This, it's perhaps a poorly worded message but people tend to infantilise autistic people and everything associated with them. People will say they find my attractive or find my passion for biology and botany as interesting and sophisticated but when they find out I'm autistic they will infantilise me and the way I dress, and think that my choice of home décor or the fact I get excited when I see a rare flower as childish.

34 year old autistic weighing in... disabled people generally, and neurologically or cognitively disabled people more specifically are often seen as "childlike" or "innocent" and people infantilize us, don't provide sex education to disabled teens or adults, don't expect (or want) us to be sexually active... so while I won't get behind "we need to sexualize autism," I am 100% behind the sentiment that we should see autistic people (and other disabled people) as sexual beings with desires and needs...;just like everyone else.

"Bullying" -is- has become just a pretty-little euphemism for, "child-on-child abuse," one to make the adults who allow it on their watch feel better about themselves. I was so badly bullied by pretty much everyone that I was afraid to change in the locker room. Because I was afraid of being raped - they had done everything else to me, raping me was the only thing they hadn't done. I actually had a mental breakdown one day. The school didn't do a _fvcking thing._ Never called my parents. It wasn't until 3 years later, after we'd moved to a different state, that I finally found out the truth … and my mother found out as well. She. Was. _Livid._ at that school. I think that if we'd still lived anywhere near there, she would've hopped in the car, driven to the school, and beaten the sh1t out of all of the teachers and principle involved. She was _incandescent,_ especially at the fact that I thought nobody cared what had happened. So I wish nothing but pain on those teachers, counselors, and administrators, both yours and mine, that enabled our abuse. Mine are long since dead [I'm over 50], but I do hope that they spent their final days _suffering._ And I wish the same on yours.

If an Autistic person is in a long-term relationship that happens to also be sexual, some may assume that the person isn't Autistic, or that they've been manipulated into the relationship because, "an Autistic person couldn't possibly want a sexual relationship," which isn't true. But you are right, the fact does remain that there is a lot of overlap between Autistic and asexual people.

Honestly, I think most people who made those types of tiktoks would have audiences who would be able to understand it's a joke/doesn't mean autism is inherently sexual (or the opposite). Honestly, reddit-type incels will always be awful and always hope to find some way to manipulate people into sleeping with them, the fact that they're fetishizing autistic people (women specifically) would probably happen whether (certain) autistic people decides to openly embrace feeling sexual attraction or not. When I was 17 to 19 years old I was often haunted at night by this fear that my bed was built on train tracks (that somehow ran through my 1st floor room) and a train would come running me over while I'm trying to fall asleep. Sometimes I would hear a train whistle and jump up, staring into the pitch black darkness of my room, expecting to see headlights approaching and bracing for impact. I was - no joke - seriously afraid I would one night die that way. It sounds hilarious, I know! 😅 But this was after I had a long phase of su1c1dal ideation during which I set my 17th birthday as a deadline by which I want to finish the story of my life if it didn't get better and as the methods of doing so I considered jumping off a nearby Autobahn bridge or laying down on the railway and waiting for the "last train home". * I've always been scared of trains as a kid due to an educational/shocker video on the dangers around trains, which police officers showed us in elementary school and was way too graphic for me at that age, as well as due to the news that a fourteen year old girl died at the unguarded railway crossing (which from then on I avoided like the devil does holy water) near my house when I was 11, but this was different. It wasn't a rational fear that kicked in everytime I was anywhere near rails or trains, it was an existential fear, that the god(s)/the universe/fate was against me and would always make suffer, which I still had despite my hope in better days having been restored. I had just fallen in love with live again and was absolutely terrified that, now as I was feeling better again and I didn't want to die anymore, the fate that has been so cruel to me for the last almost twelve years would come and kill me now, taking the reward of having suffered through and survived it all for so long away from me. Well, here I am eight years later and life keeps rewarding me more and more with every new year I stick around for. ^^ *(btw: I strongly disliked either method because of the harm they would do to innocent others, but I never came up with a plan how to pull it off in a more ethic way.)
