A third of the movie should be sci fi drama about Argent research spliced with animated Slayer Testaments, and then they unseal Slayer's tomb and it's 60 minutes of guns blazing and glory kills, sometimes in third person.

@@Eldor-117 nah it's definitely a doom movie. It even has its own Dr. Betruger. It's a ship built to teleport through black hole gates. Doom's Phobos Anomaly was caused by teleportation experiments. It comes back corrupted by hell like the ship in Final Doom: TNT. It makes you hallucinate like the Marine in Doom 3. Boom Event Horizon is a Doom movie.

I'm so glad he mentioned Karl Urban's acting in Dredd. He's the only actor I can think of that's okay with only showing half of his face for the whole movie, and that half-face is always frowning. Fuckin killer, his acting carried that movie.

Chris Handsome the closest we have to that is evil dead 2, and that’s half comedy because otherwise it’s be real hard to keep us engaged with one guy fighting awful things for ninety minutes (even if it is the amazing Bruce Campbell)
@@cjnf11 Honestly, Dredd makes a good model for how to make a Doom movie that works. A relatively simple action film with a ton of irreverence and dark humor (Though I'd make Doom a bit more slapstick in occasions, think in an earlier Evil Dead kind of way.) but enough style, visual worldbuilding, and raw brutality to keep you interested and taking it seriously; all set against a rather tight premise that keeps the action flowing well. I'd also probably make it kind of claustrophobic like Dredd was, I know Doom is very movement based but you can still have that in a kind of confined setting, I think the confined setting is a good way to keep a certain urgency to the notion of constantly moving forward though. Its a good way to make the "troughs" in the stories pacing to automatically generate a bit of uneasiness and tension because you want to get moving again and a it'll allow the writer a good opportunity to generate anticipation without having to rely as much on the characters and actual "plot"
Loved that game back in the day. Eight Perfect Sims on Felicity, set up a bunch of laptop gun turrets in one of the back rooms and just pray - that was like the very first horde mode for me and my sleepover buddies 😁
so much stuff he could do, i am glad he took my advice from the list of stuff that would fit this channel and did Alien Resurrection, makes me think he actually saw it, read it and took it into account, and he could (and he did) other stuff that is not just straight fps

if you want to make a competent doom movie: -Have the doomguy -However, don't have the doomguy be the main character, because his character arc is flat and his actions are way more spectacular and mysterious from another characters perspective, plus he doesn't necessarily have the character stakes/vulnerability to be a compelling protagonist in a cinematic setting -Have demons -Set it on mars and and in hell -Do not try and apologise for the art style/content -Spend money on it -Make it rowdy
You can even make it with a woman. Just follow the DOOM 2 RPG formula: one fast female OC, an UAC nerd, and our favorite demon remover. Then, I don't know, make it about how the chick and the nerd try to survive while our favorite slayer destroy demon after demon. And then in the climax they team up to destroy the icon of sin (or cyberdemon because it was a demon virus on that game). The epilogue can be the OC shutting up about feminism understanding that there are worst things to be worried about, the nerd holding the cube of souls, refusing to give it to the UAC and killing everyone who tries to take it away from him, and Doomguy staying in Hell killing demons. You can even ending with him screaming "Come on! Bring it on! Rip and Tear! UNTIL IS DONE!!!", and staying in pose looking like the OG Doom game.
Another way to get a good doom movie would be animation. Something in the style of DC's animated movies. Just focus on doomguy the whole time and get good artists. A movie or web series would do, just depending on how much of the games you can well represent in the respective time frames

Yea it was good because it understood what it wanted to be, alongside understanding the audience who were watching it. I’m glad the people making it understood what they were doing and how the consumer is involved, instead of giving into the “blame the consumer” spiel.
You saw the name Joan Dark and immediately got the reference to "Joan of Ark". While I saw Joanna Dark... the protagonist for the N64 shooter "Perfect Dark". Eh, so I'm not as cultured as I should be.
I saw the character Joan of Arc from Clone High, who in one episode posed as a boy named "John Dark," punning on her actual French name "Jeanne D'Arc" which is pronounced mostly the same way.
a Doom movie could be good if its made as an exercise in style with a barebones plot, it could be practically a videoclip with no dialogues, but like you said it has to be like Hardcore Henry/Hotel Inferno, it has to be first person all the time, it could actually work they just have put zero thought in it in both movies

I'd love an Doom movie that is just Doom 3 but Diehard. My idea is where It follows an Security Cadet at an Research Station located on an floating Rock after an failed Teleport experiment to another dimension, that releases Hell on the Station. The protagonist constantly is like "My god, what am I doing?" and reacts to the Demons realistically, where he's having an complete Fight or Flight in the beginning but after he kills one, he's in full Survival mode after he realizes they can be killed, and comes across different survivors and enemies as he traverses the station to shut the portal down, it's an mix of Action and Horror as he teams with some survivors to save the station. That would be 20 times better then what this even is.

I used to be passionately angry about this for the poor work and real lack of understanding what is Doom. But Civvie’s calm voice through this breaking in down along with forgetting the movie to begin with, have brought it to a disappointing indifference.
Unfortunately I couldn't see it that way. This movie is still hot garbage, making the 2004 film look infinitely better by comparison. Civvie praising the blatantly rubber chainsaw scene was the final straw for me.
@@doomjoltfromflordia4069 Event Horizon is a horror movie, it's about a spaceship that passed through hell and the crew of a separate ship goes to figure out what happened. Like Doom, it's about space and hell and in a way it's a better Doom movie than this fucking garbage.
This makes me think of a comment I saw in another video about this movie that actually has an effective concept for a Doom movie Like, the Slayer appears, but as a side character with a big presence, ripping and tearing through the forces of Hell with his arsenal and superhuman mobility, and the main guys being a stranded team of UAC scientists thought to be dead, with the Slayer sometimes getting them out of a pinch, like opening a sealed door, or when a horde of demons gets too tight, to the point that he has to help the team by Berserk-ing through it all, for example.
Bitchute squad reporting - already watched it there, will watch here. Also, I must say, this meme from Kreed grew on me, and now I welcome it in any context possible - it fits fantastically when it’s appropriate contextually.
Watch Mandy from 2018. It's the closest thing to a good Doom movie we've ever gotten/will ever get. It's about Nicolas Cage fighting demons and cultists, and it's got some of the best gore scenes since Evil Dead.
i'm left wondering if someone, somewhere, some weird mad film editing genius could take both Doom movies and splice them into something even remotely interesting.
On one hand, I kinda doubt the people behind this know what a Perfect Dark is. On the other, well, our "Doomgal" has basically nothing to do with Jeanne d'Arc.
I watched Doom Annihilation and Annihilation back to back. One gave me existential dread for the future and made me ponder what it meant to be a human and whether who we are now is a consistent thing or if all people are transient. The other had a scary bear in it.

13:40 - those ominous symbols on the teleporter didn't make any reference to say the same as the blood symbols after the attack so they didn't bother because they think is no big deal - just related about teleportation but not about "reclaim what is ours"
The Doom fps scene is still one of my favorites, doesn't redeem that movie but its cool As for this movie eh... it exists. Also couldn't Joan Dark be a reference to Joanna Dark from Perfect dark, surely not

Also, I feel whether recursive references like "Joan Dark>Joanna Dark>Joan of Arc" are actually alluding to the original material is... debatable? Like Final Fantasy has a recurring thing where pairs of characters are named Biggs and Wedge, at what point do you draw the line between "small Star Wars reference" and "started as a Star Wars reference but is more of a generic series tradition now"? EDIT: Also if someone makes a joke about the "rosebud" money cheat in The Sims, can one really say that they're making a Citizen Kane reference?
I just feel that DOOM could never work as a traditional movie that is driven by character narrative. It could work as more of a spectacle driven movie like Hardcore Henry, but actually doing that well is out of the scope of most directors that would actually be assigned to, or willing to take on, the project. An animated Doom Slayer movie a bit like those we saw in the Halo franchise could also be brilliant as that could really show off the combat in a way live-action just can't do. Let's hope they don't decide to go after the other silent protagonists next and decide to make a HL movie. That being said Keanu Reeves would probably make a good Gordon Freeman if you stuck some glasses and a pimped-out orange jumpsuit on him.
The Hardcore Henry could certainly work for a balls to the wall action movie, even more so when the DOOM 2016 live action trailer released it had all the violence and raw power you'd expect from the Doomguy. So I think it could work, but it'd have to be VERY focused on what DOOM is good at, and that's ultra-violence with a bit of flair to it.
Even films that approach the zenith of meaningless, epic action still have some characterisation to make them tick. I gave up on Hardcore Henry. The reason that 5-10 minute fan films or cinematics tend to get loaded with "better than X movie/game" comments is because wordless or barely characterised/plotted boom-pow works for short spans, but not for 90+ minutes. Not that I can think of. That awesome live action Doom 2016 trailer worked because it was lean and great. Could you really watch 2 hours without getting a bit bored?
@@mrbigglezworth42 Exactly, and I just don't see any large studio picking that up due to rating concerns, the lack of general appeal, and the budget required because of all the SFX, set pieces, and costume design that would be needed. Movie producers and large studios don't care about actually catering to what we, as consumers, want, they only care about making the most generally appealing product that they can sell to the most amount of people. Hence the "gentrification" of many genres as executive's seek to grind down the aspects of a movie that might not appeal to literally everyone, even though those aspects are what draw many of us in. A DOOM movie wouldn't be picked up by any studio with the capital to make it awesome, because not only would they be worried about not making that money back, but also scared of any "controversy" such a violence focused film might generate. I did enjoy the first Doom movie, and I have a place in my heart for cheesy action flicks, but I'd rather them just leave the franchise alone at this point. The games are enough for me.
Eight minutes in, I decided to pause and go rent the movie. 28 minutes in I went ”Yeah, no - this is a waste of my time” and came back to watch Civvie’s take on it.
