A grieving woman struggles to move on after the loss of her twin sister. But, moving on is hard to do when she can still feel her presence. Directed: Matt Sears Starring: Renee Sears Music: Oscar Fogelström
Just a little message to viewers. Tabitha is my very intelligent, pampered and much-loved Bengal. She was not harmed or traumatised in any way during the making of this film. Treats, brilliant filming and very clever editing. Enjoy the film! Renee x
@Renee Sears When I saw the blood on your finger, and then saw the thing next to you that you felt with horror on your face, I was immediately like I don't like where this is going...!! 'Is she going to be eaten?!?' 😳 😄
Dark staircases, people crawling up stairs uncomfortably quick just about grabbing your ankle, door handles rattling and finding out that the cute moggy is not what it seems; damn it I love that kitty! An excellent, atmospheric spine tingler.
The cat wasn't the bad guy here, imma just paste what matt sears said in a different comment chain: "The main character abandoned her sister when she got dementia and stopped recognizing her as it was too painful for her. Eventually her sister died and she was consumed by guilt. She inherits her sisters cat and box of things. Inside that is a letter that details how her sister died, which is why she is so afraid to open it. Her sister begins to haunt her. She thinks this because of her guilt, but eventually discovers that it was because after she died her pet cat Tabitha ate her remains. She is attached to the cat. So to free her sister she eats the cat. Hope this helps."
This was absolutely amazing. There's something deeply disturbing about very human moans made by something that doesn't look right. ...and that ending, absolutely haunting. brilliant performance by Renee Sears. I still have chills.
Very good stuff, as always! I love the use of silence and empty space, it really heightens the feelings of loneliness and loss. I also appreciate the use of human moans rather than heavily edited SFX for the ghost. Human sounds are so horrifying, and the simplicity really fits this piece. Very moving, especially for a person who has a sibling with severe health issues. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you so much Marked! That's really great to hear. We actually stripped a lot of the music out last minute to do exactly that, so glad it paid off. I did try a few things regarding the ghost screams but you're completely right, anything edited just sounded off. So sorry to hear about your sibling. I hope they're ok and you have my best wishes. Thank you again for watching, and really appreciate your support.
Excellent choices! Akira Yamaoka once said that one of the most frightening sound design utilizes effective silence, and I absolutely believe that's true. Kudos for knowing when to use a quiet touch. And in the interest of encouraging you, I want to share that my best friend got me into your work some time ago, because I'm a picky snob when it comes to horror, and she knew I would love your stuff. She was right! And now whenever you post something, we scramble to watch together and gush over how lovely and refreshing your approach to horror is. So please keep up the great work, and know that your fiction speaks a great deal of truth to people like me. Thank you for sharing it with us.
@@KittyCrystal That's so nice to hear, thank you so much. It's amazing to hear when you people enjoy your work, it makes all the hard work feel worth while! I really appreciate all the support, it goes a long way. So thank you again. I'm going to be working on the next piece as soon as possible and hopefully it won't take quite as long. This one turned into a bit of a monster (excuse the pun) haha.
Ah thank you so much!! I know, she did great. Very proud son right here. You're very welcome, thank you for being a fan of my work and coming back to watch more. It's very much appreciated.
@@ReneeSe-entertainer-actress Ah, the awesome one herself! I'm sorry, I didn't see this comment before. It's awesome that your family has so many talented people in it. You must also be as proud of him as he is of you :)
Damn, the ending made my heart start to pump faster and faster. The noise of her ripping the cat open made me shiver. Like literally I was shivering HARD. But jeez the part where she was eating the cat probably is gonna scar me for a week. You do so good at scaring people. Good job guys👍
Very scary and suspenseful......well done! I have a question (spoiler alert): why does she start eating pieces of Tabitha? Has she just gone a bit unhinged? Thought the film was great, and the actress did a marvellous job.
Big time spoiler alerts. The very simple answer is so that her sister can move on. Her sister is attached to the cat because of what it did. As the sisters share a connection, shown by the lady starting developing the same wounds as her sister (the blood in the mouth and the marks on the neck). She eats the cat to get back what the cat ate and complete her sister allowing her to move on. That's the longer more complex answer haha. Really glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for letting me know what you thought.
Really i am so shocked to see response of public for such talented directors and writers on RU-vid platform ! You guys who create such short horror film deserve more recognition than any other multi platform director of both Hollywood and Bollywood or any other entertainment industry for that matter ! You guys make RU-vid worth existing ! ,❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Def one of the best in a very long time here on RU-vid. I'm always looking for ones that give me chills. This one did the job. Tthe actor is very talented. Thumbs up!
Pure Class!!! Suspenseful throughout. The atmosphere was so creepy that I was literally alert throughout the film so as to prevent myself from getting spooked out. It was like a Jump Scare may come at any moment. Great Work once again, Mr. Sears.
Love it! Very disturbing! Great acting from the cast - two-legged and four-legged! And this shows that you don´t need a huge cast or budget or lavish speacial effects to create scares. This was really the creepiest thing I´ve seen in a long time.

Imo definitely among the best horror shorts I've seen so far, and I've been on a hell of a binge recently... Lol. They've been the only thing getting me through schoolwork lmao. Best way to spend a break.
Only reason I'm giving this two thumbs up is because that's all I got. Really enjoyed the h3ll out of this one! Hairs are still standing on the back of my neck!
I am a big fan of the horror movies since I was 4 years old. And during 37 years of my life I have seen tons of them. I must confess this short video is better than any of the recently released full-format movies. Bravo, author! Biggest respect from a Russian living in China🤙🏻
Thank you so much! Of course I won't forget. I'll always appreciate everyone who watches my work and especially those that come back to watch the next film and support my films. So thank you again. Really glad you're enjoying the films.
Holy crap! The actress did a great job. Felt sorry for Tabitha but a Mother's revenge is a mother's revenge. Im glad the maker of the film let us know Tabitha is her pet. So we know it was not hurt. Great horror short. 😱😱😱
omg! That was hard to watch because I have a cat. I know! I know! No cats were harmed (that's why my omg is not in caps). That cat was probably starving to death. All cats, even if they are pets have still some feral in them. It's her fault for not going earlier and reading the letter. I honestly didn't feel that they had a close bond. I have a friend who does readings for people, to connect with their loved ones. For me, I want to miss them from my heart and mind and not my eyes. I have this huge fear of seeing spirits.
I’ve seen several spirits and while it was definitely scary and jarring it’s nothing like being face to face with a demon. I had one show itself to me as a five y/o. Cousins and sisters has sleepover so we all slept on living room floor. I got up very late to pee. Felt like I was being watched and as soon as my head hit my pillow I opened my eyes and there’s this girl sitting up my my pillow looking down at me. She had on a cliche lace nightgown with wavy brown hair but her face was pitch black. It looked like a black hole you could reach into. I wanted to ask her, “who are you” but something inside told me not to so I threw blanket over my head and eventually fell asleep. None of my sisters or cousins resembled her. It was weird because light was bouncing off her bangs from the kitchen stove light being on but her face reflected no light. It def wasn’t normal. It felt evil. I had assumed it was just a regular ghost but 20 years later I hear this Jehovah’s Witness talking about demons and how they show themselves to children mostly and usually take the form of a child and their faces are either extremely blurry or a black hole. This freaked my out.
Seriously there should be like something to rate a video so people can't dislike because this was the best acting I've seen on yt This bit is me coming back after the unforseen twist that it was the cat. I love it when the ghost turns to be a warning

We need more comments, reading the comments was the only thing stopping me from getting scared. So when I reached the end, before the movie was over I didn’t know what to do..but watch😩😳
Helluva film, Matt. Another awesome product. You keep creating and I’ll keep watching! I don’t think I’m the only one. Your production is fantastic. Quality that out performs other full length feature horror directors. Did I read this is your mother in the film? Outstanding job to her as well! To all those involved in this film! Keep up the great work, dude!
Thank you Brian! I really appreciate that. Yes this is my mother, was really proud of her performance. Didn't know she could act that well ha. Can't wait to show you the next film. Hopefully won't take me quite as long to create haha.
3:18am....can't sleep. Thought I'd watch a short horror flic. When her twin is climbing up the stairs after her - dude...I'm freaking out in the dark over here! 😳
First of all I did a dumb thing by watching it in the morning, I should have waited for night but I would still say it scared the shit out of me particularly in the stair scene. I love the way you create the atmosphere of the film. Like you create the location so isolated and the characters are always alone in a fucked up situation and vulnerable which makes us feel for them, I saw that even in ihit and makes us feel nobody is gonna save them. I don't know whether you plan it or it naturally comes to you, but that's so good. And The music director did a great job on BGM. Overall good short.
Ah thank you so much Mr Z. Hahsamust admit morning is a weird time to watch Horror, but glad it still got you!! The stairs scene is my favourite part! That's great to hear though, the atmosphere is really where i put my focus. It's definitely planned to an extent, but then a lot of it comes through intuition when filming and editing too. Feeling which shots work best and where to use music/sound design etc. Thank you so much for watching and again for all your support. Its great to know your hard work is enjoyed by people. So thanks for letting me know, its really appreciated.
When a cat owner dies and isn't found right away, then after kitty's food dish is empty and the human starts smelling, what else do you expect kitty to do, It's the circle of life. It doesn't mean it didn't love you. No reason to murder and eat it raw on the couch.
Along with the suffocating atmosphere in the video. My screen with a color-smearing defect made the viewing experience even more terrifying. My screen was darker than usual even though I turned the brightness up to maximum. While watching the video my face and a part of the space behind me could be seen on the screen. I imagined something was standing behind me and I could see it right next to me on the screen. And it made me hold my pee until the next morning.
Wonderful film! Cats ate my neighbors face after he died and wasn't found for a few weeks. I took them in, bad thing is they can never go back to cat food after that. They are really affectionate though as long as I keep them fed.
i dunno, i was confused. . it almost looked like the teddy bear was alive. I thought the twist was gonna be she thought it was the cat but it was really the bear and the cat was trying to protect her but now she screwed up and the bear was gonna get her, but yeah, i guess i was way off. I was also reminded of a song by Gwar, "Licksore" about an old lady who died alone in her house and the cat was eating her. .
I mean, I know the cat wasn't harmed, but just hearing her screams and imagining her suffering... I could barely keep looking, even though (I repeat) I knew the kitty was fine irl.
This is amazing! Everything is suspenseful and the actress nailed that part. I took my tabby to watch it with me, she looks like Tabitha with a different coat pattern
This was excellent! Though admittedly I was hoping the thumbnail was in the film 😂 its what got me to watch in the first place. Still it was very good❤️ the scene on the stairs scared the 💩 outa me 😂
Thank you! It's always a tricky one. You gotta grab people with the thumb but not give away spoilers! Really glad you liked the stairs bit. That's my fav part haha.
Strange and compelling movie...so much questions still : Was the cat the killer beforehand ? Did she sort of assimilated the dead sister's soul ? Did the other sister plan everything ? Did the other sister just go mad and dream it all along ?....
The main character abandoned her sister when she got dementia and stopped recognising her as it was too painful for her. Eventually her sister died and she was consumed by guilt. @@MattSears you should do the David lynch thing and never explain what your films mean. It’s like explaining a joke a bit. It cheapens it somehow. Leave it open for interpretation would be my advice
I absolutely love your work!! You deserve to be making full length films and even then what you manage in under even 20 minutes is absolutely astounding! any idea when The Gate will come out??? I've never been more excited for cosmic horror in my life!!!!
I was watching this....I saw the thumbnail of the video and I was like "oh! This looks interesting!" So I watched it......I was thinking "oh this ain't creepy" and at the end....I had tears coming from my eyes and it didn't make it even better that I had my cat next to me........I had to cover mouth to watch the end......but I liked it😅
Why am I watching these before bed when I have to wash my face and therefore have my eyes closed for a whole 30 seconds? Guess I'm sleeping in my makeup?
I couldn`t quit watching this .might I suggest a thicker audio filter for bathroom type scenes. Otherwise I thought it was solid ,very captivating. Thank you all .
Oh man. I actually added that noise in post as bathroom ambience haha. Are you referring to the hum of the fluorescent bulbs? Really glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for checking it out
Well Matt, I knew this would be good ,when it came up on recommendations & I was right. The same craftsmanship, the feel of melancholia & dread I have come to love in your work. Can't wait for the next one.
Thank you so much Ragestation! There's definitely much more to come. New short horror hopefully end of Feb/March! This one i'm really proud of. Thanks again for watching and following my work, really means a lot.
@@MattSears A pleasure Matt. You should definitely be proud. Your unique feel is there, the special effects work really well, tension+, another great short film. I decided to watch only short films a couple of years ago, have probably watched hundreds 90% horror. Some have been brilliant, others not so good ,but always great to see independent film makers overcome budget restrictions with sheer talent, innovation & imagination. Your films are among a few I felt the need to comment on. I think that says it all. Please check out my horror music videos if you are inclined. All the best.
@@Ragestation Ah that's so great to hear! That's a hell of a lot of shorts. Just out of curiosity what made you decide to watch just shorts? I'll definitely take a look at your videos. Been thinking of branching out into music videos for a little while but will see where life takes me haha.
@@MattSears Hi Matt, I am sure a music video from you would be wild. 4 reasons why I decided to watch only shorts 1. I felt that the derivative & formulaic nature ,of most of the feature length horror films being released, was becoming repetitive. They just didn't have enough original ideas to justify their running time. 2. To support new film makers. Much of who deserve to have their work viewed ,as the best of it is far superior to most feature films in ideas & originality imo. 3. I can watch an average of 6 or 7 short films in the same time it takes to watch 1 feature film & I enjoy seeing so many different plotlines. 4. I love seeing independent film makers showing the big boys how its done. The originality, talent & ideas in the short films I've seen over the last few years was way beyound my expectations. Thanks for checking out our videos Matt. Seriously can't wait to see your next film.
@@Ragestation Well thats pretty solid reasoning! I do agree, it's great to see up and coming artists. And they definitely need and appreciate the support. I've watched so many horror features where I can literally predict what's going to happen next. I've become quite numb. There definitely is a formula haha. Thanks again! Can't wait to hear what you think of the next one.

This was a great short horror film and my name is Tabitha too which peaked my interest to watch it and I have 0 regrets great job and I cant wait for more
@@MattSears Just did...Now I can't sleep, thanks. But seriously, good fucking job on the suspense! This is how a short horror story should be made. Big fan of your works!
