Increasing sub gain doesn’t change phase relationships, but you make a good point about shifting the xover frequency. There is a problem with boosting bass with the target curve in Dirac, because it rolls off the boost at the left curtain, so your subsonic gets left behind (assuming you have subsonic capable subs.) Another big issue with boosting sub gain is that if you use inconsistent xover frequencies, you will end up with a really inconsistent response.

The point I was trying to make, with ARC Genesis anyway, is it messes up what the phase alignment process does since everything it did was for where the crossover was before the sub level was boosted.

Your suggestions work fine for multichannel set up, not so much for true hi fi 2.2 two channel set up. For those of us who are true hifi two channel first enthusiast, the old fashion sub integration for music is also necessary. In my case, I have a Hegel h390 Integrated amp driving the main channels. The receiver does the processing and drivies the remaining channels (HT set up). I do my cross over at 110hz for movies, and at 60hz for multichannel concerts. However, the Hegel is also used for two channel duties and my subs are fed a seperate line out ( subs receive LFE from receiver for multichannel set up, and also line in from the Hegel h390). In the 2.2 set up, the main speakers receive full range frequencies as do the subs, but I set the sub internal low pass to 110 hz, and the gain on the subs is a good 15 dbs lower than the HT set up. Please note that this 2.2 sub integration is the way subs have been integrated for two channels for 50 years. Hey, I'm 64, and into the hifi addiction since 19. Thanks for your contribution to the community.

This gives me a good reason to keep using DLBC!

This is quite interesting and helpful. However, I have a weird issue with Dirac BC MultiSub on my Onkyo RZ70... Dirac does the measurements just fine, shows the curves just fine and transfers just fine. However, the results sounded off to me, so I checked with REW and found, that the Subs were set far too high. In fact, Onkyo shows in the "Levels" menu, that you should lower the Sub level by 4.5db if you are using two subs. After doing that, the Bass was just right. This feels like a Bug, and I have no way of knowing whether it is Dirac or Onkyo that is at fault, but that's what I consistently found on my system.

Im not familiar with that Onkyo but it is normal practice to subtract 3db for each additional sub so that the combined subwoofer spl is 75db. Multisub should be doing that so Im not sure. Sounds like it could be a bug.

@@hifihometheater Whether it is a bug or a feature...it led to FAR too much bass. And it is not documented anywhere, so that is a bit problematic.

If you’re looking for ideas 😃. A good walk through setting up arc genesis would be appreciated. One thing I’m struggling with currently is subwoofer setup using arc genesis. I move the subs around and take measurements separately. But when run together will they cause dropouts not seen in the independent measurement? Also, where do you put your microphone while running genesis. If you use the X as described on Anthems website two of the microphone location are in the general vicinity of your keester.

Using the X method. 1st measurement at MLP ear level. 2nd/3rd measurements in front of your 1st measurement no more than 2 feet away and 6 inches below your 1st measurement. 4th/5th behind your 1st Measurement no more than 2 feet behind and 6 inches above your 1st measurement. I usually do 1 foot instead of two but you have to make sure you are moving your mic between measurements as ARC is measuring your room not your speakers so it needs information around your MLP.

I have been thinking of how I would do a video on ARC. I will likely need some ARC files from different users to give examples of different situations.

I do the same thing but usually alternate the higher and lower positions; 2 lower, 3 higher, 4 lower, 5 higher. My thought is that its more of a three dimensional average? Not sure if it makes a big difference. I also have a couch so no reclining position to deal with where the normal X pattern probably makes more sense.

How would you make these adjustments for Audyssey XT32 with the mobile app and not the MultiEQ-X PC application?
@hifihometheater

Im not sure how you would do it with that app. Possibly add the curve to each individual channel manually? I haven’t used the mutEQ app in several years, sorry.
