. Recasting Denise would have caused dissonance for the audience and people were attached to the Cosby kids as the Cosby kids, so people would want to know what is going on with Denise and it would have been more work to keep her invisible tbh, even the last couple seasons where they had Olivia and her parents were ‘away’ was one of those far fetched sitcom plot lines. So with A different world what better way to sell a new show than a character the audience was already invested in? Hence, A different World benefitted Cosby in that the audience still got to see Denise Huxtable and what she was up to without her having to be on the Cosby set. If he really cared about her, he could have found a way to work around her pregnancy as well even if he didn’t want Denise to be pregnant . Several shows did that with creative shooting techniques and its college, by that point other characters had storylines so you could have lightly written in Denise shot around the pregnancy until the baby was born, and the upped her presence. It has been done before. I also notice they started to write Denise as far more air headed and flighty when she returned to the Cosby Show with the Olivia plotline after being a fairly sharp and capable teen character. Luckily a Different World was a hit and the audience did eventually latch on to the new characters for the sake of themselves and not the tie to the Cosby show.
Who does that? A no pregnancy clause in film and TV has been around since 1922 . There is also a no weight gain clause for both men and woman depending on the role. That was not just a Bill Cosby thing.
Funny thing is that now in today’s entertainment you see women of every race being a single mother. Especially on Law & Order: SVU, two of the main characters played single mothers.
Right?😂😂Lisa regretted not listening to Bill Cosby because he was directing her on the right path, and she chose to rebel. Instead of pointing a finger at herself for her failed career, she wants to point the blame at him.
The show was wonderful. Bill not so much. Two different things can be true at the same time. Just because people don’t like Bill Cosby, the man, doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the Cosby Show.
Yes it was great and still is, but let's not forget that now, due to his own actions, it's a gem in tv history DESPITE Bill Cosby, not because of him. It makes me sick what he did to those women... And it makes me sad what he did to the tv show I loved my whole life long. All those actors not getting residual checks because Bill couldn't stop r**ing comatose women... I'm all for having the backs of our idols, but only the ones who deserve it, like the rest of the cast, for example...
@@heydeanie fuck them women waited a 1000 years to speak up, Trump ass still free, Harvey W movie available to view any and everywhere, leave Pill Crosby alone
Bill was right to portray a certain image of young black men and women in "A Different World" which is why the show was a success. BTW, Bill was released from prison because he didn't do anything, it was another way to put a black man in his place after he wanted to purchase the NBC network.
I don’t know this for sure but from what I saw early on Lisa Bonet did not care for Cosby at all. I couldn’t figure out why, but as the years have passed I have a better understanding of what “might” have been going on. I watched a special called We Need To Talk About Cosby and in that show one of the co-stars talked about seeing all these women around. Now if he saw all these women I have to imagine Bonet did too. Bonet was young when she did that show and young people don’t like it when adults are publicly saying this but privately doing something else. It’s also possible that Cosby tried some crap with her although I don’t think so. I believe Bonet had Cosby’s number from the get and that’s probably why they didn’t get along.
Lisa Bonnet is absolutely something else! She is amazing n a power 2 herself! I only wish she had gotten in2 more incredible films but that's not her fault w the shit they put out there! I don't know that she escaped that Jekyll Hyde hypocrite cosby, I can only pray, but I definitely give her credit 4 drop kicking 2 of the most handsome men that walked this planet cause they fell dirty n she weren't having it! She set the bar n like most beautiful black actresses has not been given credit 4 her ground breaking work in film n breaking barriers that made it a little easier 4 some of the ladies who came after her including Angelina Jolie! Yes, I know she's not black but I think she took off faster because Lisa disappeared. They both have that look!
Her first year or so on the Cosby Show with short hair and weird makeup she did nothing for me. But then when she grew it out and had a more natural look? Oh man oh man…🥰
The weird makeup was a thing back then, though. When it said that she auditioned with half her face made up, she probably had it done up like Patty Smyth on the Warrior album.
Bill didn't want Lisa.😂😂 Lisa messed up her career when did that horrible movie, "Angel Heart" which flopped. Bill begged her not to do that movie because he knew the backlash that she would get. That decision that Lisa made to do that movie followed her throughout her career and it pretty much ended her acting career.
i bet you anything Cosby blew Kravitz and his mom up when he got the news of the pregnancy. To hear those calls would be hilarious. Especially the one with Lenny. It probably started with "youuuuuuuuuu" (cosby voice) lol.
They were a power couple, in my eyes, & I wanted to be Lenny so bad!!! Fun fact, Kurt Cobain & Courtney Love would pretend, for fun, to be Lenny & Lisa, in private! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I'm sorry that she and Jason divorced 😢But I understand why she did it ❤ she loves him, but she has already been through all the Hollywood fame and being in the Spotlight 🙄And it's not her thing😳 And that's okay! I still see the love there... YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE LET THEM GO! I think that she wants him to enjoy this time in his life! I don't think she cares for the notoriety! She would rather have a more layed back life❤ I very much admire her,she is true to herself... It wouldn't surprise me if they end up back together ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, I can believe that because, at that time. Black people were being betrayed so ugly on television and he was the only man that stood up for us. And allowed us to see what positivity in the black family really is about. Because every black family is not poor and living in the slums. So yes, I can believe why you fired Lisa bonette. Give me a break she was not little girl's role models.
Lisa wanted too much too soon, I think cosby show made her, she wanted much more. Her talent was not seasoned enough and she jumped early taking parts @ the time not suitable for her, but if she is happy that's all that matter.😊
Nothing against Lisa, she's awesome, but yes, you hit the nail on the head as to why the Cosby Show was & still is, such an important show, & it deserves its place in history, despite what Cosby did. That has nothing to do with the show. I applaud TV1 for continuing to air the Cosby Show, when other networks have been shamefully trying to bury it.
'Asleep at the wheel.' 00:17 - 00:24 "Remember the drop-dead gorgeous Lisa Bonet from that iconic '90s hit TV series, 'The Cosby Show?' No; of course not. But we ALL remember the drop-dead gorgeous Lisa Bonet from that iconic '80s hit TV series, 'The Cosby Show.'" Why 'fudge' the dates, especially on an 'iconic' network, prime time series where the dates, especially the GROUND-BREAKING year it premiered, 1984, are seared into our brains? Was this a backhanded attempt to make the focus of the video a decade younger? Mistakes like this don't happen when writers feel obligated to check their dates, instantly available on so many reliable, reputable sources. With all the individuals at "Soulful Screen TV," advertising agencies, publicity firms, etc. that vet the final cut, easily half a dozen individuals should have raised their hands AND voices: "'80s, '80s, '80s -- '90s NOT." Pundits will ask, "Why didn't the voice artist doing narration catch it?" Note to "Soulful Screen TV" -- This twelve-and-a-half minute report on ultra talented, endearing Lisa Bonet is revealing, respectful, nostalgic and fun. So, why blow it in the first half minute?
Denise had father issues, and like most biracial kids that are raised by their yt mothers, are confused and rebellious. Bill tried to direct Lisa, but she chose not to listen.
She screwed up.. The Cosby show was suppossed to be a show about BLACKS actually having morals and a strong family values..Getting pregnant young didn't show that..
The decision she made to do that movie followed her throughout her life. Lisa had father issues, and Bill was like a father figure to her, but she didn't listen to him. If you have noticed the rest of the Cosby kids kept a relationship with Bill and they are successful today.
I'm an admirer of the show, the characters and the actors. But, you gloss of the fact that she was chronically late and reeking of weed (according to her co-stars) as if that's nothing. Time is money in any business, especially entertainment. And her parents were the only parents that didn't have a strong presence on set, like didn't come around. I'm still a fan, but let's not act as if she wasn't problematic to an extent.
@CharleneEdwards-eb6vz Never said that he nor anyone else was. Just being logical and remembering what cast mates said about working with her. Anything that Mr. Cosby is about, doesn't change what she was about while on these shows. And don't yell in the comments, especially not towards me.
@La-wr5dn No one yelled at you. She was actually removed from the show because she was pregnant. They had problems with some of the other cast members, but Cosby focused on her because getting pregnant was not a good look for the show, thus said the perv that date raped women for decades. Sorry, that's not the subject. I apologize if you felt I yelled at you. Have a blessed day 🙏🏽 ✨️ 💛.
@@starlightrocks7 again, the point is, two of the girls on the show are majority white by race, the parents were not, the obvious conclusion is that Claire had outside relations, and maybe that is the black culture in a nutshell, so who was the biological father(s) the most ignored question today in the black community.
Cosby should talk he's far from innocent hiding behind his good guy wholesome image that came back to bite him in the ass. As for Lisa her life as long as it didn't interfere with the show besides many things happen to people in real life they just write into the script. TV and movie land is not perfect this show was a family show she grew up and these things happen. Besides white or colored I think most people guys of course tuned in to see Lisa and the woman that played Cosby's wife both very attractive women. I saw this show growing up and even at a young age I thought them both attractive and I'm white if that really means anything?
Do you understand within black society to have pregnant black women in college was a bad image for young black men and women? The point was for black men and women to excel in life by being focused on their education, and because of "The Cosby Show and A Different World," many black men and women went to college and succeeded because of the image and message that was delivered.
What? Bill Cosby was against Lisa being in the movie "Angel Heart" because of the image that she portrayed on The Cosby Show, and he was right because Lisa never had any offers to act in top-selling movies. Matter of fact, her daughter's acting career has surprised her mothers.
I had such a crush on her when she played Denise on Cosby and then i saw Angel Heart and OMG....added rocket fuel to my crush. She and i are about the same age. I think she's just the coolest. I rurned out being gay, but i still crush on her.❤
she was okay, when I was in high school all my friends were crazy about her. Me? She was alright. But even when she was on that show, I could sense some tension between Cosby and Bonet
I knew it was a bad idea 👎 when they got together. Married too soon didn’t give it a chance to blossom didn’t know how to navigate living with each other. They were young with no rule book 📖 on a real relationship after the infatuation wore off
Lenny shouldn't have cheated on her (the reason for their divorce); same with Jason Momoa, he shouldn't have cheated on her, either. They BOTH blew a good thing.
@@CommeLePapillon I totally agree and it’s getting worse and worse. Slang and Ebonics have become the norm and I can’t even understand what the people are talking about
And a different world will still apart a bill. Cosby's little asana back then. So, as you can see, she did not stay long once he got found out that she was pregnant. Which is a good thing because, at that time, teenagers were getting pregnant by the dozens. Little girls so. Yes, I believe why he fired her because she was not the type of role model. He was trying to betray. For black people at that time, you people can say what you want to say about Bill Cosby, but I still think he's a great man, so go on with yourself. Those who don't have stones to be thrown at themselves. Please go away
There was a rumor that Zoey 101 was cancelled because Jamie Lee Spears got pregnant. But Jamie Spears said in an interview, Zoey 101 ended because it was time for it to end. Enough said.
I loved both of those shows. As a Caucasian & European (born and raised in Europe), some people around me were surprised I enjoyed a show where nobody looked like me, but I really did, and I even fancied being part of that seemingly ideal family. I even thought and answered at the time: "Isn't that something non-Caucasians deal with all the time?" At least back then very much so.
