5:33 This would be true if the video upload date matched the discovery date. In fact, it only took one day for the ledge clip to become obsolete. At the time Manocheese found Hideout Helm early, I was looking for speedrun tricks myself, unaware of the SDA thread. These were the skips I knew at that point in time: - ledge clip to get past boss doors - using Lanky's arms to get past B. Locker - backflip through the wall in Hideout Helm lobby (as shown in this video) - terminal clip 2 (skipping the crown door and the Nintendo & Rareware coin door) I ended up compiling these four tricks into a video, which I happened to upload on 2009-06-10, just the day after Manocheese made his discovery. See this post for reference: forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/donkey_kong_64701.html#donkey_kong_64701 9 months later, Manocheese uploaded a video of the backflip method because I had deleted my own video for some stupid reason: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r0XJKtf_4O4.html Also, I believe that "pillarless" (7:03) was already known before I made a video of it, but it was deemed too inconsistent for use in speedruns.
Huh, I never realised that SDA post was referencing backflip Helm Early. Fair enough then, I guess that makes more sense since the ledge clip seemed very precise and I was surprised that someone would stick with that ledge clip for so long. Good to know though for sure, thanks for letting me know :)
Great job on the story of hideout helm early. Speaking of hideout helm early, today is the anniversary of me flying into helm early by holding the boulder in my hand while planking. :)
Very professional analysis. I appreciated the credit given, the bookmarks, the music choice and editing. If anything I feel you could have done a second take on some of these lines as they sometimes sound a bit stale. I am engaged with the topics, and enjoy these in-depth videos.
Thanks. I appreciate the feedback. Glad to hear that some of the new things that I tried for this video seem to have gotten a good reception. Definitely will work on some of the things you mentioned though :)
Ah, I see you simplified your user name. Now that's instantly recognizable. :) I wish you good algorithm luck, since the quality of your videos is already top notch. This was a great watch - there's still so much for me to discover in DK64 thanks to your channel. I didn't even know, telegrab was a thing.
I would love to speed run this game since it was my childhood, but my n64 doesn’t connect to TVs and emulators aren’t allowed for runs. I would do the 101% glitchless since that seems like the one that not as many people go for and would be the easiest to learn
1) Check your N64 is connected to your power 2) Make sure you have a console that matches your DK64 region (US/JP N64 for US/JP DK64, PAL N64 for PAL DK64) 3) If you're connecting to your TV via the Red/White/Yellow cables or SCART, you have to switch your TV Mode to AV/SCART 4) Make sure your N64 contains an expansion pak inside. Whilst a picture *should* show without the Expansion Pak, it'll be a message saying you can't play the game without the Expansion Pak. 5) If nothing else, take your cart out of your N64 and blow on the contacts of the cart and the contacts of the N64. Could be some dirt that is preventing the cart being read properly by the N64.
@@Ballaam it's the same game and system that i grew up with, so i now that it works. I tried the original cable that you screw into the back of the tv and the color wires that was released after the original n64, i bought that about a year ago, it worked for a while, but it was inconsistent and didn't always work. and now it doesn't work at all. it turns on just fine because the red light turns on when i do it. idk if it's the wires messing up or if there's something wrong inside the system.
@@Ballaam thank you so much, btw appreciate your videos a lot. Speed running is a art and I at least want to see my name on that leaderboard someday soon
@@Ballaam is there a way I can direct message you to ask you some more questions? I started getting the tbs down and the telegrabbing. But when I enter into the eye of the ship I just fall and not actually clip into the door
@@fnbits6484 I would advise joining the speedrunning discord. There's a help channel in there and there are plenty of people who are incredibly knowledgeable on RTA stuff which would help you out: discord.gg/0SFjSv4JkQcMRidH
