Holy crap, you actually played the entire thing. That’s like eating an entire week’s worth of food in one meal- no matter how much you enjoy it, you’re gonna be sick afterward. Still, this stream was fun to watch, as always. Looking forward to the next one!
@@dr.defientz5992 people from Brutal Doom Discord server noticed your multiple comments during the livestream and called you a troll. I'm informing you
For note, you keep mentioning things like "oh no, hitscanners", in brutal doom there are no hitscan weapons, there is no enemy that hitscans, and not even any of your weapons hitscan except for the railgun. All hitscan weaponry was replaced with things that throw actual traveling projectiles, which you can dodge without much difficulty especially when you're in a big open space with a bit of practice.
@@robowisanveithasung6022 Yep, I know, just that they aren't actual hitscanners so they aren't as immediately deadly as their vanilla counterparts for anyone else reading.
@@robowisanveithasung6022 Lol, definitely still true, but once you learn them then it's possible to dodge their shots if they aren't too close, even on fast monsters.
Wow. You did the whole thing. Great job going through the whole thing without taking a break. I saw how bored and exhausted you were at the end. Never make promises
During the stream, I joked about Decino being almost broken by the Brutal DOOM. Which I think was fair considering how miserable he sounded at that point. And then the Wolfenstein level came and I scratched the "almost" part. I hope You got some rest after all of this. You deserved it.
I understand what Decino meant by Brutal Doom being 'draining' to play. I prefer to play mods like Brutal Doom and Project Brutality in short bursts not 8 hour straight during a livestream.
@@dr.defientz5992 No he was not, acept it for gods sake. The drama IS fake, Brutal IS better than vanilla, you ARE a boomer with a WRONG opinion, you HAVE to reply you absolute coward and Stfu
Whenever I boot up some project brutality, I can definitely play good bits of a megawad. About 5 or 6 levels in one sitting. It really does depend on the levels themselves whether or not you can play much of a certain mod.
I can't believe you did this, this mod looks super fun but even my favorite games of all time I can't play for 8 hours straight without taking a big break or switching games
Always love watching the whole livestream back afterwards. You mentioned that DOOM 2016 had a much more memorable soundtrack than Eternal - apparently there was some controversy because Mick Gordon didn’t finish the work on time and the studio had to fill in the gaps
I love both, been playing vanilla doom since I was 5 years old (22 years ago) and played it on the PS1 first. Brutal doom is a nice refresher and brings new gameplay elements to the table but you can't beat some good old vanilla, that's for sure. I haven't played extermination day yet but it does look draining, especially after almost 8 hours straight play. MIssed the stream sadly but really enoyed the vod. Hope you had a damn good night's rest after this one :)
Loved the sgt mark memes. Great stream dude!. Some of my favorites: I heard that.. - Sgt Mark approves global warming. - Sgt Mark eated that damn bat. - Sgt Mark prefers the sequels. - Sgt Mark modded covid into real world. - Sgt Mark wrote TLOU2.

I was a Brutal Doom fanboy for a good year, but after I found decino's channel I started playing classic Doom again. Pistol-started first 3 chapters of Doom 1 and all of Doom 2. Came back to BD and it felt like a different game. It took a massive leap towards more mainstream game design. It is not a bad choice, game still plays great, but the level design is abysmal. Guns and gore were nice, but distracting. I suppose decino turned me into a Doom purist, haha.
Original Doom just feels slow and methodical by comparison, granted it was balanced with people using just KB or the mouse(no mouselook). Mouselooking completely destroys the balance.
@@shmekelfreckles8157 Nope, Doom was made to play with either keyboard or mouse (Romero was the one really this at Id). The balance and level design was build around this even with Final Doom expansions. Mouse-looking didn't exist only came about with source ports.
@@Krogoth512 lol, no, you could totally have mouselook in OG Doom. And about balance... I think I’ll trust Romero on this one over some random dude in yt comments.
It was enjoyable to watch this stream. Especially map 43. Can't wait to wake up, brush my teeth, take a shower and play this map aaaall day long. But seriously, thank you for keeping your promise. It was fun watching u playing Brutal Doom.
@@dr.defientz5992 no they're not, just bc there is a fake history about mark doing something and brutal being BETTER than vanilla does NOT mean its bad
Been playing Doom for 7 months, first introduced via DoomRetro before using other ports, and I have been almost just as much of a purist with classic Doom. I make maps in Boom format and play without mouselook and all. But occasionally I’ll boot up Brutal Doom and just have a little fun in it, pairing it with my own maps or other PWADs out there. When I’m in the mood. It has its own charm to it, so it’s completely understandable how it doesn’t appeal to everybody.
Thanks for the livestream and shedding a light on BD for classic Doom fans! I've watched the entire thing live, and yeah, that was overwhelming for a single playthrough. Eday is probably a good thing to play for 60-90 minutes a day and complete it in a few weeks, giving it both good appreciation and cringe. Though it's designed to show the whole palette of the work done, I guess some good story-driven wad for classic Doom (like hellbound) would be more suitable, to unwrap the mechanics and have a better final impression. I'm really glad about what you said in the end - despite being tired, you knew that there's more to it and some people may find that it's their thing. Thanks for that!
And thank you for the support and nice comments throughout. I hope my negativeness didn't drive away people from trying this mod, clearly there's a passionate community that does enjoy it a lot. Like I said, don't listen to me, I'm just a filthy purist.
@@decino it did not :) Everyone plays what he like personally. Also the fact that you did not find all possible stuff makes experience worse (e.g. proper melee combat with comboing 2 fire buttons and kicks, which allows effective fight without berserk bu onl if you're experienced in this, really requires skill, Unmaker at map25, proper usage of minigun, as grenade used to stun enemies for finishing them off fast), The fact that mappack is not the best for meeting BD itself, That you did not saw manual with weapons characteristics, as actually every has different properties unlike vanilla, Just insanely long streaming time at once This all is understandable. Hope to now that you will find it better after a while. Especially with upcoming patch, as current is really unbalanced at some points. But why did you feel smth like shame for not loving mod?

I played this mod when I first got into classic doom, I'd bought and played 2016 and thought I'd try the originals. After playing through the games I stumbled upon IcarusLiv3s channel, and lo and behold this was one of the featured mods. Coming back to it now after things like TTech and wonderful mapsets like Eviternity and BTS X, it feels so much worse. Props to you for playing this in one whole sitting, you dutch madman. Cheers from the US.
Hey Decino, I watched for a hour or so but had other commitments, so will catch up later. Thanks for the stream and all of the effort you put into your videos and the channel in general. Congratulations for hitting 100k - well deserved!
Finally watched the whole thing :p I think one of the biggest annoyances is definitely the map-pack, as it is sorely lacking in HP items and designed around Brutal Doom, so it expects you to use the Rip And Tear mode to get HP back, except that feature is not always a valid option, so you get stuck in either a slow-slog limbo or a "fuck it, gonna skip over everything" mentality. That and the city maps try way too hard to go for the realistic approach, and don't offer enough sections where it was curated to be fun by sacrificing realism. Glad you had some fun with the mod at least. Looking forward to more Plutonia2~
It was a good stream but I legit felt bad for you after a while. I cannot Imagine myself playing 8 hours of something I don't even enjoy. The sgt mark jokes were fun tho.
@@dr.defientz5992 We get it, he's a garbage human being. People can still enjoy things without condoning their shitty creators for their shitty words/actions.
@@Vordikk yep. It’s best to separate content and creator or you will end up hating a lot of great mods. If you like all the extra gore, might I introduce you to universal gore mods? One of them, Bolognese, was made by the same guy, and Nashgore, _not_ made by the same guy, is also pretty solid
Just use bolognese + weapons of saturn. Experience BD without none of the bloat or the immensely stupid design choices. And roughly 500% better coding.
This is regrettable that you had to play it. Big congrats on the 100k achievement though. I kinda stopped commenting on the videos you upload, but your playthroughs and playlists of wads are very often in my background while I do work. At this point, everyone already said how good your videos are, and... well, they are! It's the truth. Thank you.
Excuse me, but why it is regrettable? A good mod for a good game. On a good channel as well. Mods gives new life to a game. And making them is no easy task as well (not sure why, but I have funny feeling, that you may know it, maybe not necessarily with Doom).
@@СергейМисюк-ж1к Decino is not a fan of total conversion mods for Doom. He is a Doom "purist". He doesn't mind mods that change the graphics and weapons and stuff, but changing how the game actually plays like Brutal Doom does, he usually avoids as much as possible. On top of that, it just tries way to hard to be cool and edgy and he doesn't really vibe with the tone. The only reason he played it here is because he set it as a goal that if he hit 100k subscribers he would do it, almost as a joke because he thought it would take much longer than it ended up taking to reach that milestone. So in short: Brutal Doom ticks every box for things he doesn't like and would normally never play.
@@smward87 don't worry, I've discovered all these things within few months later. Even more, I became... a fan or something like that. It's striking how many of the features in Brutal Doom (glory kills, "E" to interact with things, blowing up enemies, low ammo count) are also in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal
"Proto" glory kills show up in the canceled Doom 4 vídeo from 2007, it was kinda common at the time, with games like duke nukem forever and serious Sam 3 also having it
@@dr.defientz5992 Brutal doom is playable with every vanilla Doom map. Hideous destructor is not (some vanilla maps simply cannot be completed with that mod). If you want to make a "tactical" or "realistic' Doom experience, Hideous Destructor is not the way to do it. There is nothing "tactical" about soldiers reloading their own cartridges in the field (that's just dumb). There's nothing tactical about expecting one normal marine to clear an entire facility of hostiles on by his lonesome self. There's good reason why every tactical game that emphasizes realism has the player working in a team (either with AI teammates or with other players), not going on a one-man killing spree. Doom's engine cannot support something like ArmA levels of realism. If you want to have a hyper-realistic Doom experience, try modding ArmA to feature Doom enemies and guns, although I don't think the demons would work all that well, so it would mostly just be fighting former humans and zombies.
@@Schwarzvogel1 I might use heavy save-scumming and single-segment runs to try beating those maps. Can you tell me which vanilla Doom Maps are impossible on HD?
Ultraviolence is always a good start for any doom wad. Black Metal ramps it up a bit but feels unfair at times. I usually play realistic and the flow changes dramatically, sometimes it feels like a different game but it's still enjoyable. I feel bad for savescumming after every major segment of gameplay but the adrenaline from the possibility of dying from even a zombie solider keeps me playing. Back to Saturn X is very fun on that mode.
That was a great stream :) although brutal doom isn’t for me, from a technical perspective like it’s really well made. I can definitely see why people like it. Congrats again on the 100k!
I really enjoyed this a lot. I wish there was more live-streams, I wish I could of stayed for the whole video-stream, and I wish that there were more non-traditional-vanilla-mods you would try out time to time... Thank you for doing it even if you didn't especially like it or enjoy it.

Brutal Doom and similar mods are neat, I can see that a ton of effort has been put into their development and I understand why people enjoy them, but every time I try something like this I can't shake the feeling that it basically turns Doom into a modern style FPS. At that point, basically everything the mod is doing in Doom has been done better in actual modern games, so why shouldn't I just be playing one of those? Again, I totally get why some people enjoy this sort of thing, and as for myself I've occasionally even used Beautiful Doom's custom weapons, but most of the time if I'm playing Doom it's because I'm looking for the rush that comes from how pure of an FPS experience it is. The original had all the fat trimmed so to speak, albeit for optimization rather than style. It's almost like high-speed chess where your pieces are your movements and arsenal and the demons are your opponent's.
1:39:19 Yeah I got a question for you, Brutal Doom when? Grats again on 100k, I'm watching this on my short downtimes at work so it will be a while before I can watch through it all.
