I love her when she first boomed. But when she talked about how unpriviledged she is while driving a fucking audi makes my non existent eyebrows twitch. People can't afford basic necessities anymore and now she's just flying to wherever whenever she can.
Then coupled with her closing her restaurant just because she's tired or trying to find life.... I am like dudeeeee you have employees. She is so not ready for responsibility in life. I can tell u she's still using her parents card
Some people just want to validate their success more if they label themselves as coming up from poor. Nothing shameful or wrong about being born rich but its kinda shameful when you label yourself as an average kid if you grew up around your friends driving fancy cars or attending private school.
i don’t hate her, i really like dooby’s cooking and all. but i really agree with the fact that she as a wealthy person shouldn’t complain about how privileged she is. she needs to go out of her inner circle and go know about other people who are actually struggling with their life and economic value. it’s the only way she can MAYBE somewhat “understand”. she literally lives in a luxury apartment. studied some “food science” major and then followed her boyfriend to london because she wanted to. she travels a lot easily just for the “vibes” and has rich parents. she lives very comfortably and is one lucky person for sure.
Yes, she needs perspective... But ... Who doesn't? I can say the same thing, about the people "struggling".. they too need to get out of their comfort zone, and experience the "rich" "privilege" class of the world.. why? To gain perspective... If granted, the "rich" willing to share a perspective to some one 'struggling' do not need to be billionaires, or gluttons, just people over a certain amount of money... Hmm Get the message? Make sense? It is just life.. so what: her story and words are more valuable, if she gave it all away for whatever reason? Nope, it'll be still the same,.. it'll be hers..
She victimizes herself with the most objectively privileged things about her life... it’s actually almost funny it’s like a whole ass living stereotype
for real, probably spent around 150k to rent, renovate and pay her staff, she clearly isnt even very involved as her bf looks at the brink of crippling depression from being overworked... In a normal restaurant who just started all the owners do every job available from serving, washing dishes, cleaning to save from paying staff until they start earning
Her having wealthy parents and parents that definitely cared for her, just for her to end up running to Europe like a year ago was so funny when she talked about having a fight with her parents. -like bruh you are literally one of the most privileged individuals I’ve seen. -when you’re parents are both dentists and you parents have actual houses in Korea in a city, you know you’re wealthy. -literally upper class, if not higher middle class. Idk how she can legitimately spew this nonsense.
we are just viewers at the end of the day we dont know her personally neither do we know what actually happened behind the scenes. you guys who hate on her are based on assumptions that yall theorized from what you saw in her vids.
@@DennysArrowdude you've literally not watched her videos, I can tell. Beacuse she literally told that her parents have a healthy relationship and rarely fights. And how her mother brings her fruits as a sign of love. 💀 she literally said she only have 1 memory of her parents fighting and her both mother and father loves eachother. To simplify it she's spoiled inside. But looks mature outside SHE'S TOO PRIVILEGED TO be even talking like Her family ruined her like no they did not 👏 HER PARENTS LET HER CHOOSE HER MAJOR WITH NO STRESS 👏 and she choose a career as a cook and her parents didn't even complain they supported her.
Lmao! She's just trying to sound deep. The biggest issue she has is that she was born wealthy. She knows that 99% of audiences aren't going to be rich kids, it's poor kids in college and or high school. So she tries her best to "connect" with her audience and unfortunately for her, kids are a lot smarter now. So they always call her out on her bullshit. It's quite funny honestly
I don't hate her, nor love her. I do find her content good quality and rich in content but something about her irks me. Maybe it's the people pleasing, attention-seeking masked with 'being cool girl' or how much she craves to be admired by society
It just kinda annoys me how she talks about random shit instead of the food she's actually cooking, lol. Like bro, you literally have a degree in food science. Please just tell us what you're doing and why you're doing it.
It’s her insincerity, I speak broadly. I think it covers what has been said in the many comments under this video. The vibe people get is insincerity, partly a facade, partly she has convinced herself of things that aren’t true about herself (like that she’s disadvantaged).
@@GuyGuysonHimselfyes. Also, for me I have issue with a girl with such limited life experience dealing out advice as she does. Ends up being wrong, she gets called out on it. It’s a whole thing.
what pissed me off the most about her was when she said what ruined her past relationships was her parents' perfect relationship and that them never arguing and never yelling at e/o was the reason why she always broke up with her exes and i had never wanted to smack someone so bad. as someone who was born into a dysfunctional family, her complaining and ranting about her parents' relationship was such a trigger. idk maybe i'm just a pessimistic a-hole but it really pissed me off.
She seriously said that?! Jesus christ, as someone who grew up with parents who constantly argued that is insane to me. She has no idea how lucky she is.
You probably wont see this but i don’t understand your comment. I don’t know when she said that and how but if it was just like you have said it, it basically means that she was often arguing with her exes and she broke up bc of that. What’s wrong about that? If someone never learned from their parents that arguing is normal at some extent, she obviously will break up with anyone for the smallest things. Correct me if understood it wrong.
when you're rich, you think everyone is rich. when you're poor, you think everyone is poor. She is a product of her environment. But she does need a good reality check and probably preaching about how disadvantaged you are and giving out life lessons while cooking isn't the best idea. Just talking about your techniques, what you've learned, and inspiration for your ideas. If you let a fool talk long enough, they'll expose themselves. A great example of how to behave, Nick digiovanni. People can hate how privileged he grew up, but he has never once complained and brooded in his videos like Dooby does. The only thing you can do as a privileged kid is take advantage of your opportunities and stay appreciative and positive about the things you DO have and keep on keeping on.
It weird that she acts as if she hold resentment and bitterness about them. I wouldn’t be annoy that they are rich but if their character is rude and out of touch
Honestly I think a part of her just wanted to be American and cool. I could be projecting but it’s easy to get this kind of wannabe complex from going to boarding school and college in the US as a foreigner. I think everything she’s doing now is just to show that she’s international, hip, and different. Different from her fellow international Korean students who graduate college to work at Deloitte
You missed my two favorites; her saying that she loves her parents so much and wouldn’t know what she’d do without them, only for her to say that she’s cut off her family entirely mere months later; and my personal favorite, her saying that she’s taking a break from dating and that with all of these relationship failure stories she’s been telling that it was finally time for her to be alone with some introspection for awhile which everyone wholeheartedly agreed with and supported her in! But then she went MIA for 3 months and came back with a video saying “I have a new boyfriend and we’re starting a restaurant together!” And once people had backlash about it referencing the previous video all she really had to say for it was “thanks for worrying, it’s none of your business, everyone needs to think about why they’re so angry, and it’s because you’re jealous you can’t chase your dreams like me.”
Did she just seriously just call twenty year olds who are barely able to survive, HUSTLERS?! She literally mooches off her parents, WHOM SHE STOPPED TALKING TO because they had a different opinions, and is trying, but FAILING in playing victim, her parents sent her to a VERY great school that THEY pay for, she’s like if Hallmark had a child. Just because you have a deep voice doesn’t mean your automatically deep.
@@soonsuicidal yeah she stopped talking to her parents because THEY HAD DIFFERENT OPINIONS!! Me and my family have different opinions, I’m not gonna stop talking to them over something as stupid as having different opinions. What the HELL is wrong with her?
Dooby is cool most of the time, but she tries so hard to sound like someone she's not when she narrates her videos. She tries to sound super articulate but a lot of the times it just sounds like a bunch of cliché writing trying to impress her favorite English professor. She's probably better off just getting straight to the point when she talks.
After hearing/reading about her fully privileged upbringing and having a social safety net basically because she has rich parents who fully support her, it seems her parents might have also enabled her behavior because she basically acts on impulse and just spends and does what she wants, like fly first class anywhere. Maybe she is able to "rebel" more from her parents and do what she wants against their wishes because she has the Tiktok and RU-vid influencer money now. But with her running away at the first sign of struggle/issues with her restaurant and quitting on her business instead of sticking with it dealing head on with issues, it's quite telling that she was in it for the social media/entrepreneurial clout or to expand her influencer brand. It wasnt because of the actual desire to become a chef and documenting that experience (which requires very loooong hours and lots of physical labor). Quitting at the first instance of obstacle also means she has never had to struggle and have the discipline to stick with one thing that doesnt go smoothly/perfectly - maybe because she never had to make things work, she always had her parents' support. She seems like a runner honestly.
thing is, she wasn't even the one doing all the hard work in the kitchen it was her boyfriend who had to do everything she just helped him bc he doesnt speak korean lol
I think it's funny how she complains about other's privilege when she literally mentioned that her mom was a doctor (or maybe a dentist? nonetheless quite well off) and that her family sent her abroad in hs to america. Then she studied at an ivy league university and complains she has no options? Girl please 🙄
"Oh woe is me, my life is so hard. Even though I am beautiful and came from rich family, I am always bogged down by societies standard. I've never worked hard for once in my life, I got everything I wanted and from the people I wanted it from easily. Every single day I struggle to decide which recipe should I make and which shitty opinion should I talk about. I have to work 3 full hours everyday to produce and edit my youtube shorts. Omg you guys life is so hard" *sips $2000 champagne inside a luxury apartment*
“ oh woe is me, I am ugly, broke and incompetent guy that can only cope by being bitter and miserable towards someone with better life. Instead of bettering myself I will just complain and play victim of society. Blame others for my parents being broke and not helping with my career. I have nothing to offer so I belittle someone cooking skills and their hard work. I do not have talent so this is my only outlet” you aka broke guy
@@MoidsaretrashmisandryisbasedNo, some of us have become successful on our own and we just don't like brats like her, but sure, project all you want 😅
What annoys me about her is her Hallmark wisdom that she spits out. The videos themselves are interesting, I like food content. But her ‘inspirational’ monologues come across as insincere for a multitude of reasons.
She also could've deleted it because it could be used against her in court. I saw lots of people telling her to take it down for reasons like that. I don't agree with her claims on the situation.
the problem is that all thes YT cooking accounts are so lazy and uninspired that they need something to set them apart - commentary. so they start to speak for the sake of just speaking and privileged people like her end up just saying BS to fill up the time
There's good cooking channels like Binging with Babish, You Suck At Cooking, Epicurious, etc. proving that there's still plenty of ways to do something new and different within that genre. Most people just lack the creativity and drive to do so.
She made comment about how her parents were working class, meanwhile her parents are acclaimed dentists, she drives a Mercedes, and she went to cooking school in a different country then dropped out because it wasn’t exciting enough for her. And then I think about my life and my family, and how we got kicked out of my childhood home and it got repossessed because we couldn’t pay the mortgage due to my dad’s extensive hospital bills. How we moved into a smaller house, where my bedroom was the closet in my parents room and my brothers room was a small corner of the kitchen, blocked off only with a curtain, the bathroom had black mold growing in it, and the house itself was invaded by insects all the time because the windows didn’t shut properly. “Working class” huh Gina. According to you, our families are both working class but we both lived very different lives. Now tell me who really is the working class family.
Eh, everyone gets to be a pretentious "deep" teenager/young adult once in their lives. It's just that, for us who are older, we never had the platform to broadcast it to the world and lay bare our flaws and things we'll cringe about later the way that Dooby does.
yea but cmon she's 25 years old and those videos weren't that old ..i just turned 22 and i can see how disconnected from reality she is ..and she's constantly contradicting herself like where is her logic ? but whatever i hope she learns better about life i like her channel and her cooking videos
@@zainebhidoussi1498because your reality is not hers. This is her reality. She's not disconnected from it. She's as disconnected from your reality as you are from hers. T To you, she'd above you, but to her, she doesn't see herself as being above you, she sees her Maserati friends as being above her. She's not trying to be rude. She's oblivious to how most people live is all. And 25 in her position especially (probably never had to worry about food) is young.
That's true. None of of us were born knowing everything, so at some point we've all said something out of ignorance. I hope she can learn from others' experiences to make more informed judgements.
Augh, just admit it. Dooby is spoiled. She should be thankful because not everyone has the comfort and privilege she has. She should learn how to show gratitude because someone got it harder. We don't need to defend privileged people.
Its actually so funny coming across these because I got fed up with listening to her content over a year ago and this is the first vid I’ve seen regarding her since. Im glad we’re all on the same page, the woman is insufferable
Yeah dude I agree. That video where she made persimmon jam and make a "joke" about someone's mom opening her legs was the last straw. Made me wonder if her Mom did that on the side.
@@angelaginger3770wait. Come again- What did she specifically imply in that joke?* Im a bit slow so please explain. It had nothing to do with vaginal secretions right?* 🤣🤣
Apparently she doesn't talk to her parents now because they have a difference in opinion. She lived off their money and now she wants victimhood clout so she drops them.
@bijjjjj yeah, wasn't it about some petty beauty standards disagreement or something? The stupidest thing to separate from your parents about. I have some DEEP family issues but we are still family, still together and at the end of the day we all have eachothers backs regardless of any circumstances.
Love all these comments finally calling her out on her bs…. Another massive thing i cannot stand about her is how she always sprinkles in unnecessary (and albeit unfunny) innuendo jokes in all her shorts…
it's always the same with these upper middle class kids. their parents try their hardest to keep them afloat after they fail, then they get bored and cycle until they find something that'll validate them enough. i don't mind her content and think she's pretty good at what she does, it's just insufferable when people try to act relatable.
As a fellow asian, we're good at judging other asians with our bs detectors. And I always knew her and zoeunlimited were odd some off. Her crazy dystopian life videos are proof she was just too privileged and out of touch. My bs detector towards other asians is NEVER wrong.
Dooby: “LiFe Is So hard!” Also Dooby: **Studies at Cornell University, travels to different countries frequently and finances a Korean restaurant in Seoul of all places without facing any financial hardships**
She's legit a whole peach kdrama main character. Very rich but surprise surprise she doesn't like that and we can't hate her bcccc she is a very good cook.
She opened a restaurant just to close it after a while She says her "rich" friends have options and whatever The fact that she went to College then content creation then open a restaurant in korea just to say she can't do it anymore. Gurl- 💀
people need to understand that people are allowed to dislike her?? like i personally am not a fan of her humor and how she acts, so i don’t engage with her content etc. people are acting like you need to love every content creator ever
[please read this in a cultural context] dooby is a south korean who cuts off her parents and by extension, her family. that says A LOT about her personality on one aspect and if you watch her videos, the things she talk about while she's cooking (not just the topics but also her jokes) says a lot about her. like this is hard to articulate both in common words and academic hypothetical analysis on my part but i've always felt some sort of a red flag from her (which is not surprising bc a. she's an influencer and b. she's a chef and c. she's an influencer chef) like i'd have to make a whole essay to break down her online personality
Exactly. Stopped watching her a while ago. At first i was like, this is interesting content and then the more i heard her speak i realized yea... i dont like this person.
She also constantly talks about how being South Korean is a struggle…like bitch not only are you wealthy but Koreans are in rn. You are not facing the same struggle as a Filipino or Thai woman.
@@morg678 they have big personalities and often times a narcissist and considering the workplace pressure they have to endure (hot/warm/humid place with stacking orders, complaints, responsibilities to their station and quality, boss who acts like a jackass in such a hot environment, etc.) they often have anger issues and turn to unhealthy behaviour. some go to smoking to relief stress, drug abuse is also popular, and some go to other types of abuses. i'm not saying being a chef is a red flag, i'm saying there are certain stereotypes to chefs, influencers and especially influencer chefs. the red flag i refered to was dooby as a person and her career path aids in the prominence of the red flag that's alr with her.
I really like doobydobap and her cooking is very good, but she’s always trying to be idk “deep” or “connect” with audience while being so incredibly privileged not just in the sense of wealth but smart and compassionate and healthy parents. I feel like she’s always victimizing herself not narcissistically but she genuinely believes that. She talks about her not being that privileged while driving an Audi and flying first class in a huge home. People are struggling to make ends meet and but basic human necessities to survive and she tries to relate by saying “oh yeah, ik how feel, I was once double booked and had to go from first class to business” but not with malice or trying to one-up you. She’s just out of the ouch with the reality of others who have none of the privilege that are so normal and basic to her she doesn’t understand that they are indeed privileges. I don’t want her to receive hate or anything but maybe she could educate herself more on the words economy and what’s it’s like to like off minimum wage in 2023
I’m sure not all rich people are this delusional but she is exactly like the rich people I went to school with. A lot were nice but they were just so into their own world and complained about the most rich people problems I just couldn’t connect with them on almost any level. My mom struggled all the time to let me go on the big trips that my middle school would have where we had to pay for it and those rich kids would be talking about if they wanted to go on this trip or miss the Disneyland trip like I can barely do any of those and they’re so sad about missing ONE. I don’t hate rich people, I just … can’t relate 🤷🏽♀️
Me too, me too MATE! 🤣🤣🤣 I always feel something off watching her videos and couldn't put my finger on it. After watching this video analysis, i finally understood what is it about her that ticked me off. Nowadays, whenever youtube recommend her channel i quickly click DO NOT RECOMMEND 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same. I used to watch her older videos and liked them enough. But something changed, or well at least for me, but I can't pinpoint the reason why I'm starting to get ick vibes. This video made me understand why.
She was obviously projecting when she was talking about her rich "friends" We all know damn well she's speaking from her own personal experience. Speaking of rich people having options she essentially had the option of having her restaurant fail because she definitely made a bunch of decisions that made no sense and would obviously lead to failure yet she did it anyway.
You know her restaurante is just money cash grab fron her audiences The more funny part is she used and did the same thing she used her advantage and privilege of being a rich influencer to gave herlsefwhatever she needs
shes genuinely good at cooking, her videos are very well made and they do inspire me to get my ass to the kitchen BUT her endless yapping about things completely unrelated to food makes it so hard for me to enjoy them anymore.... like tbh im not interested enough to know more about your difficult past as an international student in the US and how hard it must have been to be a daughter of two "working class" doctors... 😂 girl just cook
Mommy Tang is another very down to earth food vlogger. She used to be wealthy and dressed up … but sometimes life throws curve balls. Now she’s happier than ever and doesn’t do hair and makeup …and she’s still beautiful! Check her out.
girl you dont understand, dooby is not even that rich compared to my classmates. theres plenty of people like her, and i dont think she's being out of touch or anything. She's just stating the truth. Compared to the ultra rich, she's not all that wealthy
I’m gonna get hated but this is one of the reasons why I hated watching anything dooby related. Yeah, she cooks BUT the way she tries to sound or be relatable when actually she’s just being a whiny rich kid is annoying. Like stop. 🙄 and when she started that restaurant of hers 🤡
ah yes the "i'm 'comfortable' but wouldn't say I'm 'rich'," trope. very common amongst upper middle class koreans since they're "not millionaires!!" but can still provide for themselves 10x more than lower income households. Still gonna watch dooby but yeah, she needs to humble herself a bit
Me as a lower middle class korean who grew up actually poor, home hopping with my single mom because we couldn't afford rent.. hearing that sh** from them makes me so annoyed. I have a chinese friend who grew up with an house that her parents owned, all her life lived "comfortably" ( to me, it's luxury), going to trips every year, her mother being a doctor, and she dares to tell me how she isn't rich.... (cuz she isn't as rich as her billion dollar figure family friends smh)
I got so annoyed when she ranted about one pot pasta meals and how they're just bad, like not everyone has time to cook a whole ass meal and clean the kitchen same day.
That’s cap. She has a lot of talent with cooking & her video production is good quality. Cooking on shorts was and still is super in on RU-vid. She would’ve blown up either way.
I'm so glad other people realize the hypocrisy she portrays on screen. She's definitely not a bad person or something but she's literally insufferable with her self-victimisation. Stopped watching her after that
Probably the most out of touch 'influencer' I've ever seen. Stopped following a few years back when she posted that infamous video with the privilege thing.
Was about to click "Do not recommend this channel" as I've already did it to doobyshitybap a year ago. Was just searching for food to cook at home then watched one of her videos and i was instantly annoyed plus RU-vid kept recommending her stuff. It's so nice to see when you get annoyed by no apparent reason at someone then other people get annoyed too with a real reason haha
I do like her cooking videos a lot and I wish she would talk about relevant topics in her videos instead of forcing her non existent wisdom on impressionable audiences who want to believe she is as good of a person as she is with her cooking. I always thought that her words sounded weirdly empty and assumed she was a nepo baby because rich kids never really have to learn how to use their brains (or grow up) unlike regular people who usually have to figure out her "wisdom" out at age 12 out of necessity. Can't lie tho I do get a kick out of watching her be amazed by her own words which usually are very rudimentary critiques on culture and society that normal people wouldn't blink an eye at lol
Idk why she was complaining abt rich privilege or wtv BS she was on abt, but it’s ironic as hell coming from someone who was kissed by money from birth so..
