You know Jamel, the best compliment that I can think to give you is that whenever I feel like I need my spirit uplifted, I come on here and watch a reaction of yours or two. Peace and love brother.
Jamal, I'm a 71 yr ol' white guy that just loves your channel because of your love for the music I've loved for 50 yrs. Your appreciation for so many kinds of music makes me feel like we could have been good friends. I'm totally with you in the fact that music can soothe the savage beast in all of us. Peace brother.
It is a trip to see Jamel's reaction to the music that we lived. I'm also 71 and believe our Government keeps us apart, so they can continue to take what they want. This lyric is the best, You don't know me but you're my brother. Peace out.
Haha I graduated in '71 and next week I'll be 71! The music of the 60s and 70s is still a great joy and comfort to me, and I still feel 1965-1975 was the greatest 10-year span in popular music history. So many diverse sounds and styles, all hitting at the same time! Hey Jamal, another great song that celebrates music is David Crosby's "Music is Love" off his fantastic "If Only I Could Remember My Name" album. Neal Young is singing background on it with him.
@Nancy Robertson My sister you speak the truth! Everyone is welcome with open arms, music will be the common denominator and makes all of us one thing, human beings.Like the title said "Listen To The Music". My sister be well and safe. Peace to you and yours.
“Why can’t we live together?” It’s a shame we have so much division and strife. We truly all are brothers and sisters. So much evil in this world today. I appreciate your work here, Jamal, you’re a good soul.
If everyone would get away from social media and the MSM we could all live together just fine. They are driving a wedge between us all so we won't be paying attention to what the government is doing.
@Don Mega I'm on that train as well just want to enjoy each day in song, I was raised in the Pittsburgh area, along with a diverse cast of friends we, all played sports, ate at each others homes, partied went to concerts the best of life had to offer a group of mutts. our skin color was never an issue the fun we had was, and is how life should be!
Jamel, my brother, I'm a 65 year old white dude and I love the message of this song and I love the message you are trying so hard to deliver. I'm one of your biggest fans. Keep up the great, great work you are doing. Love ya brother.
The great thing about the Doobies is that regardless of what incarnation there was with the group i.e. Tom Johnson era and then the McDonald era, the music was always fantastic!
You're such a sweet, adorable man Jamel! Bless your heart! I was born in 1966, and much of life in the 70's revolved around music. (My mom had the radio on ALL the time). So many different types of artists & music made this such a magical decade.
@@AR-ok Hope and positivity are not enough, it takes work...we need to overcome our fears and our selfishness. Oh yeah, and stop destroying the planet. Any species that cannot take care of the environment that keeps it alive will never be able to take care of each other.
MONEY CAN NOT BY YOU HAPPINES , But the 70s did , My family was young , I LIVED IN A VERY PRETTY PLACE IN Kodiak Alaska Had good friends And the music of the 70s FOR THE MOST PART SOUNDED GREAT We had HUGE LPS coming out seamed like every day , Dance music , Country Soul , R N B FUNK , Stair way to Heaven Led Zeppelin , Play that funky music Wild Cherry Earth wind and fire September Abba Dancing Queen The Carpenters Super Star , Partridge Family, I thin k i Love you , America A Horse with no name ,The Bee gees Staying Alive , Black betty Ram Jam ,, Im such a SPOILED 70s BRAT LOL
"Listen To The Music" wasn't one of the Brothers' biggest hits by accident. That was one of those songs that you stopped EVERYTHING for when it came on, no matter what you were doing.
Well I would have a crush, especially since he's tall, and so am I, but now I am too old to actively crush. Mostly too tired, usually stuck in bed. But he brings me happiness everyday. Like today I watched Suite Judy Blue Eyes, 3 times. I might watch again tomorrow!
Yeah they were scheduled for their 40th anniversary tour this year and of course canceled so as far as I know it's been rescheduled for next year as well as their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I saw that a few days ago. It really sounded good! They still sound almost as good as they did 40 something years ago! Just glad that I was around to hear them the first time around.
Jamel, you said “Why can’t we get it together?” I really think the reason why we had so much incredible music in the 70’s is because, we actually were “getting it together”. Black, white, Hispanic, Asian and everyone else that’s gonna get offended by me saying this. All of us that were young adults and older, when this song came out, will understand what I’m saying. This new found appreciation for each other is what inspired a lot of this great music. Listen to “Everyday People” by Sly & The Family Stone. You’ve only touched your toe in the water of the lake of great music from this era. There was a lot of songs about peace, love and harmony. America was finally trying to recognize the divisiveness of racial relations There were still many problems, but there was an air of “we can do this, if everyone participates and get’s it together”. I’m sorry if I didn’t state it exactly the way others think I should have. Get over it. That’s the way we said it to be part of the conversation. Then the politicians stepped in. Need I say more? No I don’t. Just like today. Everyone has an agenda. It’s really sad. We were going in the right direction back then, in the 70’s. I could write a book and I’m sure someone will be mad at me. I’m old enough to know that nowadays, everyone is too quick to judge and dismiss others. Worry about your own heart instead of bullying everyone else. Everyone makes mistakes in life. That’s life. I know, I haven’t knowingly tried to hurt or make a negative impact on someone else. I’m going to delete this shortly. I’m just sad and mad at what is going on today. Two steps forward and ten steps back. Jamel, you’re a great light in this dark world we have right now. Keep it up, Brother. You give me great hope for rescuing so many dark hearts and bringing us all so much happiness. We need you now…
I'll be 70 in a few more day and I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! You spoke from your heart, therefore, you said it very well. Think of Woodstock - all those people of different color united by great music and NO VIOLENCE!!!!! I'm not a religious person - but if I was God, I would send the world someone like Jamel. If his last name starts with "C" that would be too freaky of a coincidence - another J.C. to spread the word to love each other.
The politicians and rich, powerful people benefiting from tribalism realized they lost the culture wars. They put money, time and effort into pushing us apart. Because they know we greatly outnumber them, and if we're united as a people, we will take the power rightfully belonging to us away from them.
Summer of 1973 and sitting in the John Deere going back and forth in the field with my Grandpa Paul playing fine tunes while going around and around while planting the rows of corn, soy bean, wheat, alfalpha for hay or just cultivating. Sure did make the time something unforgettable and filled with joy. He's now been gone for almost 30 years and the great memories of such moments come rushing back through this wonderful man loving the music we did. May God Bless and Keep you and your family to give such joy.
My 34 year old son has been telling me same thing, he wishes he could've lived or grown up in the 70's. Keep it up Jamel, you bring joy to people of all ages. Me 60, mom 82 and she gives me a look if I don't let your whole videoplay. She talks to you she blows you kisses and she answers all your questions.
The ones who aren’t getting the message are scared. Of what I’m not exactly sure. I was raised around a diverse mix of people and was never taught to fear people who didn’t look like me or sound like me. I’ve lived abroad and traveled. We’re all way more alike than different. Music unites and so does food. You’re doing good work here brother!
So true Pablo, I've always l to travel and was just to the UK for Christmas and the people were awesome. I met people from Australia to Malta and so many places. And I love new and different music.
After seeing all the insanity on tv and social media, I was looking for something happy on you tube and came across your channel. I've watched for 3 hours straight! You have made a heart broken 61 year old feel good again! Watching your reactions reminds me of when I first heard these songs back in the day. This one I will be sharing with others on fb and hopefully will have more people come and enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing happiness!
Ahhhh! Another one has "seen the light" - the light of peace, love, and more importantly ... the light of "hope for this world" Welcome, sister, to the "Church of Jamel"
I be 62 myself and I feel exactly the same way. I’m reliving the greatest feeling when I discovered these new bands and went to their concerts. Thank you brother Jamel.
I was born in the right era....I got to enjoy 70s and 80s music. I was a child in the 70s but I still got to enjoy that music because of my older siblings. Yes there is a lot of hate in the world and that sucks. Of course they want others to be miserable....that’s why they say misery loves company. I don’t hate anyone. We are all human and all bleed the same color. I do believe that music unites us all.
I haven't stopped smiling while watching how you are moved by this song. I feel the same way. Totally feel it. We need another 'real' Woodstock. Love and peace.
OMG...... I’m 59 gonna be 60 in a month and YES!!! Your message is DEAD ON!!! Just found your channel and I can say I LOVE YOU AND YOUR MEASSAGE!! DAAAAAAAMNN PEOPLE!, listen to this MAN!! We all have to live together and let’s do it with MUSIC! Good music here!! Life was fun back in the day..... why do people have to make it so difficult theses days!?!?
Jamel, I have been watching your channel for a few months now and as soon as this song started I immediately realized what dawned on you moments later - This song is indeed what your channel is all about, and for a moment, this moment, you accomplished something I never thought was possible - You transcended the power of the music itself by letting your inner light shine. Together we are the catalyst, and the music is our connection. Keep doing what you do and being who you be, and we will keep coming together. Peace.
That's what makes this channel different from other reaction channels. Jamel has an inner light and when he really loves a song he can't help but let it show. Plus we LOVE it when the FRO comes out!!! Music was such a big part of the reason that the late 60s and the 70s were about PEACE--people of all colors dancing to the same music!
@@auntytutu idk its tough. I like diff sounds. But the doobie brothers omg. I like led zeppelin, herb Alpert, roy Ayers, danny Tenaglia, the stones, stevie Nicks, queen. Stevie wonder, lou Rawls, teena marie There are too many and too much diversity in my sonic jedi knight status. My defense is just as good as my offense. You cant put a finger on me
I love watching Jamel reacting to the music of my teen years, the awesome time that was the 1970's. Listen to the music!! How long will it take for us all just to get along together. The message is there!
I Joined the Navy in 1977, and was I was fortunate enough to see the Doobie Brothers in 1977 in Jackson, MS. What the people need is a way to make them smile, I smile when ever I hear good music.
“Give me the beat boy and free my soul. I want to get lost in your rock and roll and drift away”. Dobie Grey. Another good song in this vein is Paul Nc Cartney’s Silly Love Song. It has been much derided but I think it holds up.
Jemel, you are a treasure. A light through some ugly storms this year. You have touched so many just by listening to great music. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Keep up the love and we will, too ❤️
Re: "Born in the wrong era:" Exactly! "Why do you need new bands? Everyone knows rock attained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact." -Homer Simpson
“Let me make the songs of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws.” ~Andrew Fletcher~ You are so right Jamel, music UNITES, unfortunately much of the music of today talks about things that separate us. There are still some "Lights" out there just gotta look.
yeah the Tom Johnson key right there is that muted strum once you get that going on one of the songs like start out with an easy one like China Grove and next thing you know when you get that muted strum going the Tom Johnson stuff just comes so easily and fun.
Bring everybody together and listen to this music. That was Saturday night except we were in a pasture or at the lake. Sorry you missed it in the'70's. You were born in exactly the right era. While you can't hear it live, you can discover this eras music anew and introduce a new generation to the wonderful music of my generation. Your timing is perfect.
This band/group put out one hit after another, and it was all different, lyrics, music, vocals… They don’t just have groups like this anymore. I’m just so glad I’m a child of the 60s and 70s because that was some of the finest music that still lives on
When I get really overwhelmed by things happening these days, I say, well let’s see what our friend Jamel is up to....always puts a smile on my face and brings down the anxiety! Thank you !!
Last night, The Doobie Brothers were (FINALLY!) inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is so fitting for you to honor this -- their first hit -- by imploring everyone to "Listen to the Music." Beautiful!!!
I've been playing in the same band for 35 years and every night I play, people have an awesome time. We're not the greatest musicians, but we work well together and you're right...music unites people.
This was off their 2nd album Toulouse Street (no MM yet) which was a wonderful release. I just found out the Doobie Brothers are going to be inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame this year Michael McDonald included!
There’s a song from the 60s called “Get Together” by the Youngbloods that encompasses the hippie era of being united by the music like you just said. Smile on your brother, what the world needs now is love, sweet love ❤️ (that’s another song).
Seeing Jamel gettin' down and funky is cool but....what you said about getting us together in a room..playing 70s music and dancing is priceless man. Much love brother!!!!
So true, Jamel. I miss my black co-workers from DC back in the 70's. We enjoyed our lives, worked in harmony, respected one another, partied hardy. They were great. The best times of my life.
Jamal aka Jamel...as a Cuban American I totally appreciate your reactions. You are pure and totally about the music and the way we appreciate it. You sir are an asset to every American looking to connect with good music. MUSIC HAS NO COLOR, ONLY A SOUL! Love you brother. From a Cop in Miami.
I was born in 1960. Music was so important to us. We felt it and saw it as the glue that bound us all together, as our group of friends entered our teens. There wasn’t a fast turn over of songs on the radio, so everyone at school knew the words to the same songs. We’d save up money from babysitting or mowing lawns to get a new album. It was a big deal to go to the record store, find the one you were saving for, buy it, carry it home, slit the cellophane, pull out the sleeve, see if the lyrics were included, and play it over and over. So many important songs, many feeling like they were expressing what was in our souls. The songs we listened to defined the world we wanted to live in; thought we were living in. I still have my father’s and older sisters’s albums. Music is still that important to me, and I am so enjoying watching and listening to young people discover some of it for themselves. Thank you for being such a joyful guy. It’s neat knowing music still brings us together.😊
You need to do “All You Need is Love” by the Beatles, “Get Together“ by the Youngbloods and “Everyday People” by Sly and the Family Stone. Same message, different beat. This is my favorite reaction video ever. Just hit me where I live. Keep sending out that love Jamel, no matter what some may say.
Jamel - I guarantee that sitting down and having a beer or three with you would be a blast!! I'll bring the brews (the good Canadian stuff), you supply the place! I would die without music! It keeps my soul happy, brings people together! Thanks for providing an outlet for us to come together! Peace & love man!
You should see it, every time I watch your reactions, my 2 year old is glued to the TV dancing along with you. Every time he hears your intro, he's hooked.
