In DKC, Cranky was nostalgic for the 13-year-old arcade DK. Cranky became nostalgic for DKCR by the same measure in 2023. This is the equivalent of re-releasing DKC with motion controls and 3D models on Wii in 2007. Yes, it's better than nothing, but the last new Donkey Kong game was over a decade ago now. We're less than three years from Cranky being nostalgic for Tropical Freeze.

Awesome! DKCR for the Wii was and still is an amazing game. I just introduced my daughter to DKC Tropical Freeze and she loves it! Love the fact more people will be able to enjoy DKCR. I will pick it up for my Switch as well. I really hope we get a DKC HD collection of the original SNES games in HD as well as the DKL collection in HD on the Switch. Those games were ahead of their time and would look great in HD and would be a great way to introduce a new generation to these classics. Again, well done, Nintendo. Well done.

Surely nobody was expecting them to cram in a new DKC as a surprise at the end of the switch’s life. It’s brilliant to see this on switch as I missed it first time and wanted to play it after getting Tropical Freeze. I see this as a good sign - the new one will come for the successor!

Everyone complains about remasters or re-releases but I sold my Wii & all the games I had for it so I'm very happy this game is releasing for Switch😊👍🏻

I don't think I have the willpower to 200% this game again, but I will always consider my save file on Wii as one of my greatest gaming accomplishments.

Fun fact: in the ten years between 1994 and 2004 nine Donkey Kong games were released on various consoles (if you count Diddy Kong Racing, the gameboy games and Donkey Konga- that one with the bongos).

Awesome, even the 3DS content in DKC Returns will be included. I'm guessing Nintendo is bringing this to the Switch since they might have a new Donkey Kong game currently in the works. Speaking of Retro Studios, we finally have news about Metroid Prime 4 coming next year.

This was such an awesome surprise! I've been wanting an HD re-release of DKC Returns ever since DKC: Tropical Freeze was ported to Switch, but I didn't believe it'd actually happen. Especially at this point in Switch's lifespan. Thank you, Nintendo!! ☺️👍

The only "good" thing about this rerelease is hopefully an actually (legally) comfortable way to play without motion sickness or hand cramps. But otherwise, i would get it either way

Although I do have Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, I’d really love to get Donkey Kong Country Returns HD as well! I’m so hyped for this game’s release, as well as Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Mario and Luigi: Brothership and Super Mario Party Jamboree! I also really hope that Nintendo will someday make New Super Mario Bros. 3, a remake of and a sequel to Super Princess Peach, remakes of Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Super Mario Galaxy 3, Mario Kart 9, remakes of the first Paper Mario game and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, a Switch port of Paper Mario: Color Splash, a brand new Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, a brand new Donkey Kong Country game, a new Mario Baseball game and a remake of and a sequel to Mario Sports Mix! I came up with some totally sweet ideas for them, and I hope that all of you and Nintendo will love them all just as much as I do! I just can't wait for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD to be released! You got my money twice, give me a new game and this time let me play as the entire DK family. And you can go back to the old artstyle using the 3D models but this time cleaned up so the pixelation is gone and in widescreen. There is really no game that looked like the first 3 back in the day and it still holds up all these years later.
