20:24 oh look, ANOTHER lifted piece of code enemy from an early 2000's Doom WAD called Demon Eclipse 👍🤣🤣🤣the original enemy is called Cybruiser in that WAD and it can be seen on multiple Doom mods over the years
Demon Eclipse which by the way is an incredible early 2000's Doom mod which has 2 separate episodes with distinct gameplay styles (1st episode Techbase-y, 2nd episode Heretic-like...) with two distinct sets of weapons for each episode and entire new set of enemies (a Test map is included)
Fun thing with Archviles resurrecting Archviles. If you they are trapped in a space with 3 or more of them, they become practically immortal because you won't be able to deal enough damage fast enough. At that point, the only solution is something like the Morph Ovum. So probably don't give the enemies the ability to cheat unless you're going to cheat.
You could, if the room allows, Dodge them enough to deal SOME damage to the three of them without kililng, and finish them with a BFG, or some lucky rockets
@@FeelingShred quote from xolgonoth "literally named after the movie, specifically the Czech localization, the name would translate back to "Jack's building a house" I thought it sounded cooler this way plus the ending to map03 is meant to mimic the movie's finale"
Holy crap @decino, so this is what you meant, eh. Archviles can resurrect EVERYTHING. This map is my worst nightmare. Forget single segment, I won't ever be able to finish this map even with save scumming.
As soon as you said the arch-viles could resurrect pretty much everything, I immediately had one question: could they resurrect a player corpse? Like, would it create a new enemy or something? It could certainly make for some interesting interactions in multiplayer.
That's pretty cool. I wonder what it would look like from the player's perspective? If the new body somehow moved, would the camera still follow it? Or would the camera remain where the corpse last was?
Definitely the archies. I think dsda which decino runs has a quick save/load feature so switching menus should not be a major hindrance. Right?.... Right?😅
I´ve never been able to watch the livestreams, but its good to binge them on weekend. Also, i agree with those saying that its funnier to watch that wad instead of playing it lol
Hi Ducino :) I've noticed over the years that you don't use hotkeys for save and load (F2 for save, F3 for load). These hotkeys are from the original Doom, and work fine in modern doom-ports. Try to use them, and there will be no such confusion as in the menu of this wad. These hotkeys are convenient to use and they save time during training and practical runs, and they will come in handy during streams. Best regards, good luck.
This wad was as creative as it was cruel. And I don't say cruel in some edgelord appreciative way. There was such calculated unkindness in the gameplay that it was genuinely unpleasant to watch, for someone empathising with your frustration. Even in a non-blind run. I can't deny the talent behind the construction of these traps and taunts. Not unlike the early Saw films. But I don't like watching tortureporn. At least seeing you Single-Segment that deadly floor fight made me smile. Well done! You definitely dun git gud son.
The save/load reversal is such a dick move that I'd already decided I would never play this WAD before seeing map 3's gimmick. I'm sorry, but I don't find that cute or clever at all, it's obnoxious and not funny. But it's still fun to watch decino struggle with this blatantly unfair BS, I couldn't have such a positive attitude about it.
Ancient Aliens crosses a line where I consider it to be gimmicky too... Eviternity I haven't finished half of it yet so I don't know what's that one like
@@FeelingShredI havent heard of the first and last one mentioned here will try them out after my Skyrim phase and also completing this mapset called Rush.
It's easy, you just have to change the way you're thinking: Load Game - You load your game data inside, having it stored for later. Save Game - You save your ruined game by using the data you load before.
Ah, good old annihilators, always happy to see them. i think I first saw them in Valiant. Was one of the first ever Doom wads I saw. I'm really happy that I don't have to play this monstrosity myself and can just watch you do it instead. Hey, do you think we can bully coin into single segmenting this? xD
and they have been used on countless Doom mods over the past 15 years, but for whatever reason people make no mention of the original, no idea why that happens
@@FeelingShred Good to know. called them Annihilators because that's what decino called them in this stream and I think in one other wad that I forgot about. But i do know that they are usually called Cybruiser. I think they were also called that in Valiant. Haven't heard of Demon eclipse yet, but I'll see if I can find a playthrough of it and check it out. 👍 (Didn't mean to imply that they were from Valiant, that's just the first wad I saw that had them.)
Iirc the baron with rockets is called a cybruiser. Archviles rezing everything now, gyaat damn(tbh idk what wizardry would be applied for the meatballs). Also no fn way I'm not shitting anyone I called the 1% health gimmick.
yes the ones at 20:24 they are Cybruisers, if I'm not mistaken they come from an underrated early 2000's Doom WAD called Demon Eclipse (which is divided in 2 episodes with distinct weapon sets for each and custom monsters...) 1st half plays like Doom, 2nd half plays like Heretic
So, if an arch-vile revives crushed corpse we get a glitched enemy that can be killed only with a splash damage, and if archvile revives a crushed cyberdemon or spider mastermind corpse we get a completely invulnerable cyberdemon or spider mastermind?
for a brief section of time, Zdoom gzdoom were the only ports that worked without "issues" on modern systems (after the transition from Windows 7 into Windows 10) It was the only port that had smooth mouse movement on that period, so I guess people found it easier to run it (until about 2016 is was a nice port, and then problems started which included not supporting old GPU's anymore and game started looking darker and blurrier with each new update...)
then after that, people started noticing other issues related to AI behaviour being different, because it's not truly a source port, it's more like a recreation from the ground up
which lead up to people finding that their computers would be able to run any modern Doom map with no slowdown whatsoever using Prboom or other variants... and by doing that they also found out that they could play the game once again like in the 90's that maps looked bright and colorful once again, no crappy darkness and blurrying everywhere
Elementalism is such a disappointment half the time. The maps are gigantic, beautiful to look at and so promising, but then you find yourself being stuck at every new room for battle encounters that are far too unbalanced for their own good. On every room you enter... it gets very tiresome after a while
meanwhile other maps such as Avactor and even Exomoon have more balanced encounters (I'm more fan of the more laid back sequel called Ozonia)... what is the name of that other one... Malevolence yeah, that one very good too
Elementalism definitely isn't something you can play on without savescumming all at once. Well, it is possible but frustrating. And that's not even because of the difficulty, but because of huge each map is.
So, is there any particular reason map 03 is restricted to 1% health? Like, you can make any map arbitrarily hard by removing health, ammo, and putting in more monsters, but is there something special about this map I'm not seeing that makes people actually want to play it? I'm genuinely confused lmao.
There's a difference. Yes, you can make any map arbitrarily difficult by restricting it to 1% health, but a lot of the more hardcore maps will just become impossible, because they (just like map02 of this) tend to rely more or less on unavoidable damage. Map03 was specifically designed with that 1% health gimmick in mind and all encounters were made in a way that it is reasonably easy to do them without getting hit. The difficulty comes more from the sheer time you need to play perfectly for, but I think a single segment is possible, I've practiced this map a lot and eventually did it on just two saves, one after getting the shotguns and berserk, and one before the finale. I just don't really have the speedrunning patience to grind it into an actual single-segment run.
Since archviles in this WAD can now resurrect cyberdemons and spider masterminds, does that mean that a map using the same constraints and code could allow for ghostly cyberdemons which would be pretty much unkillable monstrosities since cyberdemons are naturally immune to splash damage? 0_0 On the one hand, that does sound like an interesting gimmick for a map, but on the other hand, it would need to be one heck of a visually interesting puzzle map to be even worth playing as being chased by a cyberdemon which can walk through walls and which is entirely impervious to any damage would not be very fun at all. Unless this hypothetical puzzle map had the player carefully managing strategically placed invulnerability spheres whilst navigating a labyrinth, or perhaps the ghostly cyberdemon would only occur as a consequence of the player's actions; i.e. you choose to crush the sniping cyberdemon in a certain area, or simply dodge its rockets as you make your way through the map.
The maps look cool, but swapping save/load is a horrible thing to do. It'll program people to flinch whenever they save/load in normal play, forever, for no good reason. I would never touch this WAD without first patching that shit out.
