Have you ever meet a girl that is not that good looking, but there is something about her that makes you crazy. This car is that girl it looks like an alien but damn I would love to drive one.
Just looking at it, you just know this was the car the Plymouth Prowler was always meant to be, and should have been. It looks thoroughly pissed off, and I love it!
djweetos that is a stunning car. The Dutch are great people I’m English and I love the Dutch I used to work in the Nederland’s, I worked all over the country from venray and venlo on the German border along to Breda, uden scheveningen Nijmegen Leiden noordwijkerhout, den helder, Edam and volendam stapohorst and meppel and I even worked on one of the islands teschelling that place was weird I think there was a lot of incest and inbreeding going on there as some of the ugliest people ive seen live there and normally Dutch people are really good looking and when I looked in the graveyard there was only about 6 different surnames and there seemed a lot of people with deformities and mental disabilities even the man I worked for had a club foot and one leg shorter than the other so he had to wear one big Frankenstein boot.
paul torton That sounds fantastic indeed, but would I chose it over an audi inline 5 turbo, with a manual? Not a chance. The sound, power, let alone the novelty of the audi 5, going back to Class B rally racing, Audi Sport Quattro, RS2, 200 20V turbo, wicked cars with a wicked motor.
Craig Kulig yeah the sound is good but you could buy a 7 style car and get a audi 5 put in it for 20% of the price. it doesn't really warrant the price
Craig Kulig By that criteria, just take an engine from a Metro R4 and stick it in a Caterham / Lotus 7 and have anywhere from 380 Bhp - 400 plus Bhp on tap (naturally aspirated) and think of all the weight savings. Engines and power are only limited by the imagination.::).
ABS, assisted brakes, and power steering aren't creature comforts, they didn't do away with them to lose weight...They didn't include them because they're all things that ruin a car and this is supposed to be a driver's car.
This is actually really cool! The rear lights are the exact ones I used for my JZ COBRA project - a concept car privately built using clay modelling and fiberglass/carbon fibre moulds. I have DIY videos that show it being built!
WTF, why is the whole test basically in a straight line? I want to see how you drive on twisties in this car, fast. Otherwise, it is just a useless, overpriced toy. Add to that the *insanely* irritating servile tone of this review, and I am surprised if they sell even the *hoped for* 25. Can you just send this car to Brian Cooley for a proper review? No, I don't think Donkervoort has the balls to do that.
Donkervoort did want to make his own Brand ,back then new Dutch Car Legislation forced him to change the Lotus Seven he Imported from the UK. For Example ; the Lotus Seats were not wide enough for Dutch law,so he had to widen the Chassis, had to change the Wheelbase...ect ect. And then he decided ,I will use my own Name ! Big respect for the Guy and his Crew !
no the seat was not high enough. And the guy before joop who imported lotus had no certificate, he did it illegal, and the lotus wasnt road legal in the netherlands. So yes joop hen needed to make his own chassis, wich become the super 8.
Hell yah !! Finally someone did a proper review of a rate gem. I saw these things in the flesh and they are just an insane piece of kit. Proper drivers car and they even have another version of it in "coupe" form. Fine German engineering, and too bad its only available to Europe.
***** not sure you can, not sure it meets any of the regulations you lot have over there. I know they are only just importing the caterhams there but its all in kit form
***** oh yeah its the same over here, I was more on about the emissions side of things, the caterham uses ford duratec engines so do pass the emission laws out there, the engine in this im not so sure about as its not a standard audi engine
Hmmm. From the video thumbnail I was a little iffy about it. But watching this video, I like it. The looks are "challenging" at first, but they grew on me quickly and I think it looks pretty sweet. And 380 hp in a car that light: much fun to be had. Manual fun. Thumbs up Donkervoort. Well done.
Was lucky to drive one for a hour. Incredible car, really makes you feel alive and work for it when you push it. This is a dream if you are looking for a true raw driver experience. Would love to own one, but hey.....
why would you spend double the price of the new 620r? this is slower round a track, heavier which means lower power to weight. give me the 620r which is also rare, then 50 grand to spend on other toys
Best looking car ever is the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole made between 85 to 88. Here's a great pic of it in red with the Gold rims. www.remarkablecars.com/main/lamborghini/1986-lamborghini-001.html
If it is about being intamate with your car then get a SLC kit car, made or do it your self! Light weight, powerfull and reliable, with the LS7. The best part is... people that aren't rich can own one!!!!
Donkervoort? BONKERvoort :) Was a fan of Donkervoort since I was 12, with the D8 fitted with the Ford 220hp Cosworth engine, I always preferred its looks over those of Caterham and Westfield.
Boring. Boring review of a boring car. Oh, sure, it's fast. It's "extreme." It's got "insane technology in it"-just like every other expensive track toy: carbon fiber everything, no creature comforts, no pansy driver aids to prevent hair from growing on your chest. »yawn« This car, and this review, are relics. They are slaves to the performance philosophies and production systems of the 1970s and the boutique artisans who ape them. It's time for some real revolution in automotive design, cars that are light, strong, performant yet can pass highway regulation in all of the world's largest markets (the Donkervoort likely wouldn't pass NHTSA) and offer a modicum of everyday practicality. Cars that are more broadly affordable, so that the Gospel of Speed can be spread to teenagers once again. I don't have answers. But I'm starting to ask questions.
DankKronix Which is relevant to me… how? Which is information that the majority of enthusiasts can use for what, beside settling bar bets? These vehicles are fetish objects, and that's part of my problem. They are feted with fetish accomplishments that we are supposed to be in awe of-a 7-minute lap on the Nordschleife!-but which might as well be fictions. I have lost interest in so-called supercars and "hypercars". They are unattainable for most of us, which makes lavishing them with so much attention utterly pointless, especially when one reaches an age of maturity. But I have not lost interest in cars or performance, I just think that the manufacturers have settled into a decadent pattern that relies on milking the few super-rich and leaving the rest to fawn. I think there is another way.
Oluseyi S Shup up and go take your mother to the grocery store in your Prius. If you can't see what's fascinating about this car, than you might still be a virgin. Get a life!
Oluseyi S Just because you're a broke bitch doesn't mean you can't appreciate the nice expensive toys. You want a track car, go get a civic, boost it, and take the to the track since thats all you can afford.
Shorty15c4007 DolleHengst And the idiot contingent arrives, on cue. It's not (just) about price. It's about innovation. This vehicle is NOT innovative; it's a carbon fiber Lotus Seven with an Audi engine. Yawn. The "no compromise" stance is bullshit; in all likelihood the real reason there are no driver aids is because they require electrical and electronic engineering sophistication that Donkervoort doesn't possess. What contribution has Donkervoort made to motorsport at large, in engineering or materials or aerodynamics or control systems or…? While we're here, the Donkervoort D8 is also ugly. It's uglier than a Lotus Seven, it's uglier than a Caterham, it's uglier than a Morgan. Shit, it's uglier than a Prius C. Derivative, ugly, irrelevant. Meh.
£100,000!!!! ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS!!! For what??!! It doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before, and cheaper! Basically it's a track day car and for significantly less than that, less than a tenth of that in fact, something like a hot hatch could be built with similar performance and driven without having to worry about scratching it!!
C'mon, 380hp from that 2.5 TFSI is not extracting lots of performance, it can put out 470hp and 620nm with a uprated turbo&intercooler, exhaust and a tune by MTM. Of course, that would be fucking crazy in a 695kg car, but I'm just saying
It's basically stock, they likely didn't want to mess with it too much on purpose, either because they think its performance is already enough, cost or reliability.
bototheone1 But why? No everything's about power and raw performance. Colin Chapman's concept was low weight, not big power. Lag, cost, usability is more important than that.
The Lotus Seven you always wanted? No, that would be a Lotus Seven, not this fecking monstrosity. It's hideous and has the refined pedigree of a freshly flushed tikka masala. Feck that. So ugly even I wouldn't shag it.
Awesome car and the video, too! But what is the third company naming Lotus,Westfield, and then T... I am not a native English speaker and can not deduct, what company he is naming. Help, someone? Тhanks!
Im a big fan of Caterhams, my brother had one and for me its a bit dificult to accept the Donkervoort dispite his performance, and in fact it could be better than the Caterhams but because i have a massive love for those....i would take a R500 or 620, dont get me wrong i have much respect for the D8 but the Caterham is better in my book
Always had sympathy for the brand and the cars they produce. They are in so many ways the counterpart of Spyker, the other Dutch car producer, who seem to be stuck in financial contructions to develop never to be built concepts. Donkervoort race, build, develop and sell their cars to a relative small number of enthousiasts and don't seem to feel the urge to change or expand.
The lady started talking then He got into the car. This dutch car looks kinda quirky, and no doubt is fast, but I'd still much rather have a Locost I built myself with a 400hp turbo four.
If you could actually drive... With the script you write you could be a metrosexual Chris Harris! But you can't... So that makes you a journalist in a car.
i love it, so much want, but bringing that to Australia would be a pain in the dick, first the roads we have would rip it to shreds and second our police would make it so freaking hard, it would just have to be a track only car
whod need door or windscreen in a lightweight car ?!? anyway, We really want to see it against Caterham 620 ! but Caterham still my first choice. 2.Westfield 3.Ariel 4.Radical .... I would never consider Donkerwoort, but im glad it exists
Nice! Like this car... may I have one. Only thing I might change would the the front grille. In my opinion it looks a bit like a riding lawnmower (front grille only)...Why does everyone have to have a negative opinion to share, sorry, really like the background of the manufacturer and what they have created. Brilliantly awestruck, nice car guys.
Dope! (sorry, couldn't resist) I'll acknowledge the odd looks and the performance give this 7 descendent a pretty impressive presence. I'm glad it exists. That said, I would more likely work on a Locost 7 and learn some good welding along the way. #lotus7
This thing looks Stellar! If I had one, the only thing I'd like to change is more power! Its pretty brisk but I like some scariness in a performance car! The Audi sounds great, always been a fan so maybe a bit louder, more abrasive exhaust, lol
I love this car but if I had one i would swap the Audi Turbocharged for a V8 or a twin turbo Straight six like the RB28TT and for the V8 the voodo engine in the GT350R
