I know right! I was watching this thinking wow she sounds a bit off in that intro, atleast for her, then boom just starts singing like the original recording. Phoenomenal man, just unreal, if you sing maybe you can understand how difficult it is to do what she is doing. Blows me away!!
Me too. First impressions were that her sound was off. After the second listen I realise it's amazing. She's doing the intro Rod Stewart style - and it's perfect. What a lady!
@@mikeevers9079 Yup, I believe the story goes that she originally wrote this with the intent to have Rod record it in the style and manner she displays at the beginning of this performance. She ended up keeping the song and recording it herself, as we now know. 🙂
@@SahiraSound I'm far from being a "dick," it was your comment that I interpreted as being aggressive. If not intended in that manner, then I apologize for being short with you. No harm intended. We are here because we all admire Donna and/or her work, and have that in common. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Megan Beus: She's singing the beginning of the song in this sort of country style because this song was written by her for Rod Stewart. But he never recorded the song. So, she did it herself.
it's Aug. 2023. I'm 75 now (born the same year as Donna and her husband, Bruce.) And I still listen to her EVERY DAY! Incomparable in every way imaginable!
I am almost 58. I remember when Thank God its Friday movie came out, I was 13. I took myself off to the city to go watch this movie by myself in the middle of the day. I loved Donna then and even at that young age, I could appreciate her talent. She had this ability to never look like she was struggling to hit any notes that she sung. There was no strain in her face like other singers would show. One of my all time favourite female singers.
The introduction is an homage to Rod Stewart who she wrote this for, but kept it for herself. We are lucky she did because we have another beautiful song of hers to cherish.
Did not know that it was written for Rod. I'm glad she kept it, and he didn't need it at the time because he had it going on with plenty of his own stuff. They were both at the top of their game when this was out.
As a kid in 70s Ireland looooved Donna Summer .... Remember going to see the film "The Deep" which she sang title track .. gutted when she died in 2012 @ 64 ..... Queen of disco gone but not forgotten RIP 👃➕.
I had this video and she explains that she wrote this song for Rod Stewart, but she decided to keep ot to herself, so she was going to sing ot the way she thougth Rod would do it, and then sing it the way she did, and it turns out she had a voice for every style... amazing, rest in peace
Nothing takes me back to the 70's faster...Donna had a voice that needed NO studio correction..few can carry the "recorded version" to live...but her voice is straight power and makes short work of hitting note for note..amazing
The original track from '79 where she holds that note for 17 seconds is remarkable! But then again, everything she sang was remarkable! This disco performance of "Dim All the Lights" is so beautiful starting off in a ballad format....then changing up to disco beat!
2023 and I still miss the uniquely talented Ms. Summer. I loved every song of hers, but this is my alltime favorite. I know she is in Heaven and one of God's special angels
When Donna left the stage for the last time she took a truly unique gift of her Special voice with her .I haven't heard anyone come close then or since .God rest Donna Summer ✨🎶🎤💃🏽🕊️🌟
I remember my parents listening to her when I was a kid and of course being a kid I didn’t realize just how special her voice was. I just knew she was fun to dance to. My Mom was diagnosed with 3 months to live this year and people kept saying play her meditation music. Blah! My Mom had me playing her Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Abba, The Eagles, Michael Jackson etc. In my Moms last hours she wasn’t mediating her way to Heaven, she was a dancing queen and I know my Mom wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. ❤Miss you Mommy.
I'm not certain that I have ever seen a singer use the microphone so effortlessly as both an extension of herself as well as an instrument. Just fantastic.
That intro was just everything.......wish she could have sung it a little longer. Its very rare to have live versions that are better than the studio/album cuts
Donna summer was not underated she was the queen of disco music a superstar with so many hits and such a perfect voice she also worked very closely with gergio mirroder
Donna lived near ground Zero during 9-11. She developed lung cancer from the toxins in the air and died far too young. Perhaps this is why her voice was raspy. RIP Donna. 💚🧚♀️ And we must end the terror imposed on us through false flag 🚩events. From Waco to 9-11 to Las Vegas shooting and beyond... They’re gonna keep doing it till they have is under full tyranny. We must say no. We do not consent.
@@loveinthemidst5841 I am inclined to totally agree with you! Donna herself admitted that exposure to the deadly asbestos from the buildings was the cause of her disease. God rest the soul of this great and irreplaceable lady!!
Miss Donna so much, what an incredible voice, part of my childhood, such a sad loss, amazing talent, you sang through my relationships brightened shitty days made me smile thank you amazing lady
Miss her music..When I was 10 years old "On The Radio" Album came out. I wanted to be Donna Summer so much!! My dad was in the Army and we had moved near Fort Hood TX. I missed my friends so bad. I was the lonely new girl. Kinda dumpy, kinda dorky but Donna Summer visited me every night on my turntable and I was a transported to a beautiful Disco.
I remember being in the disco and dancing to a lot of her songs. She's had so many hits one after the other always on the airways. She was such an incredible person and such an incredible artist. She had an incredible range and a wonderful voice that could go from low to high without one little crack. ❤️ Beautiful voice and a beautiful woman. She is sadly missed by us all. 🪻🍷🙏
Some people said that Donna Summer couldn't sing. She sold millions of records and won several Grammy awards and World music awards. Who agrees with me those people were wrong ? Music City Tennessee loves your music. Donna Summer
RIP Donna Summer you are amazing. You could sing any genre anytime. Her voice will never be forgotten. I get so tired of queen of disco title. That's only a small part of your journey.
I was sitting in Ellis Island having a beer, back in 2008, and one of Donna Summer’s songs came on. I looked at the guy next to me and asked “Why isn’t she singing here?”. It wasn’t long after that I heard she was coming to Las Vegas to sing.
Man, I still miss her! Such a beautiful voice, such a beautiful woman. Anytime I hear her music, I still feel sorrow from her passing. Rest in peace, angel.
She will always be my Queen!!! Not just the Queen of Disco/Dance but the Queen that showed me all these different kinds of Music!! As someone said before... She could sing anything in pure Perfection!! The most versatile singer this planet has ever known in my humble opinion. What a Fuc.ing Voice!!!!! I will always miss her the most!!! All my Love is always with you beautiful Donna!!! XXX little Paulo XXX
i always love watching her sing and how she has to hold the microphone far from her because that's HOW STRONG her voice is!!!! ^_^ She will ALWAYSSSS be a POWERHOUSE!!!!
