The music and the atmospheric sounds are SO spot on, you couldn't have even done a better job if you tried. So completely perfect and touching and heartbreaking. You have a fan for life.
Sorry, i only just saw this comment! Thank you so much, i'm glad you found your way to this video. Not many people stumble across it, i guess most people don't wanna watch my poor old Nan talk about the war haha. I wanted to explore the side of the war which isn't really talked about in movies, the life of someone back at home waiting for their loved ones to return. She told me lots of stories and i just wanted to bring them to life! But, thank you so much for your kind words. I'll pass them on to my grandmother also.

What a beautiful and moving story. My sisters told me about the doodlebugs flying over their house in the small villages on the way to London and how terrifying they were. Now I understand it deeply.

My ex's grandmother was riding her bike into town and she remembers vividly how a doodlebug hissed pass and over her as it destroyed buildings in the town and the impact of the explosion sent her flying off her bike. I was so intrigued by her stories of her childhood and how she grew up during the war, and she eventually joined the land army years later. it makes you appreciate your life a bit more.
I agree. In comparison to how it was back then, we have it very easy. I think its really important to keep these stories alive. This generation will be gone soon and what they have to say is fascinating.

My Dad was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart and he and his men escaped a Nazi Prison, by digging under the fence. He was born in 1922 and died in 1972. He was my Best Friend and I love him very much. Thank you for giving people insight as to the horrors of war and the strength of the people from the Greatest Generation ! ☝️✨❣️✨

Dolly (my nan) sadly passed 2 years ago now, but not a day goes by that I don't miss or think about her. I haven't quite had the courage to rewatch this just yet, but I will. I love Dolly! Such a beautiful soul.. She has a sense of humor as well I see where you get it from ;) I absolutely love hearing people talk about their life like this especially about WW2 because it was so tragic... one of my favorite things of all time is The diary of Anne Frank...and think it's beautiful that you appreciate these things as well... I was very close to my grandmother and I see you are too... She passed away several years ago now but I still think of her almost every day... I am so glad I recorded several hours of her talking about her life... Unfortunately it's only audio files but I cherish all of them... The way you Filmed this was so cool! It literally brought her memories to life! You never cease to amaze me Matt...this was really really beautiful... Great job!!!

As your beautiful grandmother recalled the days of her younger years, I couldn’t help, but keep having flashes of C.T.M♥️x It really depicts a picture in my head, of what Dolly would have gone through 💔😢 I loved that you showed us old pictures, and memorabilia from when your beautiful grandmother was only young, and married, and having children, whom would obviously be one of your parents 😊♥️x Especially during the war, and your grandfather being out during his call of duty. I’ve only just realised. I’ve watched SO MANY of your shorts already, and I can personally tell you Matt. That you are a truly talented film maker🙏🏼🤞🏻💯 You go to great lengths, to make us, the audience, really feel, as if we were there. Like a journey, of some sort. As I previously mentioned. Thank you for watching! I hadn't seen much that focussed on those in the blitz, I thought it was important to tell their story. . There was something truly terrifying about that silence between the engine and the explosion. My nan had some amazing stories, thankfully she was OK.
Oh my god! So good! 5:02 - Just as I was trying to figure out who he was and it came to me that she had just been talking about him... then the explosion. I don’t normally jump, but I jumped so hard, making a guttural sound, that I scared the living daylights out of my two pups snuggled up beside me. Dolly is magnificent and I’m hoping that the sadness she is expressing in the video is merely good acting and she didn’t really have to live through such sadness. She’s convincing. This is very well done! I am moved by how you blended her past with her present. I look forward to expiy
Haha that bit gets a lot of people. Really glad you took the time to watch. It gets a little lost amongst all the horror films on my channel but it's one of my favourite shorts. It was amazing to make this with my Nan, these shorts have always been really great bonding experiences. It was a bit of a mix, she did live through the blitz and would have the fear of the 'Doodlebugs' - and the parts about my grandad Ron are all true. She wasn't ever directly hit by the bomb though thankfully, that was embellished for dramatic effect. Really glad you enjoyed it! I hope I didn't scare the pups too much.
